UNDERWATER FLYER

Yacht charter guests — keep an eye out for a new watertoy that’s sure to be seen on luxury yacht charter vessels in the future.   Have you always wanted to ride on the back of a sea turtle?  Do you dream of skindiving and holding onto a manta ray who glides you through the water?   As exciting and dreamy as those images seem, they equate to harrassing marine life.  Flying underwater, then, has to be done without marine creatures.  The solution?  Norwegian inventor Simon Sivertsen’s Subwing!

 

I BELIEVE I CAN FLY

Designed with two hydrodynamic wings that join in the center with a swivel made of rubber and steel, the Subwing’s “arms” pivot independently of one another.  “Flyers” can ride the Subwing by holding onto rubber grips at the front of the wings or by grasping a rubber grab loop in the rear. Heavy-duty Dyneema fiber ropes attached to the top surface of both wings connect to your yacht charter tender tow rope.

 

HOW TO STEER THE SUBWING

Ready, set, FLY!  Riders can steer the Subwing up, down, left, or right, and they can perform spins, simply by angling or twisting the wings.  The Subwing is only recommended for use by skin divers (without scuba tanks). This is because sudden depth changes and compressed air don’t mix. Scuba tanks are also heavy and create a lot of drag for the tow boat.  Boats towing “subwingers” only travel at two knots.

The Subwing is available in three versions. The fiberglass model sells for US $700, the carbon fiber matte model sells for $850, and the carbon gloss model will set you back $895.

New England Yacht Season Tall Ship Parade

Star-Spangled Sailabration

TALL SHIP PARADE AND BLUE ANGELS

An international parade of more than 40 tall ships and naval vessels unite. They kick off this summer’s highly-anticipated New England yacht charter season.  It is dubbed the Star-Spangled Sailabration.  Happening June 13-19, the ships will sail into Baltimore. They do this for the national launch of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812.  It also includes celebration of the writing of the Star-Spangled Banner.

STAR-SPANGLED SAILABRATION

The Star-Spangled Sailabration features free tours of ships and other things. For instance, waterside festivities, an air show featuring the Navy’s Blue Angels, and world-premiere of  the “Overture for 2012.”  The song is composed by Philip Glass. Each summer, the number one global destination for luxury sailing charter yachts is New England.  Many private charteryachts are in the Baltimore area for the Star-Spangled Sailabration, also. This is before they move on to their bases of operation. They venture to locations such as Newport Rhode Island, Boston Massachusetts, and the Hamptons.

Our Best Vacation Ever! Yacht Charter Reviews

Catamaran Sailboat Yacht Charter Boat Dreaming On

April 2012:

We’re just back from a week on board sail catamaran DREAMING ON, sailing the BVIs in the capable hands of our wonderful crew, Geoff and Iza. We were also vacationing with another couple…and we all agreed that the whole experience exceeded our expectations by far, to the extent that we have already booked again for next year!

This is all down to Geoff and Iza who are a very special and generous couple – it was like sailing with good friends – the chemistry was perfect and we just hit it off.

SHE CONTINUES HER REVIEW…

They welcomed us on board their beautiful home and anticipated our every need. Iza is an amazing cook – the food (presentation, quality and variety) is better than you get in most good restaurants and all prepared in a galley kitchen – the sushi in particular was unbelievable! And Geoff…well, in our opinion he makes a better Painkiller than the Soggy Dollar (as well as being a great Captain).

They had arranged an itinerary for us (but it was flexible) and we went to different, islands and/or bays every day. For instance, a sail to Anegada, followed by a fabulous lobster dinner at the Reef Hotel – highly recommend this!

They took us to all their favorite spots in the BVIs and we couldn’t get enough of the clear blue waters and white sandy beaches – plenty of snorkeling, kayaking and paddle boarding to be had. In fact, we didn’t really have enough time just to hang out in one place for a day or go tubing or water-skiing, which is why we are returning next year. Now we know all the best spots and where we’d like to go back to and spend more time.

(Catamaran DREAMING ON) is comfortable and has plenty of space, both out the front on the ‘trampolines’ and the shady area at the back by the cockpit where we enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Overall, for anyone out there considering a luxury yacht charter, I would highly recommend, without hesitation, DREAMING ON, and Geoff and Iza – it will be one of the (if not THE) best vacations of your life! We certainly can’t wait to get back on board next year…..

Underwater Lighting Glows Beneath Yachts

WHAT IS IT ABOUT LIGHTING?

First the incandescent light bulb, then CFLs, and now LED lighting.  With homes, cars, and businesses on the path to energy conservation, we knew it wouldn’t be long before the yachting industry was in step with the mainstream. 

AMBIENT LIGHTS ON YACHTS

And with the flair that defines today’s modern vessels, the yacht industry has put its signature stamp of style on the use of colored ambient lighting – underwater lights.  Green yachting, James Bond gadget style.

MARINAS GLOW…

Superyacht marinas around the world are now bathed in a deep blue hue at night. Many megayachts have installed rows of bright underwater lights in their hulls. 

 

LADY PETRA

A week ago, the newest launch at Heesen Yachts, 47 meter Heesen yacht LADY PETRA was presented to her new owners and guests at a night-time ceremony – with a full array of underwater lights reflecting off the yacht’s gleaming white hull.  

TIARA

Even a few vessels designed for sail boat charters have installed lights below the waterline. The 178-foot Alloy sail yacht TIARA recently installed lights. Yacht TIARA is a certified PADI scuba center, which means charter clients can now enjoy night dives with dramatic underwater illumination.

World’s Most Expensive Superyacht

TYPICAL YACHT IN MONTE CARLO?

We receive numerous inquires each summer for a yacht in Monte Carlo.  Somehow, we don’t think this is what the typical luxury yacht charter customer has in mind.: 
Plans are underway to build the world’s first $1 billion dollar yacht.

YACHT ISLAND DESIGN

British-based architects Yacht Island Design have come up with the concept of a James Bond-esque yacht that looks like a small city.  Motor yacht STREETS of MONACO will be a $1.1 billion project, built to resemble Monte Carlo, the municipality within the principality of Monaco, and known for its casino, luxury resorts, and annual Formula 1 Grand Prix race.

LAYOUT AND FEATURES

The +500 foot yacht will feature four levels and boast such items as a casino, go-kart circuit, tennis courts, and multiple pools with swim-up Jacuzzi bars. Plans also include a massive dining room with underwater views.  The vessel will not have traditional decks. Plans include buildings, including a replica of Monaco’s famed Hotel de Paris.

INTERIOR

Upper and lower living areas will be connected via a grand atrium. Seven guest suites, a library, and cinema will be situated in the lower level.   The owner’s suite, a three-story, 4,800 square-foot area, and an entertainment salon will make up the upper level.
“It is basically a floating city,” according to company director Rob McPherson. “The design theme called for a unique yacht that reflected the style and sophistication of the principality.”

Yacht AZZAM – World’s Largest Superyacht

1-800 YACHT CHARTERS PRESENTS

We present a glimpse of the world’s largest yacht, yacht Azzam, a Lurssen motoryacht that is presumably around 180 meters long.
She is a highly-secretive build in Bremen, Germany, and judging by the underwater body, expect the world’s largest yacht to be very fast for her immense size.

MEANING OF THE YACHT NAME, AZZAM

As for the vessel’s name, it may be motor yacht AZZAM, which means “very determined” or “resolute” in Arabic.

YACHT SIZE

How large is she?  Compare her size to motor yacht ECLIPSE, currently the largest yacht in the world, which is 534 feet 8 inches.
Motoryacht Azzam is destined for private use and will not be available for Mediterranean yacht charter use anytime soon, but no matter. We can dream BIG!
