90M motoryacht NERO and other luxury yacht charter vessels lauded for green practices

THE AWARD

The Charter Yacht Brokers Association is CYBA.  They announce 2017 winners of their campaign.  This is the annual “Going Green To Save The Blue” cause.  The crew onboard superyacht NERO places in the “Designer Water” contest.  The contest recognizes crews of luxury yacht charter vessels.  This award goes to crews acknowledging their “yacht-made” water. This is an effort to reduce.  Disposable plastic water bottle use on yachts must decrease.

three round glasses containing water infused with strawberries blueberries pomegranate orange cucumber

THE MESSAGE

Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters and a CYBA member, explains the program. The underlying message is unquestionably urgent

“Importantly, the campaign is designed to encourage yacht owners and crews to reduce, and eventually forego, the use of plastic water bottles by both the crews and the onboard luxury yacht charter guests.  The goal is to raise awareness as to the massive volume of water bottles that are consumed during charters, and the impact disposable plastic has in our landfills and more importantly, our oceans.”

THE WINNERS

The “Designer Water” contest is annual.  It occurs at the opening of the Caribbean yacht charter winter/spring season.  At this time, the season sees more than a dozen private yacht charter vessels.  In addition, crews showcase their “flavored” waters.  Specifically, the waters generate from onboard watermakers that convert seawater into clean, safe drinking water.

This year’s winners are  first, 111 foot sailing yacht REE for Hibiscus Martini Water.  Second, 183 foot sailing yacht ROSEHEARTY wins for Moranga-infused Detoxifying Water.  Third, 265 foot mega yacht NERO wins for Coriander and Passionfruit Water.

THE PROGRAM

It should be noted that the CYBA campaign, “Going Green To Save The Blue,” strategizes dually .  It encourages yacht owners and crews to offer eco-friendly options.  Private yacht charter guests participate in this sustainable initiative.  Hopefully, the guests return home with a clearer understanding of the impact of plastic pollution. In addition, how they can incorporate simple changes in their daily lives.  They can make a difference in safeguarding our environment for future generations.

“The ‘Going Green’ campaign highlights the numerous opportunities and options available to our private yacht charter clients, yacht owners, and crews – from avoiding plastic water bottles, to using green cleaning products, reef-friendly sunscreens, and solar panels for energy,” says Sheeder. “We congratulate motor yacht NERO and her owner and crew and all of the other Caribbean yacht charter teams for their commitment to the long-term health of our oceans and the marine environment.”

Best Champagne? The Ultimate Luxury Yacht Charter Bubbly

Posted on

three people sitting in a spa on the deck of a yacht - full champagne glasses in foreground of photo

WHY CHAMPAGNE?

Is there anything that speaks to the joy of “la bonne vie”  as perfectly as enjoying a glass of champagne while onboard a yacht at sea? Luxury yacht charter Maven and President of 1-800 Yacht Charters, Jana Sheeder, agrees.

Time aboard a luxury yacht charter vessel is the perfect platform to reconnect with friends and family – and champagne is often the tonic of this celebratory time together.

As crews begin to prepare their superyachts for the upcoming New Year’s eve yacht parties in St Barts, our charter advisers at 1-800 Yacht Charters take a look at the 3 trendiest premium champagne choices for Caribbean yacht charter clients this winter:

 THE HOTTEST CHOICES

  • Dom Pérignon, Rosé “P2” – 1996

It’s hard to imagine a name a name more synonymous with premium champagne.  Go to just about any nightclub, and you’ll find a millennial trying to impress by ordering a bottle of “Dom.”

It is a simple, balanced champagne with a pleasant aroma.  Hints of a Cognac-like richness abound. A 2006 vintage 750ml bottle is approximately $150.

However, when it comes to luxury yacht charter guests, the most sought after Dom is the 1996 Rosé “P2.”  The P2 moniker refers to the age of the vintage, which the wine makers at Dom refer to as “Plénitudes.” They describe the maturation process as, “…not in a simple linear trajectory, but in successive leaps into new expression, each of which are called Plénitudes. In the long journey of elaboration, the wine goes through this metamorphosis, a transformation. Each Plénitude contributes to Dom Pérignon’s singularity. In the darkness of the cellars, from one Plénitude to the next, Dom Pérignon will grow and blossom, transmuting time into energy.”

A 750ml bottle of the 1996 Rosé “P2” is approximately $795.

A BIT OF TRIVIA

A FUN SIDE NOTE:   Why do we call it a “toast?”  Thanks to Wikipedia, “According to other stories, the word toast became associated with the custom in the 17th century, based on a custom of flavoring drinks with spiced toast. The word originally referred to the lady in whose honor the drink was proposed, her name being seen as figuratively flavoring the drink.

  • Louis Roederer, Cristal – 2009

On a nearly equal plane in terms of popularity with Dom Pérignon, Cristal (pronounced “chrisTALL”) has been a favorite among yachting enthusiasts for many years. American wine critic Robert M. Parker Jr’s website gives this vintage a score of 94-96 and describes it as one that, “…literally shimmers on the palate, showing great depth and purity in its sumptuous layers of fruit. It is a magnificent wine endowed with superb length and exceptional overall balance. The 2009 Cristal is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. The percentage of wine aged in oak is 15%, which is down slightly from previous vintages.”

A 750ml bottle of the 2009 Louis Roederer, Cristal is approximately $250.

  • Moët Ice Imperial

It seems every food and beverage preference sheet submitted by clients prior to their winter St. Barts yacht charter vacation has listed Moët Ice as a “must-have” item.

Launched in early 2016 as a summer indulgence, the popularity has not waned.  So what makes this champagne so unique?  The answer is “ICE.”   This champagne was designed to be served with ice, and that was a real innovation in the world of sommeliers. Ice has a rich fruity taste, perfect for warm weather winter charter destinations such as the Caribbean and the Bahamas.  Moet Ice Imperial champagne is a special blend consisting mainly of Pinot Noir (40-50%), Pinot Meunier (30-40%), and Chardonnay (10-20%). It is suggested to be served with three ice cubes in tall glasses of Cabernet, and can be mixed with other refreshing ingredients such as mint leaves, lemon peel, cucumber, or cardamom seeds – to enhance the intensity of flavor, and the icy freshness.  A perfect tropical indulgence.

A 750ml bottle of Moët Ice Imperial is approximately $60

AND THE WINNER IS…

There IS no winner!  If you feel tricked, we’re sorry.  Before you throw your champagne flute in our direction, please let us explain:

One of the great benefits of The Superyacht Experience is the ability to customize every aspect of your luxury yacht charter vacation.  For instance, where you go, to what you do for rest and recreation. Of course, this includes your preferences for foods and beverages as well.

Blazing Fast Tender Added to Yacht Double Down Watertoy Inventory

Posted on

WHAT’S NEW ON DOUBLE DOWN

Our friend, James, manager of motor yacht DOUBLE DOWN, dropped us an email last week.  He knows we are big fans of this 65 meter Codecasa.  James seemed excited to share the news about the superyacht and her newest watertoy.

We were certainly intrigued.  A multi-repeat client of ours enjoyed 10 days exploring Greece onboard this spectacular yacht.  He raved about the vessel’s condition, amenities, and the crew’s outstanding silver-service.

“DOUBLE DOWN has a magnificent new towed tender for the Mediterranean season – a 42ft (12.8m) MTI with centre console and 4 x 300 HP engines,” wrote James.

“Wow!” we emailed in response. “What year and what does she look like?”

James replied, “She is in fact a 2015. Silver with black highlights on the hull. Black Mercury outboards. White radar dome is now painted grey.”

center console tender with black and silver hull racing across the ocean

James was correct – we ARE excited!   Performance-style tenders have replaced on-deck Jacuzzi tubs as the “must-have” amenity for many of our private luxury yacht charter clients.   The days of hopping in the “dinghy” are long gone.  As one of our clients explained to us, “I don’t pull up with my wife to Joe’s Stone Crab restaurant on South Beach in a Kia, so why would I come ashore in St. Tropez in an inflatable RIB tender?”

The MTI V-42 center console tender added to the stable of watertoys onboard Codecasa motor yacht DOUBLE DOWN is simply a beast.  With quad 300hp power, this 42 ft tender can cruise at 40mph, and hit top speeds in excess of 70mph. The tender’s unique hull design yields straight, stable handling at all speeds.

COMPANY PRESIDENT RESPONDS

Jana Sheeder, our company President, explains why this matters:

“A fast tender is an important component of a private yacht charter vacation, especially in remote areas, like the Ionian islands of Greece. If the seas get rough while taking charter guests sightseeing, the MTI V-42 design keeps the bow high in both head and following seas, and the tender can easily knock down big swells.  In simple terms, this means a dry ride in extreme conditions.”

Indeed ride and performance are important, but so are luxurious amenities and comfort.  The seats are quite comfy for long-range cruising with the double-wide forward lounge the most comfortable.  Speakers seem to be everywhere on this tender, so listening to your favorite tunes is a breeze, even with the engines at full throttle.

CURRENT YACHT PLANS

Captain Charles and his crew of 17 are currently enjoying yacht DOUBLE DOWN in the summer Monaco yacht charter season.  To kick off the season, the yacht secured a berth in Monaco at the Monaco Yacht Club for client who were interested in a Monaco Grand Prix yacht charter.  They are on the ball! With 8 large guest staterooms, this 65 meter superyacht boasts excellent flexibility for guest sleeping arrangements.

Buon appetito – San Lorenzo Yacht TAKARA Adds New Chef to Crew

Posted on

THE NEWS

Bon appetit!  Motoryacht TAKARA will begin the 2017 Balearic Island yacht charter season with a new chef in the galley.

3 Chefs cutting into 2 wheels of cheese

“Available in the Balearic Islands, M/Y TAKARA begins (the) 2017 season with a new super experienced Chef in her crew,”
reports the yacht’s manager.  “Chef Daniel Wilbor begins a new professional venture on board…With over 10 years of experience  in the yachting industry he has already worked as a chef in 11 different yachts and has sailed all across the Atlantic Ocean! Born in Great Britain, he describes himself as a creative, competent and talented cooker with an special interest in Thai cuisine.”

She then gave us more information about him:  “He also has a wide repertoire and can produce excellent meals from Mediterranean to Japanese, Indian and Asian Fusion, or North American and English dishes, all to a very high standard. His style is fresh and innovative combining a respect for quality products and a good arsenal of both classical and modernist cooking techniques.”

Delicious, well-plated meals are integral to the overall Superyacht Experience, and it’s always good news when a chef like Daniel joins a professional superyacht team.

profile of motoryacht TAKARA

THE YACHT

The San Lorenzo 126 yacht TAKARA is one of our newest additions to the Ibiza yacht charter fleet. This is a brand new, 2016 model, 38 meters in length, with comfortable accommodations for 12 guests in 5 staterooms (1 Master, 1 VIP, 1 Double and 2 Twins – with a Pullman berth in each)

Chef Wilbor is part of a 6 person crew.

IMPORTANT YACHTING INFORMATION TO KNOW

Motoryacht TAKARA is fully licensed to charter in Spain.  This is extremely important and often overlooked by charter brokers and charterers.  Without this special registration, a yacht cannot begin and end a charter in Spanish waters;  furthermore, local Spanish workers like massage therapists, are precluded from coming aboard and providing services for the charter guests.  Without having a Spanish yacht charter license, a superyacht needs to begin and end the charter in a remote location, like France, which adds wasted time and increased fuel costs to the overall charter.  That is not The Superyacht Experience™ we envision for our clients!

THE TOYS

  • Castoldi 4.87 meter main tender
  • Zodiac 4 meter second tender
  • 4 complete SCUBA diving sets (for certified divers only)
  • Wakeboard …in addition,
  • Water skis for kids and adults
  • Donut Towable Watertoy
  • Aquapark
  • 2  Stand Up Paddleboards SUP’s …lastly,
  • Snorkeling gear

THE RATES

Rest of the year = 21.500€ per day — 130.000€ per week + 21% VAT

(The price includes a berth in Palma Mallorca in the summer season)

CURRENT BOOKINGS

In conclusion, come experience the talented menus of newly-welcomed Chef Daniel Wilbor onboard yacht TAKARA this summer.  Plan a private luxury yacht charter in the Balearic Islands of Spain.  Text “TAKARA” to 305-720-7245 for more information or complete our online inquiry form at https://www.1800yachtcharters.com/book-now-contact-us/ , and we will contact you right away!

DEEP Discount Offered By Motor Yacht Seven Sins for Heesen Yacht Charter Vacation

Posted on

SEVEN SINS motoryacht in background and man waterskiing in front of it

What could be better than experiencing a Heesen yacht charter vacation in the warm waters of the Caribbean?  That’s easy:  experiencing a Heesen yacht charter vacation AND saving $50,000 to boot!

THE YACHT CHARTER DEAL

The charter manager for motor yacht SEVEN SINS just sent us an email inviting our clients to take advantage of a fantastic offer — a 40% price reduction on charters between January 5 and 28, 2017.

The published weekly rate for the 43.80m (143′ 8″) yacht is $125,000.  Shaving 40% from this price drops her weekly rate to $75,000 – a whopping savings of $50 LARGE!

THE HEESEN DIFFERENCE

Known for their unique speed among large superyachts, and their sleek exterior lines and modern interiors,  Heesen yacht charter vessels like motor yacht OCTOPUSSY (once the world’s fastest yacht), and Formula 1-inspired  superyacht AURELIA are among the most popular charter yachts for clients who appreciate the advantage of a swift vessel.  The advantage of a fast yacht means that charterers can enjoy more anchorages in a shorter amount of time, as compared to slower yachts.  Thus, a vessel like yacht SEVEN SINS can easily incorporate a charter from St. Martin and St Barts in the leeward islands of the Caribbean, with an outing to the Virgin Islands far to the north – all within a week’s time.

KEY YACHT FEATURES

SEVEN SINS offers accommodations for 10 guests in 5 staterooms.  Her manager put together a list of the yacht’s KEY FEATURES:

  • Extended by 2.5m – more deck space – refurbished owner’s cabin
  • Finalist at World Superyacht Awards in Refit category
  • Huge selection of water toys;  including floating trampoline and two SeaBobs
  • Upper deck dining for 12, and a table for 10 on the sun deck

VESSEL BOOKINGS

This stunning Heesen yacht charter vessel just completed a holiday charter in St Maarten on January 2nd.  Her calendar for the remainder of January is currently wide open.

YACHT CHARTER TESTIMONIAL

Before arriving in the Caribbean in December, the yacht spent the summer in French Polynesia.  Here’s a copy of a testimonial written by a client to the owner of yacht SEVEN SINS at the conclusion of his Heesen yacht charter superyacht experience in the Pacific:

“Dear (Owner’s name),

You don’t know me but, although we have never met, I think I know more than a little about you.

I just finished a charter of the M/Y Seven Sins in French Polynesia. And based on everything I saw and experienced on your boat and with your crew tells me that you not only have fine taste, but you have the same eye for quality and pay the same attention to detail that I try to do in my own projects.

I develop, own and operate retail and mixed use real estate projects in the Dallas, Texas area. And though it drives many around me crazy, I cant (sic) rest unless every element of my project is perfect…from the design, to the construction, to the finishes and materials, to the retail and restaurant tenants [and their own design and finishes!], and beyond.

TESTIMONIAL CONTINUES

On the Seven Sins, I saw that same unwillingness to accept ‘good enough’ or live with  things that work ‘pretty well.’  I’ll be honest…I looked hard to find flaws, problems or issues….not so that I could complain, but rather because I just can’t help myself! It’s who I am and it’s what I do! And I can tell from what I saw…it is who you are too!

I am pleased to report to you that every aspect of your vessel and your crew were, in a word, impeccable. Beyond all of my very high expectations in every way.

This email is simply to say ‘thank you’ for sharing your vessel and its able and charming crew with us. (and) I hope I’ll get the chance to spend some more time on her perhaps again in the South Pacific or perhaps in the Caribbean.

Thanks again,

(Client’s name)”

WOW!  What a fantastic testimonial from a client with discriminating tastes.

YACHT CHARTER OPPORTUNITY

Now, it’s your turn!  We often have yacht owners extend gracious discounts of 5% to 10%. On occasion we see deals of 15%.  Rarely do we have the opportunity to offer a superyacht, especially a Heesen yacht charter vessel, at a 40% discount.

JANUARY PRICE BREAK

January is a great time to explore the Caribbean – most of the tourists who came for year-end vacations have returned home.  Take advantage of quiet beaches, and anchorages where you’ll have room to enjoy the yacht’s watertoys.  Head ashore and meet the island people – friendly natives eager to share their culture and island lifestyle with you.

At full price, SEVEN SINS provides a great superyacht experience. At 40% off, this is a deal of a lifetime!

In conclusion, plan your own superyacht experience with us. We handle all details for you. Simply fill out our convenient online form at https://www.1800yachtcharters.com/book-now-contact-us/

Electrolysis – Good for People…Bad for Yachts

Posted on

FORT LAUDERDALE BOAT SHOW

The recent Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show arrives.  FLIBS again delights.

We had the pleasure of taking a few of our best private luxury yacht charter clients (and dear friends) for a stroll along the docks.  The couple had recently completed the construction of another home on a lot overlooking the water.  They wanted to purchase a boat for weekend family outings.

AVAILABLE SMALL YACHT OPTIONS FOR PURCHASE

We looked at the latest offerings from a few companies, for instance, Germany’s Fjord Yachts, the innovative expandable-deck boats by Italy’s Evo Yachts, and the trendy Holland-designed boats of VanDutch.

THAT’S IT!

The model that really caught the attention of our friends was a sleek, aluminum-hull day cruiser. This yacht is built by Vanquish Yachts.  It is the Vanquish VQ54.  The boat is simply stunning. There is no other way to describe it.

Vanquish54 yacht with white hull and red cushions

We stood on the dock discussing the boat and the available color options.  A passerby stopped and gazed at the boat.  “Beautiful,” he exclaimed. “Too bad it’s made out of aluminum – electrolysis is bad for boats.”

As the man walked away, our friends seemed a bit confused.  “What’s wrong with electrolysis?” asked the wife.  “It’s a great way to remove unwanted hair!”

“It’s a little different with boats,”  we said.  We then explained marine electrolysis, and the possible damage it can cause to a boat or yacht.

ELECTROLYSIS FOR HUMANS VS FOR BOATS

For humans, Medical Electrolysis is a clinical method of removing individual hairs from a person’s face or body. A device is used to destroy the growth center of hair with chemical or heat energy.

For boats, Marine Electrolysis is the result of potential current existing between two different objects. It is often caused by stray electrical current, and can be extremely destructive (causes corrosion) on boats made out of aluminum.

The results generated by medical electrolysis are all positive – people can remove unwanted hair, and it is a permanent fix.  With marine electrolysis, the results are not so good –  and if not caught quickly, the corrosive effects to an aluminum boat can cause great damage (holes, water leaking into the boat, etc.), and require expensive repairs.

corroded boat prop from marine electrolysys

WHAT ELSE IS BAD FOR BOATS?

Aluminum boats are also susceptible to another related culprit.  This culprit is Galvanic Corrosion.  This can occur when two dissimilar metals come into contact with an electrolyte and create a natural electrical current. Salt water can work as the perfect catalyst for galvanic corrosion.

GALVANIC CORROSION

Examples of galvanic corrosion include:

  • Using dissimilar metals on the vessel that come into contact with the salt water, like steel bolts or copper-based bottom paint on an aluminum hull.
  • Mixing different types of bottom paint on the same vessel.
  • Mooring boats with incompatible hull construction next to each other, such as a steel vessel moored immediately next to aluminum vessel.

QUESTION FROM BOAT BUYERS

Our experienced clients and friends then asked,

If aluminum has so many problems, why are expensive private luxury yacht charter vessels like Feadship and Heesen yachts built out of aluminum?”

The answer is simple.  Aluminum is light, but strong (think of airplanes).  Aluminum yachts can be built to any size versus yachts made from molds.  This allows great flexibility and customization that can’t be as easily achieve with fiberglass and other composites.  As to the corrosion issues, manufacturers can take preventative steps to reduce and even eliminate the threats of marine electrolysis.  Yachts are fitted with monitoring systems which constantly check for stray electrical current, as well as anti-corrosion anodes to negate electrical issues below the waterline.

DO I WANT ELECTROLYSIS NOW?

So, while someday you may want medical electrolysis to look and feel your best, you most definitely do not want marine electrolysis – ever…

Posted on

Don’t ask me to accurately describe the new exterior color scheme of super yacht POLAR STAR.  Either way, I just love it!

THE PAST

POLAR STAR yacht with original dark blue hull

For the past 12 seasons, the 63 meter yacht has traveled around the Mediterranean each summer. She travels to the Caribbean in the winter.  This pretty lady is instantly recognizable with her striking deep blue hull.  At this time, an extensive 6-month refit in Spain is complete.  It includes a 3 meter swim platform extension.  Lürssen private yacht charter vessel now turns her image on its head.

The blue color is no more!  She now wears a shade of white…or is it grey…?  Hmmm.

THE PRESENT

Immediately after the refit, Charl van Rooy, editor of Superyacht Times described the new exterior colors as, “…military light-grey.”  Fast-forward to this week, and van Rooy now says it’s a, “…light sand coloured paint scheme.”  In fairness to van Rooy, it’s not his fault – the colors are subtle and faint, and depending upon the sunlight, and refection of the water, it does appear to be different shades of off-white.

That, of course, is the point.  The owner was looking for something fresh – a new image for an iconic yacht that has visually dominated the Monaco yacht charter market for more than a decade.

If you’ll be in the South of France this summer, keep an eye open for Lürssen yacht POLAR STAR as she charts a new course and showcases her new colors!
