Call it, “Life imitating art.” When under siege by a great white shark in the 1975 film, JAWS, actor Roy Scheider’s character exclaimed, ‘We’re gonna need a bigger boat.’
It seems the film’s director Steven Spielberg has taken that sentiment to heart, as his 282 foot superyacht is up for sale, and it is scheduled to be replaced with an even larger vessel.
The Spielberg yacht SEVEN SEAS, built in 2010 by Dutch yard Oceanco, has lived up to its name. In 2013, the famous director, his wife Kate Capshaw, and their seven children took the yacht on a 30,000-mile round-the-world cruise.
Over the years, many famous Hollywood celebrities have been guests onboard the yacht, including Gwyneth Paltrow, and Leonardo DiCaprio. According to the UK’s Daily News, a friend of the director said, “Steven didn’t realize how much he’d enjoy cruising the ocean. Now he’d like to spend more time exploring the seas, and bring a few friends along for the ride. So he’s upgrading to a bigger yacht.”
When not in use by Spielberg and his family, the Monaco yacht charter vessel is available for hire. This season’s charter rate in the Mediterranean is $1.2 million per week. “She has always been a favorite charter yacht,” says Jana Sheeder, President and yacht charter Maven of 1-800 Yacht Charters.
If you’re considering renting the yacht this summer, you might have to wait until September, as the legendary director and his family have spent a considerable portion of their summer vacation onboard, and were recently spotted taking in the sites of Portofino, Italy. Even the family dog is along for the ride.

Ah, life is good for film star Leonardo DiCaprio. Dating “Gossip Girl” actress Blake Lively, we first caught a glimpse of Leo relaxing onboard motoryacht SEVEN SEAS, Steven Spielberg‘s multi-million dollar superyacht, during the recent Cannes Film Festival 2011.
Now we hear di Caprio is about to take delivery of a 2012 Fisker Karma hybrid luxury sports sedan. And not just any Fisker Karma – the very first one ever built.
The actor is known for leading the green enviro movement in Hollywood, and his latest toy, like his Toyota Prius is built with sustainability in mind. The Karma is designed by Henrik Fisker, formerly of Aston Martin, and has been developed around an aluminium chassis.
The plug-in Karma is driven by a a pair of electric motors totaling 403hp, powered by a 22 kWh lithium ion battery, or a 175kW generator turned by a 2.2L gas engine.
Even with its eco-friendly background, the Karma features a 125 mph top speed and can go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds.
Also waiting in line for his own hybrid is Al “An Inconvenient Truth” Gore.
Just imagine the buzz if Leo were to invest in a hybrid mega yacht charter vessel?!

Apparently, actress Blake Lively is not letting the internet rumor-mill ruin quality time with new beau, Leonardo DiCaprio.
While gossip websites circulated a series of photographs purporting to show the “Gossip Girl” actress posing naked, Blake and Leo were seen relaxing and laughing onboard motoryacht SEVEN SEAS, Spielberg’s multi-million dollar superyacht, during the recent Cannes Film Festival 2011.
Lively’s spokeswoman issued a statement saying the photos aren’t real. “The photos of Blake Lively which have just surfaced on various websites … are 100 percent FAKE,” the spokeswoman said. “Blake has never taken nude photos of herself.“
The Internet was abuzz last week, as the five photos of a naked, busty blond taking snapshots of herself with an iPhone in front of a bathroom mirror spread among major celeb-watcher websites. Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton wrote, “Blake Lively won’t be happy about this,” while site Zap2It, suggested the pictures were several years old.Lively will take legal action against any outlets that publish the photos, the spokeswoman added.
Lively rose to fame in the teen television soap “Gossip Girl.” Earlier this year she was hired as the new face of Chanel’s Mademoiselle handbag ad campaign.
The actress had a chance to take a break from the hustle of the film fest and relax at sea with Leo and his good friend Lukas Haas onboard Steven Spielberg’s 282 foot vessel. At one point, Lively was seen enjoying a big laugh with Di Caprio before getting a warm hug from the Hollywood leading man.The former Mediterranean yacht charter vessel, motor yacht SEVEN SEAS was originally put into charter after her launch in late 2010. At the time, she was on of the largest yachts available for hire. Since then, her famous owner had a change of heart and decided to keep the yacht for private use only…at least for now.

As a destination, Greece is a sensory celebration. It’s a dance with history and ancient gods, and a courtship between natural beauty and modern luxuries. It’s also an invitation to indulge in a slower pace and simpler pleasures, like savoring a taverna meal complemented by a fantastic local wine you’ve most likely never heard of.
Of course, the ideal way to explore the myriad of small Greek islands is to rent a private yacht.
For travelers with experience at the helm, a bareboat charter is the most affordable option for exploration. Similar to renting a car, you do the “driving” by serving as your own skipper. Yes, you and your travel companions must also do the cooking and cleaning, but when it comes to saving money, it is hard to top the appeal of a bareboat charter, especially sail boat charters as compared to power boats.
If you are not qualified to operate your own boat, or simply desire a hire level of comfort and amenities, some of the largest yachts in the world can be rented in the land of the gods.
The famous yacht CHRISTINA O calls Greece home. The private vessel of the late Greek shipping tycoon, Aristotle Onassis, this yacht offers huge deck spaces and the indulgence of an original mosaic-tiled swimming pool. In addition to the Jacuzzi, there are three public lounges, a gym, and a game room – and the famous bar where Sir Winston Churchill first met Jackie Kennedy.
When to go to Greece? Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters recommends visiting Greece between May and October. “We prefer the so-called “shoulder season” (May and September/October), since the weather is generally good, and you’ll enjoy more elbow room and often better prices in restaurants and gift shops.”
When to book a yacht charter in Greece? NOW is the time to make your 2011 Greece yacht charter reservations.

Why rent a private yacht to attend the world’s preeminent film festival when you can stay onboard your own superyacht?
That’s exactly what Steven Spielberg did – opting to stay aboard his 282′ luxury yacht charter vessel, motor yacht SEVEN SEAS, during the 66th annual Cannes Film Festival, which took place in Cannes, France.
The legendary film producer and director spent most nights onboard the Oceanco motor yacht SEVEN SEAS, along with wife, Kate Capshaw.
Spielberg served as the President of the film jury for the main competition.
When asked about his role as head of the jury, Spielberg replied, “It is an honor and a privilege to preside over the jury of a festival that proves, again and again, that cinema is the language of the world.”
While other A-list celebs were forced to navigate the crowded streets of Cannes and the endless sea of paparazzi, Spielberg and his guests escaped each evening to the privacy of a, “floating villa.” Spielberg yacht SEVEN SEAS offers accommodations for 12 guests and is loaded with amenities.
The infinity swimming pool on her aft deck can conveniently be transformed into a full helipad, or used as a screen for viewing movies while on deck or in the pool, itself.
Some of our readers may remember first reading about yacht SEVEN SEAS in June, 2011, while Leo DiCaprio and then-steady Blake Lively were onboard. Later that same summer, the Mediterranean yacht charter vessel was again in the news when the Steven Spielberg yacht ran afoul of the Italian Coast Guard while guest Gwyneth Paltrow was visiting.

Like it or not, information in “Real time” is a way of life. Whether it’s the latest Tweet by Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, the tumbling Euro in the continuing global debt crisis, or the 12th hour NBA lockout negotiations – we need our information now, as it happens, streaming live to our smart phones and laptops.
Staying connected is a way of life, even when we travel for pleasure. The mega yacht charter industry, frequently viewed as pathfinders in embracing technology and gadgets, clearly understands the need to be wired. Industry insiders report nearly 98% of all megayachts for hire feature onboard WiFi service for use of their guests.
But is WiFi all you need to stay in touch with the real world during a charter holiday? According to Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters, WiFi is only one part of the answer. “Clients often ask if the yacht they are considering for their vacation has WiFi,” says Sheeder. “What they really should be asking is, ‘Does the yacht have VSAT?‘“
Many yachts with WiFi capability can only access the Internet when they are in close proximity to a WiFi server. Many marinas have WiFi servers; but what happens when the yacht sets off for a remote cove for a day of swimming and snorkeling? Unless the yacht has VSAT, the onboard WiFi capabilities are rendered useless.
VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) is simply a satellite system. The superyacht has a dome and antenna onboard that connects from just about anywhere at sea to a satellite in space. “Having VSAT onboard means the client can be anchored off the coast of a remote island during a Caribbean yacht charter, flip open their laptop, and use WiFi to connect to the Internet,” explains Sheeder.
When booking your next yachting holiday, be sure to ask for a specific breakdown of the yacht’s WiFi systems.

Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines….and captains, prepare to cast off!
Formula One (FIA Formula One World Championship), the foremost auto racing league on the planet, is actively scouting Miami, Florida (USA) as a possible site for a new Grand Prix race. If Miami is selected as a venue, expect to see dozens of luxury yacht charter vessels lining the course, with thousands of spectators crowding the decks for a bird’s eye view of the action.
According to a report by the Miami Herald, F1 execs visited Miami in November, and met with the mayor and government officials to discuss potential racing circuits and logistics for an annual event in the downtown area, along Biscayne Bay.
Events director for the city of Miami, Vicente Betancourt, says the goal is to add Miami to the Formula 1 season in 2020. “It’s like the Super Bowl of auto racing,” said Betancourt. “Hopefully we can make it happen.”
Will the amazing Michael Buffer possibly be the announcer for a Miami Grand Prix Formula One race?
Wouldn’t you love to see professional race car drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Bottas, Vettel, Raikkonen, or Verstappen…and high tech Mercedes, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati racecars on the downtown streets of sunny Miami?
This would be a wonderful boost for the South Florida economy, and it would provide corporate sponsorships from such companies as Amazon (founder, Jeff Bezos, graduated high school in Miami, Florida), Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Hotel Intercontinental, The Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Spa, The Forge, The Biltmore, Britto, Norman Braman, and 1-800 Yacht Charters.
Each year, from April through November, the Formula One’s series is comprised of 20 races in cities around the globe (Singapore, Budapest, Sao Paulo, Monaco, et al). Currently, there are 15 road courses and five courses laid out on city streets.
Formula 1 is under new ownership (Liberty Media) and is looking to expand its U.S. presence. Like professional soccer, F1 has a massive fan base across the globe, but lags behind other sports in the United States, like football, basketball, and NASCAR. Currently, its lone United States Grand Prix race is in Austin, Texas. Chase Carey, Liberty Media’s CEO of the Formula 1 Group, has been saying he wants another American race to join the one already held at the Circuit of the Americas, in Austin. An event in Miami, or possibly Las Vegas or New York, has been publicly discussed.
Carey wants to see F1 grab a foothold in “destination cities” like New York, Los Angeles, Miami, or Las Vegas in order to create a week-long celebration capable of attracting people from all over the world.
Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters believes Miami is a natural fit for a F1 event.
“Of all the races held annually by F1, the two premier events are staged in Monaco and Abu Dhabi,” says Sheeder. “Both locations have courses along the waterfront, and thousands of spectators enjoy the race and the festivities from the decks of dozens of luxury yachts. The Miami Grand Prix would duplicate that unique setting, as the course would pass through downtown Miami, along our beautiful waterfront area – and we have many superyachts that already make South Florida their home port.”
According to AutoGuide.com, Formula One filed on November 1st for a new trademark on a race event in Miami (as well as Las Vegas and New York). The next day, Sean Bratches, Formula One’s director of commercial operations, came to Miami, with his track engineers, and met with Mayor Francis Suarez and checked out the city streets near the downtown area, along the waterfront. Betancourt, who has been in communications with F1 since May said nothing was finalized. “We’ve got to see if it works and what it would cost them to actually bring it out. I think the ball is pretty much in their court.”
Sheeder points out the idea of a major road race and spectator yachts is not new for the city. In the 1980’s, the Miami Grand Prix was a major annual event (but not affiliated with the F1 series). “Private luxury yacht charter vessels would line up, stern-to the seawall in the area that is now the Bayside Marketplace, and spectators would watch the race from the deck of their superyachts. In the evening, many of the yachts would host private parties for the charterers, as well as the owners, drivers, and corporate sponsors of the racing teams.”
Sheeder is optimistic a new F1 week-long race event will become a marquee attraction for South Florida. “Assuming the financing and logistics make sense for Formula One, a corporate hospitality Miami Grand Prix yacht charter could easily rival the excitement of a Monaco Grand Prix yacht charter or an Abu Dhabi yacht charter. Yes, Monaco has the edge thanks to many decades of exposure, but Miami could make a big splash. We have the best weather, and the largest inventory of luxury yacht charter vessels anywhere in the world. Throw in the sexy appeal of nearby South Beach with world-famous hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, and celebrities, and Miami is a world-class big-event town.”
Where else can you go to an upscale event, wearing little more than sandals and a bathing suit, where the best “seat” in the house is in an on deck Jacuzzi on a private luxury yacht???
Attending a Grand Prix event on a yacht is the ultimate in corporate hospitality. Come experience the excitement and glamour of Formula 1 racing in 2018. After a summer of private use by her celebrity owner, the on-again/off-again Mediterranean yacht charter superyacht SEVEN SEAS is scheduled to be on display at the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show, September 21 through 24.
The spectacular 86 meter (280 ft) Oceanco motor yacht SEVEN SEAS has been in the news throughout the summer, with the Steven Speilberg owned yacht playing host to both family and celebrity friends like Gwyneth Paltrow, Blake Lively and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Contemporary styling and modern lines define this elegant yacht. With a beam of 14.20 meters, she boasts extraordinary interior volume. Oceanco motor yacht SEVEN SEAS features spacious accommodations for twelve guests in four large guest suites and two luxurious VIP suites.
Oceanco’s signature infinity swimming pool can be found on an aft deck that can be conveniently transformed into a helipad. A favorite innovative highlight of 1-800 Yacht Charter’s President, Jana Sheeder on Seven Seas, is a projector, which will throw an image onto the aft glass wall of the pool allowing one to take in the latest movie while a swim at sea or on the quay.
Further testament to the owner’s iconic role in American cinema, the main salon is fully-equipped with a professional projection system and a 5 x 2 meter screen which, coupled with two rows of raked seating, can transform into a screening theater. Adjacent to the main salon is an imposing 250m² area, which can host everything from casual al fresco dining to a black-tie Cannes Film Festival gala.
The yacht has an extensive list of amenities including a wide array of water sport toys and tenders such as her custom enclosed 10.5 meter limo tender and custom 9.2 meter open sport boat.
Oceanco is proud to present this magnificent yacht at the upcoming 2011 Monaco Yacht Show. She will be berthed at slip R01. Visits on board will be by invitation only.
John Staluppi, the luxury yacht charter world’s archetypical yacht owner is at it again. Driven by imagination and pride, Staluppi has taken possession of his 16th megayacht.
Launched on Saturday 26th November 2011 at the state-of-the-art Benetti shipyard in Livorno, Italy the 60 meter Benetti FB253 is the boat’s official identification, but like so many of his earlier yachts, the vessel has been christened to honor another James Bond classic novel and film – motor yacht DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER.
Based on the shipyard’s famed naval architecture and engineering, the elegant external line of the new Benetti FB253 M/Y (Motoryacht) DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER is characterized by compact forms and dynamic slender lines. This balanced combination of traditional design elements and modern innovative stylistic solutions has become the benchmark of Benetti’s distinguishing mark throughout the world.
Long a fan of the James Bond 007 saga, Staluppi’s earlier creations included the aptly named motor yacht OCTOPUSSY, motoryacht MOONRAKER, motor yacht THUNDERBALL, M/Y THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, and the popular Bahama yacht charters mega yacht CASINO ROYALE, a fixture at the posh Atlantis Resort and Marina on Paradise Island.
Although M/Y CASINO ROYALE and his latest effort M/Y DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER were built for true luxury at sea, Staluppi’s earlier James Bond boat creations were built with a singular focus – SPEED. Setting records as some of the fastest superyachts in the world, it was the 43.5 meter motor yacht OCTOPUSSY which broke the 50-knot speed barrier 20 years ago and brought the name of New York-born John Staluppi to the attention of yacht aficionados.
With a background that is now well-known, the self-made millionaire left school when he was 16 and worked as a mechanic in Brooklyn before going on to develop one of the most successful car dealerships in North America — a business that enabled him to indulge his passion for racing fast boats, and then later for building megayachts.
While many charter yacht owners prefer to remain anonymous, Staluppi’s vision and passion bring fervor and excitement to a very conservative industry. After all, there aren’t many yachts aboard which guests are greeted by frosted-glass panels delicately etched with the silhouettes of Bond girls!
The customized, whimsical James Bond boat themes are a refreshing breath of fresh air in an industry of white, cookie-cutter production boats. Let’s hope Staluppi doesn’t run out of 007 movie titles, or his passion, any time soon.
Live the adventure – come explore an exotic destination on a James Bond boat.
