One look at the design of catamaran yacht WINDQUEST, and it becomes clear the Italians aren’t the only Europeans builders with an eye for cutting-edge modernism. France’s JFA Chantier Naval Yachts has introduced the flagship of the Long Island 85 series. Her bold, aggressive lines will leave Italian designers from Milan to Viareggio scratching their collective heads and wondering how to top the innovative appearance of this French built beauty. Big on looks as well as comfort, JFA yacht WINDQUEST packs the space and roominess of a 120 foot megayacht into the hull of an 85 foot sailing yacht.
While similar in terms of comfort and spaciousness, what makes catamaran WINDQUEST stand apart from most motoryachts is her minimal impact on the environment. Her twin hulls are lightweight aluminum, and her decks are built of light but weather-resistant composite material. She is fitted with a light but ultra-strong carbon fiber mast and boom, and her sail area is that of a high performance sailing yacht. With motoryachts relying on fossil fuel for propulsion, this lightweight 85 foot catamaran slices through the water, driven by the wind. When mechanical power is needed, high efficiency engines move her along at an economical fuel-sipping speed, of 8.6 to 10 knots.
Outside entertainment begins with the large aft cockpit, featuring a seating area to starboard and al fresco dining area to port. Sunbeds are positioned to both side and a convenient day head means guest need not pass through the yacht’s interior in wet bathing suits. Large clear sliding doors open to the salon, and when left open seem to extend the cockpit inside, creating a living room environment with a seating area and bar on the starboard side and a cozy dining room on port.
Nothing says “megayacht” like the presence of a full-beam master cabin with King Berth, seating area with sofa and chairs, and a desk. The master bath boasts a 5-head steam shower and his and her sinks. Stretching across the entire beam of the yacht’s twin hulls, the large, impressive owner’s suite is surrounded on three sides by glass. The effect is a superb 180 degree view that bathes the cabin in natural light. Equally unique and impressive is the mini set of stairs that leads to a private outdoor observation deck, just forward of the owners’ cabin.
In addition to the owner’s cabin are three guest cabins with Queen Berths. One of these cabins can be converted into a study.
