Posted onAfter 30+ years in the business, 1-800 Yacht Charters is still doing the things that earned them the title of “World’s Best Private Cruise” as recognized by Forbes.com.
So how does the company continue to attract active, well-traveled clients when many of their competitors offer the same yachts? According to company President, Jana Sheeder, it’s all about “Focus.”
“We don’t charter yachts,” says Sheeder, “we deliver The Superyacht Experience to our clients.”
Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters and 1-800 BAREBOAT
Sheeder goes on to explain her company’s philosophy: “Our mission began with a simple question – ‘What would happen if we built our business for #generosity?’ Instead of assuming that people want to simply maximize self-interest, our decision to focus on generosity allowed us to cater to our clients’ deeper motivations to make the world a better place.”
“This focus has propelled us to move beyond the basic rental of yachts and to deliver a true Superyacht Experience. While our competitors focus on finding the customer the “right boat,” we choose to take a more holistic approach.”
When a #luxury yacht charter inquiry comes in, Sheeder and her team of consultants interview the potential clients to learn what makes them tick.
“Today’s affluent world travelers are looking for more than just a static vacation on a yacht, says Sheeder. “They’re wired, connected, and driven by sustainability and the greater social good.”
Sheeder says the clients hope to immerse themselves and participate in unique cultural events and #voluntourism, and their chartered yacht serves as a platform to an eco-friendly adventure. “It’s a chance to reconnect with family and friends, embrace diverse cultures, and rejuvenate mind, body, and spirit,” says Sheeder. She chuckles and adds, “Sometimes, we don’t even discuss particular yachts until our second or third conversation.”
Sheeder admits some clients are puzzled at first, as most charter brokers immediately try to match the client to a particular yacht and crew. “At some point, they realize our entire focus is on them,” says Sheeder. “We share with them our sense of purpose, our commitment to promoting yachts and crews dedicated to protecting our environment, and how we created our business for generosity. Then, we explain our ‘Best Price Guarantee’ – something no other yacht charter brokerages offer in our industry.”
For Sheeder, focusing on generosity, sustainability, and taking the time to learn what motivates her clients is a recipe for success and fosters a deep sense of fulfillment. “We create a bond where we and the client work together [holding her hands together with fingers entwined] – synergistically – not only to create a special experience, but to make a difference in the world.”

About a year ago, we rebranded our business with a new focus, driven by our motto, “What if we built our business for Generosity?”
As leaders in arranging Mediterranean yacht charter vacations, along with private yacht holidays throughout Greece and the Caribbean, we recognized an opportunity, and an obligation, to grow our business for the greater social good.
Realizing you can rent a yacht from a number of qualified charter brokers around the world, we came up with a simple reason to book your yacht with us: “Charter a Yacht and Change the World.”
Wow – what a year 2015 turned out to be!
We are so proud of our clients – both repeat charterers and new customers. They embraced our commitment to sustainability and generosity.
With enthusiasm, they chose our reusable water bottles in lieu of disposable plastic bottles (to help reduce plastic pollution in our oceans). When we told them a portion of their charter cost would be donated to charity in their name, and that we wanted their input in selecting the charity, they were quick to direct multiple donations to their favorite causes.
Thanks to our clients, among MANY other things, we were able to:
Looking back, 2015 was a fantastic year.
We enter 2016 with a number of new yachts and new destinations to offer our clients. We have the brand new expedition yacht LEGEND, available for experiencing Greenland and Norway’s Fjords; and the world’s largest sailing yacht for charter made of wood, the yacht LAMIMA, available in the exotic islands of Thailand and Burma.
Our team is energized to share these yachts and destinations with our clients – for each charter vacation will give our clients a chance to reconnect with family and friends, embrace diverse cultures, and rejuvenate mind, body, and spirit.
Together, we will make a difference. When you choose to live a generous life, you start to change…and so does the world around you!!!
Happy New Year,

The week of February 14-20 is your chance to ramp up the idea of “being kind” as the world celebrates Random Acts of Kindness Week, 2016. Let’s extend Random Acts of Kindness Week!!!
Created by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, the week-long event is a way for all of us to “…step up your acts of kindness, be loud with your generosity, and commit to being a better person throughout the year. We believe kindness is a daily practice, but this is a week to celebrate and inspire others to join you.”
There are soooo many things we can do, and sooo many ways to get involved. All it takes is a bit of time — and a big heart!
From yesterday:
We were inspecting private yacht charter vessels at the inaugural Superyacht Miami Show, when I noticed our company President, Jana Sheeder, bent over picking something up on the docks. A few minutes later, I saw her do it again. I asked her what she was doing, and she proceeded to lay a handful of objects out on the dock for us to see. It was small items of debris – a used book of matches, some plastic, a metal bolt, and more. “Any of these objects could end up in the water, possibly harming the marine environment or adding to our problems with plastic pollution at sea. It only took a couple of moments to stop and pick these items up and try to make a difference.”
Suddenly, I found myself looking down as I walked along the dock, hoping I too could “chip in” and do my small part… Generosity and kindness are contagious, and it feels so good to do random things for others and for our community!
Need a little more motivation to jump feet-first into Random Act of Kindness Week? Sign the online “Kindness Pledge,” and you’ll be on your way to inspire others to do their part in making a kinder world for everyone.
SIGN the pledge here: https://www.randomactsofkindness.org/rakweek2016#pledge-form
We’d love to hear your suggestions of Random Acts of Kindness. Please leave them in the comments section for others to follow your lead in kind acts!
Have a kinder, generous week everyone… Thank you for making a difference and for being the change with us!

Posted onAfter a few months of exclusive use, the 140 foot IGA Yachts motor yacht KING BABY was entered into the charter market by her owner, and prominent yacht maven Jana Sheeder wasted no time in securing the very first charter.
Just days after the yacht’s manager publicly announced the yacht would be available for the upcoming Caribbean yacht charter season, Sheeder delivered a 10-night contract to hire the vessel during the year-end holidays.
Tall and beamy, the 140 foot yacht KING BABY, IGA Yachts (China’s) largest vessel built to date, is named after King Baby Studio, the iconic Los Angeles jewelry design business owned by Mitchell Binder. Binder has been the darling of the LA-based music industry for more than three decades, with celebrity clients including members of the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith. King Baby Studio has made custom jewelry for celebrities like Howard Stern, Liz Taylor, and Taylor Swift.
Binder and the yacht’s owner are close friends, and the owner wanted his new toy to reflect the confidence, charisma and maverick attitude of provocative jewelry line.
Luxury with a rebel spirit sums up both the jewelry and the look of the yacht. From chrome-plated guitars, to vintage rock photos framed in black alligator leather, to the ondeck Jacuzzi tub with a three tiered waterfall, to custom drain covers, the yacht is truly unique and unlike any charter vessel in the world. The rock décor is a collaborative effort between famed yacht designer Evan K Marshall, King Baby Studio, and Slick+Design.
Accommodations for up to 10 guests are available in a full beam master stateroom on the man deck, and 4 guests cabins below.
Of course, you can’t have a music-inspired yacht without a great entertainment system. 24 televisions (yep, 24, not a typo), including an 84-inch 4k screen in the skylounge are integrated with an Apple TV / music system. Surround sound pumps the beat throughout the interior & exterior – from bow to stern. Music can be played from a personal device or from the yacht’s music library.
Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters and 1-800 BAREBOAT
Sheeder, the President of Miami-based 1-800 Yacht Charters is known for her boutique operation that provides superyacht vacations to entertainment industry artists and executives.
King Baby is available from $160,000 per week in low season, to $175,000 per week for peak holiday dates. She will be based in the Caribbean through spring 2017, then relocate to New England for the summer.
