Posted on

Photograph of a motoryacht running. The boat is solid white with black windows. There is a jet ski running next to it. Both are headed to the right side of the photo.

Everything went well onboard motor yacht TUONO (74′ Sunseeker motoryacht available for Florida yacht charters). Our clients went in the water and rode waverunners. The crew was great. Thanks for everything!

HEMISPHERE SAILBOAT

Sail yacht HEMISPHERE  is one of the world’s newest and largest yachts.

WORLD’S LARGEST CATAMARAN

She is 145 feet long.  Sailing yacht Hemisphere qualifies as the world’s largest luxury sailing catamaran. Hemisphere was built in the UK by the Pendennis Shipyard.  This multihull features the naval architecture of Van Peteghem Lauriot Prévost (VPLP).  They are additionally the designers of the 33rd America’s Cup winning multihull.

Michael Leach Design studios handled the interior. Insiders report an innovative design.  Her creation blends speed and stability with space and contemporary style.

EXTERIOR AND WATERTOYS

Decks are uncluttered.  Visible deck hardware has been minimized.  The 190 foot tall mast soars free of spreaders.  All lines are concealed internally. Tenders are stowed out of sight.  The port transom houses a full watersports complement.  The scuba dive locker is served by a large hydraulic swim platform.

Would You Charter a Yacht in the Devil’s Triangle?

Posted on

Photograph of a beautiful sunset in the background with a UFO in the foreground of the photo. The craft is on the right side of the photo. Close up.

CURIOUS?

It’s funny how superstitions and “tales of the unknown” tend to quietly creep into our lives and psyches.

You are going along just fine, oblivious to things that others consider eerie or supernatural.  Suddenly, somebody (or something) plants a seed in your mind, and whammo – you are throwing salt over your shoulder for good luck, or giving a wide berth to the neighbors’ black cat sitting in your driveway!

DEVIL’S TRIANGLE

Case in Point – planning a Bahama yacht charter vacation, or as I now refer to it: chartering a yacht in the Devil’s Triangle.  Queue the creepy music and fog…

I was recently assisting a client in organizing a Lurssen yacht charter on motoryacht SOLEMATES. The gentleman wanted to take his family for a week-long adventure in the Bahamas.  We were chatting on the phone when I heard his teenage son in the background say,

Dude, I’m not down with a week in the Devil’s Triangle.  Boats go there and people get abducted by aliens and disappear forever!

The boys’ father said,  “Jeremy, you’re watching too much cable TV.  A little less Ghost Hunters and a little more studying…”

CREDENCE TO SUPERSTITIONS?

I remember chuckling to myself, but when I hung up the phone, I began to wonder… is there any credence to this kid’s apprehension?

WHERE IS THE DEVIL’S TRIANGLE

The Devil’s Triangle is also known as the Bermuda Triangle, an area of the Atlantic Ocean bounded by Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and a point between Miami and Melbourne, Florida, in which numerous vessels and aircraft are said to have mysteriously disappeared.

Map of the Bermuda Triangle

FAMOUS DISAPPEARANCES

The most famous disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle include the USS Cyclops ship lost in March, 1918. In addition, a U.S. Navy aircraft squadron, Flight 19,  is said to have vanished in a green fog in December, 1945.

BOOKS

Scores of books have been written about the mystery of the triangle, and dozens of websites offer conjecture on who or what is responsible.  Theories abound – from the occult to extraterrestrials.

WEBSITE ACCOUNTS

Some sites offer a detailed list of planes, ships, and yachts that have vanished.  It does make you wonder – how could so many boats and planes simply disappear?

DEBUNKED MYSTERIES

Of course, many other books and websites detail how scientists and researchers have debunked the mysteries over the years.  It seems simple explanations, like tropical storms and pilot error, are the probable culprits for the disappearances.

US NAVY and LLOYD’S OF LONDON

With science on their side, the U.S. Navy and the yachting industry pay little heed to the myths and legends. Lloyd’s of London, for example, the world’s leading market for specialized insurance, does not charge higher premiums for luxury mega yacht charter vessels transiting this heavily traveled area.

MAKES ME THINK

Still, I can’t get the silly notion of aliens in the Bahamas out of my head.  Not Cuban rafters, but little green aliens with antennas on their heads and ray guns in their hands.

I’m with Jeremy, dude – I’m not “down” with the Devil’s Triangle.

Yacht Focus on Wellness Travel

Posted on

WELLNESS

The age of wellness is upon us.  Everywhere you turn, people seek to boost their wellness and make healthy living a priority in both daily life and travel.

YACHTS AND HEALTH

Taking a queue from this growing trend, the newest and largest yachts for charter are being designed and outfitted to accommodate adventurous, wellness-oriented travelers.

WELLNESS TRENDS ON BOATS

Wellness trends on superyachts include the latest gym equipment, fully-staffed mini-spas, and healthier menu options.  The yachts and the overall charter experience are moving beyond the traditional yachting, for example, spa experiences throughout.

There is more onboard space for wellness. For instance, fitness areas and private deck space for meditation is typical now.  Galleys are stocked with fresh, all-natural foods.  Chefs accommodate foodies and draft more heart-healthy menus.

COMPANY PRESIDENT COMMENTS

“The market has redefined the charter experience,” says Jana Sheeder, President of superyacht rental syndicate 1-800 Yacht Charters and SailAway Yacht Charters.  “We’re witnessing a renaissance – a shift from the traditional cruise mentality to a sea-based adventure that nurtures the body and feeds the soul.”

TYPICAL YACHTS IN PAST

For years, the typical Caribbean yacht charter vacation focused on extremes, if not downright decadence.  Yachts would burn fuel at dizzying rates to motor from one tropical island to the next, and guests would feast on lavish meals and exotic fare.

Now, the modern charter guest seeks to balance a respect for eco-sensitive travel with a desire to focus on wellness and health.

Sheeder is keenly aware of the shift in priorities.

“The opportunity to truly relax and focus on mind, body, and soul is paramount to the modern charter customer,” she says.

CHEFS

Onboard the superyachts, chefs have revised their cooking styles and their menus. They now incorporate more organic foods, along with reduced sodium and lower sugar alternatives, to cater to the growing demand by charter guests for health-conscious meals.

ENTERTAINMENT

The nature of onboard entertainment is evolving as well.  Crews report guests spend less time watching TV and movies, and more time pursuing wellness activities.  Charter brokers report more customers now inquire about the availability of exercise equipment and spa services.

HEALTHY ACTIVITIES

New yachts are now built with large gymnasiums, as well as spa amenities and on some  vessels, beauty salons.  Older yachts are converting some cabins from sleeping quarters into workout areas or meditation rooms.

LADY BRITT SUPERYACHT

A shining example of this new commitment to wellness is the brand new Feadship yacht charter motor yacht LADY BRITT.  With accommodations for 12 guests, the 208 foot vessel exudes the luxury, style, and sophistication commonplace on modern yachts.  What stands out, however, is the onboard equipment and amenities dedicated to wellness.

HEALTHY ROOMS

The yacht features a wellness spa (offering Elemis massage, beauty and hair treatments), a fully-equipped gymnasium (with Technogym equipment), an outdoor cinema, and an authentic Finnish sauna with a private meditation deck and access to the water.
