3 to Watch: Luxury Yacht Charter Maven Shares Hottest Yacht Construction Trends for 2017 & Beyond

Posted on

With her repeat clients pushing for the newest yachts with unique amenities, Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters, understands the need to keep her finger on the pulse of the latest yachting design trends.

Sheeder shares with us three over-the-top design trends she has noticed on upcoming new builds and recently-launched superyachts:

BALCONIES:

OKTO superyacht balcony terrace

Long a design feature in upscale villas and resort suites, the use of balconies (or “terraces”) is the ideal way to integrate interior  and exterior areas.  This amenity has now caught a foothold in superyacht design.  Builders are adding balconies adjacent to interior dining rooms, beach clubs, and most impressively, off of master cabins. 66m ISA motor yacht OKTO, for example, incorporates a private balcony in her full beam master suite. The hydraulic balcony is  controlled by the guests at the simple touch of a button (a distinct advantage over earlier generation balconies on older yachts that required the assistance of the crew to open and close). The balcony comes with an air curtain to keep the interior spaces cool, while having the balcony open to the ocean.

POOLS:

OKTO aerial running shot showing pool and decks

No, not Jacuzzi-style spa tubs – they are still an important superyacht amenity as well.  We’re talking about cool, fresh water pools, large enough to frolic with the kids on a warm summer day (or swim in place with the aid of current-generating waterjets).

When you’re anchored in a cove near Ibiza on a hot July afternoon, a dip in cool freshwater is a pleasant alternative to the salty, warm ocean.  Great examples of Balearic island yacht charter vessels with pools are 67.5m motor yacht ICON, and 108m Pride Mega Yachts 2018 motor yacht TOMORROW.

WELLNESS AREAS:

Wellness massage room on yacht SOLANDGE

The interest in wellness yacht charter vacations continues to grow, with more and more clients requesting yachts that offer amenities for mind, body, and soul.  Saunas, steam rooms, gymnasiums, quiet yoga areas, as well as onboard nutritionists, beauticians, and massage therapists are a big draw.  Sheeder believes yachts that cater to mindfulness and overall wellness will be in great demand in 2017 and beyond.  Examples are the 85m Lurssen yacht SOLANDGE and  Tankoa yacht SUERTE (69m).

It’s time to rejuvenate mind, body, and spirit. Let 1-800 Yacht Charters Deliver the Superyacht Experience to you, your family and friends.  Call 305-253-7245 or email info@1800yachtcharters.com.

33 Meter Crewed Catamaran Charter Vessel Launched By Curvelle Yachts

Posted on

In February we added the brand new 33 meter catamaran yacht QUARANTA to our website, in anticipation of her launch and christening.

We are proud to report motor yacht QUARANTA, the largest carbon hybrid composite power catamaran in the world, was successfully launched in February.

At 3.30am, the Turkish-built superyacht was pulled from her Tuzla shipyard shed on to the public road by a huge trailer. From there, she was towed 3 kilometers to the RMK shipyard for launching.

The following day, on Sunday morning at 10:45am, the yacht was officially christened and launched.

The vessel features a flexible layout. Six double cabins offer room for 12 guests, and be converted into three VIP suites, six twins, doubles, or any combination thereof. All guest cabins are located on the main deck and fitted with large windows.

Interior and exterior styling was provided by UK’s Lila Lou Studios, with Incat Crowther serving as the naval architects.

With four decks and a nine (9) meter beam, the catamaran provides nearly 50 per cent more space than a comparable 30 meter monohull.

She is available this summer for Eastern Mediterranean yacht charter vacations at a rate of €125,000 per week, plus all expenses.
A similar vessel, the Sunreef 70 power catamaran DAMRAK II is also available for hire in the Mediterranean in the summer months.=======================

SWAN luxury Benetti superyacht

ABOUT THE YACHT

The Benetti yacht charter vessel is the epitome of elegance.  Someone effectively blended contemporary style with classic touches.

DESTINATIONS

Sixty meter SWAN and her crew are now seasoned veterans.  They are ready to deliver a highly satisfying summer charter.  This yacht is capable of cruising at 14 knots.  She shares Western Mediterranean. Her itinerary includes destinations such as the Amalfi Coast, Corsica, Sardinia, Monaco, St Tropez and the Côte d’Azur.

CLOSER LOOK

Let’s take a closer look at M/Y SWAN.  Interior by Paris-based Pierre-Yves Rochon design.  It offers classic shapes, set in a color scheme of beige and crème for furnishing and upholstery.  Everything is framed by dark lacquered wood for cabinets and joinery. Uniquely, a collection of fine artwork by Botero, Dali, and others spreads throughout the interior.

MAIN DECK

Starting on the main aft deck, a large U-shaped sofa offers a comfortable welcome, effortlessly seating 12.  A set of white upholstered wooden armchairs and two additional semicircular sofas give the aft deck ample seating.  This is the perfect setting for entertainment.

MAIN SALON

First, from the aft deck, you enter the main salon through large sliding glass doors.  Warm and welcoming, the saloon highlights the yacht’s sublime delivery of  classic design couples with modern shapes.
One charter guest described this area as, “Tasteful, with an overall calm and hospitable feel.”
Second, forward of the main salon is the formal dining area.  Again, classic elegance has been embellished with a contemporary color palette. What a perfect location for a sophisticated dinner party.

SPIRAL STAIRCASE

A central spiral staircase connects all interior decks.  Adjacent to this central area is the owner’s office which serves as the entrypoint to the master suite.  Lavishly spacious, this room has the look and feel of a fully-equipped spa.   The massive bathroom features a rainforest shower area with hydro-therapy jets. The stateroom itself is bathed in natural light via a circular central skylight, and a semicircular array of windows that turn this room into a luxurious private observation lounge with panoramic views beyond the yacht’s bow.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Motor yacht SWAN can accommodate up to twelve guests, with additional staterooms found on the upper and lower decks. Located on the lower deck, two doubles and two twins can be found, all adjacent to the central staircase. Each cabin has sumptuous ensuite bathrooms.

UPPER DECK

On the upper deck, a VIP suite doubles as both an extra stateroom as well as a massage and wellness area. A licensed  masseuse is onboard and at the guests’ disposal.

AFT

The aft section of the upper deck features an open-air saloon where a bar, games table, and multiple seating arrangements can be found.  Although this may be true, the large space allows for both intimate dinner parties as well as elegant cocktail parties.

SUN DECK

Last but not least, the sumptuously-sized sun deck.  Primary features include the Jacuzzi area, with tub, big sun pads, and an extended lounging sofa. The central section offers shade from the sun under a hard top and an area to use the onboard gym equipment (including rowing, running and Pilates machines and a trainer bicycle). For guests preferring to get their exercise in the water, there’s a large beach club deck, located at the yacht’s stern.

SUMMARY

Simply put, this is an amazing yacht and her collection of amenities, combined with her sense of style, make her a perfect choice for any charter.

60 Meter Yacht Sinks Off Greek Coast

Posted on

Double photograph of motoraycht Yogi. The top left diagonal photo is the yacht underway. The bottom right diagonal photo is a picture of the boat on its side, as it is sinking.

Yogi Superyacht Sinks

YOGI IN THE NEWS

The Greek Coast Guard reports motor yacht YOGI sank.  She is a 62 meter Mediterranean yacht charter vessel.  When she sank, she was cruising off the coast of Greece.  No one was injured.  All crew rescued.

PROTEKSAN TURQUOISE

Built less than a year ago in Turkey by Proteksan Turquoise, motor yacht YOGI was reported to be in trouble Friday morning in the area between the islands of Skyros and Psara, 19 nautical miles off the coast.

WHAT CAUSED THE YACHT TO SINK?

A “mechanical failure”  is blamed for the incident.  It occurred in strong seas and Force 8 winds. There were no reports of injuries as all 8 French crewmembers were rescued by three Greek Coast Guard helicopters, supported by a frigate from the Hellenic Navy.  The crew was transferred to Skyros Health Center as a precautionary measure.

WARRANTY WORK

Motoryacht YOGI had just completed warranty work in Turkey, and was en route to her berth in the south of France. Capt. Jean Louis Carrel told Greek authorities that although the weather was rough, he believed the sinking was due to a mechanical failure with the exhaust system.

BUILDER SPEAKS

On Saturday, Mehmet Karabeyoglu, head of Proteksan Turquoise, the yacht’s builder, commented.

“What I find surprising is that [from] the first mayday call to the boat sinking was nearly seven hours.  They had power as you can see lights on [in the photos and video shot by the Hellenic rescue team].”

Ask whether any warranty work was done on the engines or exhaust systems,  Karabeyoglu said,

“She was just repainted, but we did no work in the engine room as it was perfect. No mechanical work other than routine service of the Cat engines. Perhaps they took bad fuel when they refueled in Istanbul.”

YACHT DETAILS

Proteksan Turquoise yacht YOGI was built in 2011 to ABS +A1, +AMS standards and was classed as Commercial Yachting Service (E). Her stunning profile and interior was designed by Jean Guy Verges, who has designed six other builds by the Turkish-based yard. This was the second of three superyacht vessels delivered by Proteksan in 2011.

OTHER YACHTS BY PROTEKSAN TURQUOISE

Other yachts offered for charter by this builder are motor yacht BARAKA and motoryacht SEQUEL P.

The naval architects at Espen Oeino International S.A.R.L. continue to raise the bar of superyacht design with their latest offering – Sunrise Yachts motor yacht IRIMARI.

superyacht Irimari side profile solid white boat at anchor on calm sea

Delivered to her owner in July, the 63 meter yacht is currently cruising in the Greek islands.  So far there is no word if the vessel will be entering the Greek yacht charter fleet.

Sunrise 63 yacht IRIMARI is scheduled to make her official debut at the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show this month.

Per our friends at Boat International, one exciting “superfeature” to be expected inside motoryacht Irimari is “…a video wall spanning two decks!

Based in Monaco, Espen Oeino International is considered one of the leading design studios of private yacht charter vessels, especially in the category of Superyachts.  Their portfolio includes Lurssen motor yacht MARTHA ANN, and the world’s largest yacht available for charter, Fincantieri yacht SERENE.

The launch of yacht IRIMARI marks the first of the Sunrise 63 series to splash down for the Turkish builder.  The Espen Oeino designed yacht features interiors by Focus Yacht Design and naval architecture by Unique Yacht Design. Built with a high tensile steel hull and aluminum superstructure, the yacht has a transatlantic range of 5,000 miles, and a top speed of 17 knots.

67M Sailboat Prepares for Antarctica Yacht Charter in February

Posted on

We just received word Alloy sail yacht VERTIGO has committed to accept charters in Patagonia and Antarctica, starting February 2016.  Rates are set at Euro 295,000 per week plus running expenses for a maximum 12 guests.

Having recently wrapped up her Monaco yacht charter season, the luxury sailing yacht spent the month of October in Singapore for maintenance work prior to her journey to the southern hemisphere in November.

Vertico sail yacht

Built by Alloy Yachts, and designed by Philippe Briand, the 67 meter yacht VERTIGO is the largest sailing yacht built in the southern hemisphere.

Her amenities and features include:

  • Loft-style interiors, custom-designed by Christian Liaigre
  • Oversized Jacuzzi hot tub with retractable sunpads, Bimini covers, glass screens, and air conditioning on the Deck
  • Midarette gymnasium with direct sea access
  • Open-air cinema screen
  • 4 tenders, including an 8 meter Limo tender with removable roof
  • Sailing dinghies, kayaks, paddleboards, scuba equipment, inflatables, and towable toys

Patagonia

We find the idea of a Patagonia yacht charter immensely intriguing.  This is a sparsely populated area located at the southern tip South America, with the western coastline belonging to Chile and the eastern side, part of Argentina. The opportunities for exploration and adventure are numerous, as this region comprises the southernmost portion of the Andes mountains.  Just east of the mountains, there is great bio-diversity with deserts, steppes, and grasslands. The western coast of Patagonia borders the Pacific ocean, and the eastern coast borders the Atlantic ocean.

AMEVI superyacht

When the 80 meter (262 foot) Oceanco super yacht AMEVI first entered the Mediterranean yacht charter marketplace in 2008, she looked like most of the other megayachts available for hire – big and white.  Not any more…

Built by Oceanco with exterior design by Nuvolari & Lenard and an interior by Alberto Pinto, charter rates for M/Y Amevi begin at €700,000 per week, plus expenses for a maximum 12 passengers.
