Waterproof Phone Before Yacht Charter

Posted on

It’s amazing how many cellphones meet their demise during yachting holidays. Hardly a week goes by that a charter client doesn’t report someone in their travel party dropped their phone in the water during their time at sea.
The cellphone industry reports more phones are irreparably damaged by exposure to water and moisture than from any other cause.
Thus, all of us who spend time on boats have a vested interest in waterproof phones.
Photograph of a cellphone that has just fallen into the ocean. There is a splash wave on the right side of it. It is a white phone with apps visible on the front. There is an island in the background of the photo..

Waterproof your phone before yacht charter

In the past, the only way to protect your phone during a luxury yacht charter vacation was to buy a bulky, clunky watertight case – which just about doubled the size of any hand-held device.
Fortunately two companies, HzO in Utah and Liquipel in California, have developed invisible coatings that can make your phone resistant to spills and dunks.
Both companies use similar application processes to bond water-repelling nano-polymers to phones.  They place the phones inside a sealed chamber, suck the air out, and inject a gas. The gas vapor  includes a protective coating that settles on the phone and forms an invisible water barrier so thin it is just one thousandth the thickness of a human hair.
HzO claims their coating will protect a phone from being underwater for more than four hours…
Both companies offer coating protection for under $70.  This is a reasonable investment to consider before your next crewed catamaran yacht charter vacation!

Yacht Charter: How Do You Pronounce

Posted on

Black silhouette drawing of a man with bearded chin. He is facing the right side of the screen. His head is white, and it is filled with red letters, all jumbled. He is speaking, and letters are coming out of his mouth in jumbled form. They are funneling from his brain down to his mouth and out of it.

How do you pronounce…?

PRONUNCIATION OF DESTINATION NAMES

Prospective luxury yacht charter clients call to discuss possible itineraries for their vacations.  They ask us how to pronounce the names.  It’s understandable, as many destinations, especially in the Caribbean, trace their names and culture back hundreds of years.  The names come from European explorers and Conquistadors of the destinations, and the words have special meanings.

WHERE AM I GOING?

So you go to the Mediterranean, yet you question how to say the names of the cities there.   No worries. We clarify it all for you.

YACHT CHARTER DESTINATIONS WITH CHALLENGING NAMES

Here’s a short list of popular Caribbean and Mediterranean yacht charter destinations.  To the right of those names is their correct American English pronunciation.

  • Cannes (France) – “CAN.”   Rhymes with MAN.  The “s” is silent.   Cannes does NOT  rhyme with “John” or “Lawn.”
  • Ibiza (Balearic Islands, Spain) –  “ee-BEE-za

  • Antigua (Caribbean) – “an-TEE-ga”

  • Nevis (Caribbean) –  “NEE-vis”

  • Cay (as in, Cat Cay and Green Turtle Cay in the Bahamas) – “key”

  • Marseilles (Mediterranean) – “mar-SAY
  • Versailles (Mediterranean) – “ver-SIGH

SUGGESTIONS, PLEASE!

In conclusion, can you think of any unique charter destinations with hard-to-pronounce names?  For instance, Basse-Terre in the Caribbean or the Dodacanese islands in Greece?

Please contact us at https://www.1800yachtcharters.com/book-now-contact-us/ .  Let us know other names that you suggest that we clarify for yacht charter readers!  Thank you!  Danke!  Gracie!  Merci!
