Builder of Boats For Crewed Catamaran Charters Turns 30

Posted on

While the recent Paris boat show was an opportunity for bareboat yacht charter lovers to discover the new Lagoon catamaran 39, a more important milestone was celebrated – the 30th birthday of Lagoon Catamarans.
The builder celebrated their shipbuilding birthday at the French show, which ran from December 7 to 15.
The first Lagoon catamaran model was delivered in 1987.  Now, over 3,000 Lagoon catamarans have splashed down around the world.

For three decades, the company has been a leader in design innovation. A few examples:
Lagoon invents vertical windows for the Lagoon 410 catamaran, adding welcoming light and a feeling of more volume.
No one had ever seen or heard of a flybridge on a sailing catamaran.  That is, until Lagoon installed one. Now, a decade later, all Lagoons 45’ and larger are equipped with a flybridge.
The first hybrid-powered cruising catamaran is introduced to the market – the Lagoon 420.
The Lagoon 620, the benchmark for crewed catamaran charters was introduced. Ask any charter broker their preferred vessels for a Virgin Islands yacht charter vacation, and they will probably point to Lagoon 620 sail catamaran AVALON and luxury sailing catamaran CROCODILE DADDY
The new Lagoon 39 and 52 models, featuring innovation by VPLP naval architects, have the masts pushed back aft for comfort, performance, and easy handling.

Happy 30th birthday, Lagoon!  Thank you for all that you’ve done for the catamaran charter industry — here’s to another 30 years.

The idea of enjoying a Caribbean yacht charter in St. Lucia just got a whole lot easier, as United Airlines adds the tiny island nation to its network of flights to the Caribbean from the United States.

The air carrier’s inaugural flight flew on July 11th, 2015, from Newark, New Jersey’s Liberty Airport, to St. Lucia’s Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) on Saturday.   United will offer one flight a week on Saturdays, from Newark to St. Lucia, on a 154-seat Boeing 737-800 jet.

Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters welcomed the news.  “In looking at United’s domestic schedule, it appears customers will be able to connect to Newark from 22 cities in the U.S., including Chicago, Boston and Washington,” says Sheeder.  “This is great news for our clients seeking a private yacht charter in the Windward Islands of the Caribbean, as the biggest challenge for years has been the scarcity of flights.”

In the past, it was necessary to connect in Puerto Rico or St Martin and take regional flights to get to destinations such as St Lucia and St Vincent.

Long a popular stop for the cruise ship industry, the addition of direct flights will make it easier for North Americans to experience the beauty of St Lucia from the deck of a private yacht.  Charter clients will be treated to the views of the spectacular twin mountains known as the Pitons.  The island is also known for its uncrowded volcanic beaches, quaint fishing villages, reef-diving sites, and lush rainforests and waterfalls.

Sheeder believes eco-friendly yacht charter options are the best way to enjoy St. Lucia.  “With constant trade winds, a quiet, but spirited vacation on sailboat is the ideal way to enjoy a St. Lucia yacht charter experience.”  Sheeder recommends the affordability and comfort of a catamaran, with room for the whole family.  “There are great, affordable, family-oriented yachts, with crews adept at entertaining children of all ages, with exciting games and watersports,” claims Sheeder.

Some of the crewed catamaran yacht charter vessels recommended by Sheeder include Sunreef 62 sail yacht CATSY, Lagoon 620 sail boat catamaran CROCODILE DADDY, and the speedy Gunboat 66 sail catamaran TIGER LILY.

Flight availability for your private luxury yacht charter vacation is just that much more convenient with more commercial airlines offering availability to the area.

Hemisphere, the world's largest crewed sailing catamaran multihull

With a delivery date to her owner set for later this month, sail yacht HEMISPHERE is set to join the list of the world’s newest and largest yachts.

With an overall length of 145 feet, catamaran sailing yacht Hemisphere will qualify for the record as the world’s largest luxury sailing catamaran. Built in the UK by the Pendennis Shipyard, the multihull yacht features the naval architecture of Van Peteghem Lauriot Prévost (VPLP) – designers of the 33rd America’s Cup winning multihull. Michael Leach Design studios are handling the interior. Insiders report this pooling of talent has resulted in an innovative design – blending speed and stability with space and contemporary style.

Decks are uncluttered as visible deck hardware has been minimized, and the 190 foot tall mast soars free of spreaders, with all lines concealed internally. Tenders are also stowed out of sight and the port transom houses a full watersports and dive locker served by a large hydraulic swim platform.

With a draft of just under 10 feet, catamaran Hemisphere can cruise shallow draft destinations, making her ideal for Bahama yacht charters and other shallow areas throughout the Caribbean. The big cat features a spacious flybridge with Jacuzzi, sunpads, and shaded dining, as well as a roomy indoor/outdoor living areas on the main deck.

Five comfortable cabins, all with ensuite bathrooms offer accommodations for 10 to 12 guests. A professional crew of 8 will operate the yacht during its inaugural season this summer, restricted to owner’s use in the Mediterranean. Charter activity will commence this winter, 2011, in the Caribbean with rates starting at €175,000 per week.
