When your clients are accustomed to +70 meter superyachts for their private luxury yacht charter vacations, you should probably think twice about recommending a 40 meter yacht for their next getaway…
Unless that 40 meter vessel is motor yacht ‘H with Captain Phil Frost at the helm.
About three weeks ago, good friends of ours called. They were taking a short trip from their home in the states to visit their daughter who is spending a college semester in France. During the visit, they planned to catch the “On The Run II: Beyonce & Jay-Z” concert in Paris, then spend a few days exploring. They asked, “Since we’re not taking the whole family, is there a smaller, contemporary-designed yacht that you would recommend for a quick getaway in France?” Without hesitation, we said, “Yes, the best available option is the 42 meter Benetti motoryacht ‘H.”
Built in 2015, motor yacht ‘H is a shining example of the Italian builder’s Fast 140 series, with exterior styling by Stefano Righini, and interiors by HJH Studios. The yacht has it all – a massive sundeck, an impressive skylounge, and a fantastic, young, energetic crew led by can-do skipper, Australian Phil Frost. Phil’s motto is, “Say yes, then figure out how to make it happen!”
With just hours to prepare, Phil and his team provisioned and prepared for our clients’ arrival in Bonifacio. Less than 2 hours after getting onboard, our clients sent us two, short, but telling texts. First, the husband wrote, “Having the best time.” Then, his wife wrote, “Oh man, this crew is awesome!”
Once back home, the family called us to say the yacht was beautiful and surprisingly comfortable for a 40 meter yacht, and the crew made everyone feel as if they were onboard a 70 meter vessel.
They were so impressed, plans are already underway for a repeat trip in September…
If you’re considering a private yacht charter vacation in the Med in August or September (or the Caribbean this winter), it’s hard to overstate the value, luxury, and comfort you’ll find with Captain Phil Frost, onboard Benetti motor yacht ‘H…
[Side note – Beyonce and Jay-Z decided to do a little boating after the concert as well. They loaded the family onboard motor yacht KISMET, before returning to the next leg of their world tour…]

Back in 2009, when motor yacht SEALYON was first launched (her name at the time was yacht CANDYSCAPE II), we remember saying, “This yacht has, ‘it’“ – that exceptional fusion of glamour, design, and quality. As it turned out, we were not alone in our praise of the Espen Øino-designed superyacht, built by Italy’s Viareggio Super Yachts. Right out of the gate, the yacht scored a 2010 World Superyacht Award as the Best Displacement Motor Yacht, 500GT-1,299GT.
Interior Design As Sweet As Candy
That recognition was followed up in 2011 with a win at the International Yacht Awards in the category of “Power Yachts over 60 metres” for her outstanding interior design by Candy & Candy of London. One judge referred to the interior as, “An eclectic collection of detailed decoration using veneers, fabrics, leathers, metals and stones to create a truly unique floating wonder.”
Every Picture Tells A Story
Fast-forward to 2018, and the 202ft super yacht SEALYON, ex Candyscape II is still as impressive as the day she was first launched. T. Debuse, who oversees the yacht charter management for the vessel’s owner says, “(charter yacht) SEALYON is undoubtedly a yacht that has fulfilled its mission statement with the highest build quality and superbly comfortable, beautifully decorated and detailed interior.” DeBuse also thinks the yacht’s new video captures the splendor of the yacht. “They say a picture paints a 1000 words – the video of Sealyon paints a picture indeed!”
A Week Your Family Will Never Forget…
The 61.8 meter superyacht offer accommodations for up to 12 guests, and is available for France yacht charter vacations along the Côte d’Azur in the summer, and St. Barts yacht charter holidays in the Caribbean in the winter and spring. When it comes to owners choosing unique names for their yachts, there’s no lack of inspiration. From the obvious ( LADY SARA, LISA IV, et al) to the sublime (e.g. CLOUDBREAK, PARADISE, et al), the only limit to a creative name for a yacht is the owner’s imagination.
While we’ve seen yachts named after famous movies, animals, and people, we have to admit – a yacht named after a candy bar is unique and rare!
So, our team had to chuckle when a beautiful new yacht recently entered the luxury yacht charter marketplace, sporting a name inspired by a popular candy bar found in your neighborhood grocery store.
The Sunseeker 131 motor yacht TAKE 5 shares a name with the well-known Hershey Company candy bar.
The candy bar (per Hershey) is, “…five layers of sweet and salty goodness that doesn’t ask you to compromise. It’s crunchy pretzels, smooth peanut butter, salty peanuts and sweet caramel—all wrapped in silky milk chocolate.”
The eponymous yacht (per Sunseeker) is, “A sublime example of design and engineering, every detail, feature and interior space is nothing short of extraordinary.”
Seems both manufacturer are equally proud of their creations!
Since her launch in 2016, yacht TAKE 5 Sunseeker 131 was strictly used for the personal enjoyment of the owner and his family and friends. Now that the yacht is available for luxury yacht charter, it will be based in the Caribbean during the winter/spring, and in the Western Mediterranean in the summer.
With the candy bar featuring five layers of flavor, it’s only fitting to present five unique charter features about the yacht:
By the way, in case you thought it was just a coincidence that the yacht and candy bar share a name – individual snack sized Take 5 candy bars fill crystal candy bowls throughout the superyacht!
The Superyacht Experience… Nothing blends the chance to experience new cultures and reconnect with friends and family like a luxury yacht charter vacation. For more information or to arrange your own superyacht experience, contact 1-800 Yacht Charters at +1-800-922-4824 or +1-305-253-7245 today.

Doing any boating this spring in the Virgin Islands? If you are, plan on bringing a few extra bucks with you (or…take a money-saving tip from our company President, Jana Sheeder).
This will be the first spring yachting season since the BVI enacted new legislation in 2017, increasing cruising taxes.
Here’s a breakdown of both the previous and current fees:
These rates apply to Virgin Islands yacht charter vessels registered and based in the British side of the territory. “Foreign” based yachts – meaning charter yachts coming in from other bases such as the US Virgin Islands and elsewhere — will also see an increase – from $4 to $16 per person per day.
HELPFUL TIP – Jana Sheeder, our company President, suggests,
“When planning your Virgin Islands yacht charter vacation, ask your charter broker to present yachts ‘based’ in the British (BVI) side of the territory if possible, as opposed to those based in St . Thomas (USVI) or elsewhere. This small tip can save you 63% in extra cruising fees!!!”
A complete explanation of the tax increase is available on the official British Virgin Islands website.
This Spring, grab the family, leave the stress of work and school behind, and set sail for adventure in the nearby Bahamas or the Virgin Islands – both a short flight from the USA mainland. Let 1-800 Yacht Charters Deliver the Superyacht Experience to you and your family.

When it comes to naming a superyacht, the sources of inspiration seem limitless.
Many owners select the name of their spouse, or their children. Others opt for themes, such as romance and affection. Of course, movie-themed names remain popular as well (e.g. John and Jeanette Staluppi and their James Bond yacht selection including DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER, CASINO ROYALE and Benetti yacht SPECTRE, Project FB269.
For the multi-yacht owner of the 83 meter Amels motor yacht HERE COMES THE SUN, the inspiration is musical, and somewhat obvious to most Baby Boomers – songs by The Beatles.
His last two yachts were the 47 meter Heesen yacht LET IT BE and the 65 meter Amels Limited Editions 212 yacht IMAGINE (now renamed re-named INFINITE SHADES).
In a way, the name seems entirely appropriate – this yacht is nothing short of a behemoth, and does seem to be the size of the sun when silhouetted against the evening skyline. The new flagship of the fabled Dutch yard and the first Amels Limited Editions 272, the yacht comes in at 2827 gross tons, more than the 95 meter Lurssen yacht KISMET (2700GT).

Wow, this news couldn’t come at a better time…
After navigating the congested roads and waterways of Miami Beach the past 4 days at the 2018 Miami Yacht Show, we’re thrilled to announce the show will relocate to the mainland – near downtown Miami, for the 2019 installment of the annual event!
Pending state and federal permits, the show will relocate to the Resorts World property (formerly the headquarters of the Miami Herald newspaper), just north of downtown Miami next to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts and the Sea Isle Marina.
The show is managed and co-owned by Informa and IYBA, the International Yacht Brokers Association (our company President, Jana Sheeder is a member of IYBA). The event runs concurrently with the Miami International Boat Show, which is owned and operated by the National Marine Manufacturers Association.
This year, as in years past, our biggest challenge in inspecting the luxury yacht charter vessels participating in the show is the lack of timely access. Some yachts are docked along the Indian Creek waterway, in front of the iconic Eden Roc and Fontainebleau hotels. Scenic? Yes. Accessible? Hardly… There’s only one road running north to south (Collins Avenue) and it can easily take 1 hour to traverse the mile-long row of yachts docked along Collins Avenue.
Further adding to the time constraints, the largest yachts (like 213 foot Codecasa superyacht Double Down, and 180 foot Heesen yacht Quite Essential) can’t fit at Indian Creek, so they are moored at the Island Gardens marina on Watson Island – about 5 miles away. Traffic congestion and a woeful lack of parking near the show locations exacerbates the access problems.
At 1-800 Yacht Charters, President Jana Sheeder and her team mitigates these problems by moving between the locations by boat. It helps – but still involves a loss of time traveling between locations, as low bridges force us to cruise a long circuit between Collins Avenue and Watson Island. Yes, it’s faster than traveling by car, but still far from ideal…
Other transportation options:
-Shuttle buses, but their schedules are irregular
-Bicycles for rent, but not ideal when with clients
-Skateboards, but those were used by crewmembers to zip back and forth between nearby hotels (too far to skateboard between marinas)
-Uber and Lyft – a good option, but inconvenient when only going a block or so
^ Resorts World LLC Miami Yacht Show location ^
The new site on the mainland offers ease of access, ample parking, and Miami’s rapid transit Metrorail and Metromover trains. This is prime waterfront property – located between the Venetian and MacArthur Causeways. Whereas the Collins Avenue location had minimal space for on-land exhibits, the new location will include exhibition space for compatible luxury products such as:
Most importantly for our team, water taxi transportation will connect the primary show site to Islands Gardens superyacht marina on Watson Island, where some of the largest charter yachts in the world will be berthed. Even cruising at 5 knots in a watertaxi should take no more than 5 minutes to shuttle between these two locations.
The new yacht show venue also has the added benefit of proximity to the Miami International Boat Show (MIBS) at the Miami Marine Stadium on Virginia Key (Key Biscayne).
[Side note – did we mention dozens of great international-fare restaurants located in downtown Miami?]
We’re extremely excited about the future of the Miami Yacht Show. With better parking, greater access to the charter yachts, luxury product vendors and restaurants, the 2019 show is an event not to be missed!

We’ve all seen the images – a silhouette of a sailing yacht, lying at anchor near a secluded beach, the sun setting in the background; or the massive superyachts docked side-by-side in a marina along the Côte d’Azur. It’s not hard to imagine you and your family inserted in those yachting images, enjoying la belle vie.
Is it realistic to think you can afford a holiday at sea on a private yacht?
To answer that question, let’s start with understanding exactly what a yacht charter is all about…
If you’ve ever stayed at a resort, you’ve already experienced the premise of a yachting vacation on a crewed yacht. From accommodations, to meals, activities and amenities, everything you and your family need are available in one location. The biggest difference – your location “moves” when you charter a yacht!
Take for example a Virgin Islands yacht charter vessel. While other travelers stay ashore and see the same view from their hotel window, each day you can wake up and experience a new location, as your yacht cruises from island to island. Forget a virtual online slideshow – this is the real deal!
While onboard, you’ll be pampered by a crew of trained professionals – from a captain to navigate, to a host/hostess to serve you, and a chef to prepare your meals. The actual number of crew depends on the size of yacht you charter and the level of service you request.
Just like the resort, the yacht offers accommodations, areas to relax and socialize, and a wide variety of recreational toys to enjoy – like snorkel gear, kayaks, and paddleboards. The larger yachts offer a wider variety of toys and amenities, including waverunners, cinema rooms, exercise equipment – even ondeck Jacuzzi spas.
There is one more distinguishing difference when compared to a resort – it’s completely private – only you and your family and friends and your crew are onboard – no one else!
Again, the comparison to seaside resorts best illustrates the locations available for enjoying a yachting holiday – if it’s on the ocean, chances are there are yachts in the area available for hire!
Here’s a partial list of the most popular destinations for chartering a crewed yacht:
If you guessed that we would once again go back and look at a resort for the answer – you’re right!
The price options for enjoying a crewed yacht directly compare to the prices of staying at a resort. Basic resorts in popular destinations can be very affordable for a family vacation, and so too can be the cost of a private yacht charter. Conversely, ultra exclusive resorts in posh settings charge premium rates – as do the most luxurious private yachts.
To put this into realistic perspective, here’s a sample of yachts and their prices:
The owners of charter yachts rely on a network of professional yacht charter brokers to serve as the go-between for owners and anyone interested in securing a yacht for hire. 1-800 Yacht Charters has been delivering The Superyacht Experience to their clients for over 30 years, has been recognized by Forbes as “Best Private Cruise,” and maintains a database of more than 500 crewed charter yachts around the world.
ONLY 1-800 Yacht Charters offers an industry first, Best Price Guarantee and makes a donation to your preferred charity, in your name, when you make your reservation. We also promote reusable water bottles and eco-tote bags for your use after you return home so that you can help to protect the oceans and the environment.
