WELCOME THE FT. LAUDERDALE YACHT SHOW

The  2013 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, October 31-Nov 4, 2013, has drawn to a close.  Picture-perfect weather brought out record numbers of boating enthusiasts.

54th ANNUAL

The 54th installment of the annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, FLIBS, covers six locations and over 3 million square feet of space. Exhibits range from yacht builders and designers, to exotic cars and brokerage yachts. A variety of boats are on display, both in water and on land – runabouts, center consoles, cabin cruisers, skiffs, sailing yachts, tenders, superyachts, megayachts, powerboats, catamarans, and monohull sailboats.
Aerial photograph of the Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show. Thousands of yachts at docks.
Of course the star attractions each year remain the extraordinary superyacht vessels that dominate the Caribbean yacht charter marketplace each winter.
“For us, FLIBS represents the launch of the winter charter season,” says Jana Sheeder , President of SailAway Yacht Charters and 1-800 Yacht Charters“This is our chance to introduce our clients to the winter season’s best options for Florida yacht charter vacations.  Additionally, many of these yachts will consider relocating to the nearby islands to accept Bahamas yacht charter bookings.”

YACHTS IN ATTENDANCE

Among the charter yachts on hand at FLIBS were:
2009 187 foot #sailboat yacht MONTIGNE
2010 224 foot Nobiskrug motor yacht SYCARA V
2010 190 foot Trinity super yacht MI SUENO

WATERTOY UPDATES

In addition to the hundreds of yachts on display, Sheeder points out the show is the perfect venue for inspecting and testing the hottest new watertoys.
“If we see a ‘must have’ toy that we feel will enhance the charter experience for our clients, we’ll be the first to promote it to the charter yacht owners.  There is truly something for everyone at FLIBS.”

Crossing the Pond – the Preferred Superyacht Transport Option

Posted on

Aerial photograph of a ship that transports superyachts. It is headed down a canal, and there is a tugboat next to it. There are buildings in the background, as if the ship is pulling in to a city.

Dockwise Yacht Express Superyacht Transport

SUPERYACHT TRANSPORT

Earlier this week, the 686-foot (209 meter) Yacht Express, the flagship of Dockwise Yacht Transport’s (DYT) fleet of semi-submersible ships, pulled into Ft. Lauderdale.  Onboard was a record breaking cargo of boats and luxury yacht charter vessels valued collectively at $270,341,000.   The gray and orange-colored super ship took a berth at Port Everglades and began an hours-long de-ballasting process that allowed sea water to flood its dock bay.  By early evening,  19 state-of-the-art luxury yachts safely motored out the back and into the waters of South Florida.

LARGE YACHTS

The largest of the vessels to off-load was Trinity motor yacht MI SUENO #skyfall .  The 190’ (57.91 meter) megayacht had loaded on to Yacht Express in Genoa, Italy on October 6. She had just returned from the Monaco Yacht Show and was delivered to South Florida to enter the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

YACHT CAPTAIN COMMENTS

Captain Glynn Smith explains. Specifically, the reason the 190′  Trinity yacht charter vessel transports by ship.

“Mi Sueno’s shipping credits the yacht’s owner. He really knows how to look after his crew and boat.  The crew needs time off after such a busy Mediterranean yacht charter season, and shipping…gives us that option.”

COMPANY PRESIDENT COMMENTS

Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters, further explains how wear and tear on a yacht during the Atlantic crossing is avoided by using a transport ship.

“A typical Atlantic crossing can add 400 to 500 hours on a yacht’s engines and generators, not to mention unforeseen incidents that might occur in the middle of the ocean.”

MULTIPLE SHIPMENTS

Several of the other yachts on Yacht Express have shipped with DYT multiple times, including the 163’ (49.70 meter) motor yacht CASINO ROYALE, the 160’ (48.78 meter) ODESSA (four times each), the 161’ (49.09 meter) ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM (seven times), and the 132 foot (40.24 meter) motor yacht MISS ROSE.

DYT GOES TO THE MED

DYT had a second transport arrive from the Mediterranean this week. The ship Super Servant 4, arrived in Ft. Lauderdale on Friday from Palma de Mallorca, Spain, fully loaded with 24 yachts totaling $190,000,000 in value. Some of the sailboats were offloaded, bound for St. Thomas, USVI, in time for the Caribbean charter season.

Deadline Soon for Monaco Grand Prix Yacht Charter Berth Applications

Posted on

PRIME DOCKAGE DECREASING

Plenty of vessels remain available for the Monaco Grand Prix. In addition, Cannes Film Festival held around same time.  The window to secure prime dockage for The Superyacht Experience™ is rapidly closing.

HEAVY DEMAND IN SPRING

Dock masters in Cannes and Monaco set deadlines for acquiring a slip due each Spring.  This is due to heavy demand for the best berths.  In Cannes, dockage requests are for the quay of the Port de Cannes.  Particularly, directly adjacent to the entrance to the film festival.  In Monaco, ideal berths are stern-to along the quay. This area borders the street track at Port Hercule de Monaco.

MONACO GRAND PRIX and F1 RACE

Aerial photograph of monaco grand prix race track. To the left of the photo are people in the bleachers, track in the middle (no cars on it in picture), and to the right are large yachts docked next to the race track, behind barricades

“First-time special event charterers often don’t realize that Port Hercule blocks the coming and going of Superyachts during the multiple days of the Monaco Grand Prix,” says Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters. “We let our clients know it is more important to secure dockage early than it is to select a yacht.  Renting a yacht and being forced to anchor in the bay and use the tenders to get ashore to watch the race or attend the film festival is time-consuming and hampers the true superyacht experience of being right next to the action.”

APPLICATION DEADLINES

Berth application deadlines for 2016 are early.

  • Monaco Grand Prix.  Deadline for filing a berth application – 29 February, 2016.
  • Cannes Film Festival.  Deadline for berth applications – 4 March, 2016.

COMPLIMENTS OF 1-800 YACHT CHARTERS

Finally, consider a special event Côte d’Azur yacht charter this spring. Subsequently, 1-800 Yacht Charters offers complimentary paperwork processing of all berth filings and applications. It is a complicated process. We gladly handle it on your behalf.   This is all about relaxation for you and yours.  For more information, contact your 1-800 Yacht Charter team at info@1800yachtcharters.com

DISH SOAP BOTTLE — MADE OF WHAT????

Posted on

grey biodegradable dish and hand soap squirt bottle made from ocean plastic

BIODEGRADABILITY

Leave it to the folks at method®.  They make biodegradable cleaning products.  The company uses the power of  business to create positive social and environmental change.

The next item in their arsenal is unique.  method® packages their 2-in-1 dish + hand soap in bottles.  The bottles are made with recovered ocean plastic.

RECALL THE SEABIRDS

Readers of our blog might recall our September 15, 2015 post detailing the alarming rate at which seabirds are eating plastic.  Studies indicate 8 million metric tons of plastic dumped into our oceans each year. This plastic pollutes our environment. Additionally, it hurts our marine life populations.

HOW DOES METHOD® FUNCTION IN THIS?

method® hopes to raise awareness of the importance of reusing plastic.  The packaging is a blend of recovered ocean plastic and post-consumer recycled plastic.  Importantly, all plastic used to make the bottles was collected by method® employees!

COMPANY PRESIDENT COMMENTS

We provide private luxury yacht charter vacations.  Therefore, we know the importance of everyone doing their part – no matter how small that role might be.  In addition, our company President, Jana Sheeder, often reminds the 1-800 Yacht Charters team of the Starfish parable.  In her volunteer work, she often gives copies of the gratitudinous parable to her team.

– The Boy and the Starfish –

A man was walking along a deserted beach at sunset. As he walked he could see a young boy in the distance, as he drew nearer he noticed that the boy kept bending down, picking something up and throwing it into the water.

Time and again he kept hurling things into the ocean.

As the man approached even closer, he was able to see that the boy was picking up starfish that had been washed up on the beach and, one at a time he was throwing them back into the water.

The man asked the boy what he was doing, the boy replied, “I am throwing these washed up starfish back into the ocean, or else they will die through lack of oxygen. “But,” said the man, “You can’t possibly save them all, there are thousands on this beach, and this must be happening on hundreds of beaches along the coast. You can’t possibly make a difference.”

The boy looked down, frowning for a moment; then bent down to pick up another starfish, smiling as he threw it back into the sea. He replied, “I made a huge difference to that one!”

Excitement and Generosity Drive Private Yacht Charter Maven into 2016

Posted on

Happy New Year 1800yachtcharters logo
REBRANDED FOR GENEROSITY

About a year ago, we rebranded our business with a new focus, driven by our motto, “What if we built our business for Generosity?”

PERSONAL OBLIGATION AND SOCIAL GOOD

As leaders in arranging Mediterranean yacht charter vacations, along with private yacht holidays throughout Greece and the Caribbean, we recognized an opportunity, and an obligation, to grow our business for the  greater social good.

CHARTER A YACHT – CHANGE THE WORLD

Realizing you can rent a yacht from a number of qualified charter brokers around the world, we came up with a simple reason to book your yacht with us:   “Charter a Yacht and Change the World.”

Wow – what a year 2015 turned out to be!

HEAVILY EMBRACED

We are so proud of and honored by our clients – both repeat charterers and new customers.  They embraced our commitment to sustainability and generosity.

With enthusiasm, they chose our reusable water bottles in lieu of disposable plastic bottles (to help reduce plastic pollution in our oceans). When we told them a portion of their charter cost would be donated to charity in their name, and that we wanted their input in selecting the charity, they were quick to direct multiple donations to their favorite causes.

Jana Sheeder poses with Guy Harvey representative - both holding mooring reef buoys

MANY CHARITIES BENEFITED

Thanks to our clients, among MANY other things, we were able to

  • PROTECT REEFS.  Install multiple mooring buoys in Biscayne Bay.  This is the hub of the Florida yacht charter marketplace. The buoys protect coral reefs from damage from boat anchors. Additionally, they educate the public about the plight of coral reefs and historical underwater wrecks.
  • BUY MEDICAL EQUIPMENT.  Purchase a medical autoclave to sterilize surgical instruments for an international group that provides low-cost spay and neutering services for dogs, cats, rabbits, and other animals, enabling the medical team to alter many more pets and rescued animals each day.
  • SPAY AND NEUTER.  Pay for multiple spay/neuter surgeries for stray animals
  • DO ANIMAL RESCUE.  Pay for the rescue, transport, and housing of multiple animals (saving lives)
  • PAMPER WOUNDED VETERANS.  Defray the cost of multiple private luxury Virgin Islands yacht charter vacations. These occur on a 155 foot superyacht.  They support veteran wounded soldiers and their spouses.
  • PROTECT MANATEES.  Manatee (sea cow, dugong) conservation
  • SUPPORT POLLINATORS.   Repopulate bees, butterflies, and pollinators near natural hammocks and waterways
  • EDUCATE YOUTH.  Support classrooms who are teaching youth to protect the oceans and to use sustainable goods

Looking back, 2015 was a fantastic year.  The above items and so many others are just so exciting for us. Helping others is our passion.

WHAT LIES AHEAD

We enter 2016 with a number of new yachts and new destinations to offer our clients.  We have the brand new expedition yacht LEGEND, available for experiencing Greenland and Norway’s Fjords; and  the world’s largest sailing yacht for charter made of wood, the yacht LAMIMA, available in the exotic islands of Thailand and Burma.

WE ARE ENERGIZED

Our team is energized to share these yachts and destinations with our clients.  Each charter vacation gives our clients a chance to reconnect with family and friends.  Additionally, to embrace diverse cultures.  Finally, to rejuvenate mind, body, and spirit.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH US

Together, we will make a difference.   The Superyacht Experience™ by 1-800 Yacht Charters awaits you.  When you choose to live a generous life, you start to change…and so does the world around you!!!

Happy New Year,

Expect Tax Hike On Your Virgin Islands Yacht Charter Vacation

Posted on

Doing any boating this spring in the Virgin Islands?  If you are, plan on bringing a few extra bucks with you (or…take a money-saving tip from our company President, Jana Sheeder).

Photograph of Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters

This will be the first spring yachting season since the BVI enacted new legislation in 2017, increasing cruising taxes.

Here’s a breakdown of both the previous and current fees:

  • OLD (Seasonal Rates):  $.75 – $2 USD per person per day
  • NEW (Flat, Year-Round Rate): $6 USD per person per day

These rates apply to Virgin Islands yacht charter vessels registered and based in the British side of the territory.  “Foreign”  based yachts – meaning charter yachts coming in from other bases such as the US Virgin Islands and elsewhere — will also see an increase – from $4 to $16 per person per day.

HELPFUL TIPJana Sheeder, our company President, suggests,

“When planning your Virgin Islands yacht charter vacation, ask your charter broker to present yachts ‘based’ in the British (BVI) side of the territory if possible, as opposed to those based in St . Thomas (USVI) or elsewhere.  This small tip can save you 63% in extra cruising fees!!!”

A complete explanation of the tax increase is available on the official  British Virgin Islands website.

========================

This Spring, grab the family, leave the stress of work and school behind, and set sail for adventure in the nearby Bahamas or the Virgin Islands – both a short flight from the USA mainland.  Let 1-800 Yacht Charters Deliver the Superyacht Experience to you and your family.

Feadship Build Team, Owner Reflect On Motor Yacht JOY, New Superyacht

Posted on

THE ANSWER

FEADSHIP.  The answer is the radical 70 meter Feadship motoryacht JOY.

THE QUESTION

What do you get when…   Merge these items.  The vision of a new yacht owner who has never owned a boat.  The talents of Europe’s leading design studios.  Holland’s premier yacht builder.

This beauty launched in July. She is the latest creation by Feadship Royal Dutch Shipyards.  Superyacht JOY’s owner is a young American from New York.  She is not only the first yacht he has ever built.  She is the first yacht he has ever owned.

Joy yacht aft

COMPANY PRESIDENT COMMENTS

Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters, commented on how the owner’s lack of involvement in the yachting industry led to the creation of a unique vessel, unlike any other yacht in the 70 meter range: “You take an ambitious, youthful person, who has no pre-conceived bias as to what is expected when you design and build a superyacht, and you open the door to a fresh perspective on how a yacht can reflect the owner’s vision of what The Superyacht Experience can be.”

At the commencement of the project, the owner’s brief was simple and clear.  He brims with the optimism of youth.   “Create something totally different to every other yacht.”

FRESH APPROACH NEEDED

Recognizing the need to bring a fresh approach to the entire project, Feadship reached out to designers never before retained.  For the avant-garde exterior, they turned to the design studio of Bannenberg & Rowell.  Interior architecture is by Studio Indigo. Visually, superyacht JOY looks like no other. The wide walkways and flow between the interior and exterior spaces are without precedent on superyachts of this size. Dickie Bannenberg comments.  “You will see there are a lot of sculpted and rather complex surfaces that give the design a very unique look.”

Feadship JOY in the factory on launch day

THE CHALLENGES

Of course, crafting the  fascinating concave shapes in the yacht’s superstructure presented challenges to the builder.  The launch ceremony, as always, is grandiose.  Feadship director Jan-Bart Verkuy comments as always.  “JOY was an incredibly complicated boat to build with so many shapes and lines. We are very grateful to the fairing gods at Feadship. Also, to all the other craftsmen who have showcased their skills on such a unique boat.”

The proud new owner is equally pleased.  The results of the challenging build amaze.  “Studio Indigo has worked amazingly hard to produce such a gorgeous design with an incredible focus on detail. I’m also delighted with Bannenberg & Rowell’s sleek and progressive profile that reflects my desire to go forward into the future.”

THE NAME IS SYNONYMOUS WITH THE OWNER

Joy’s name reflects the owner’s joyous enthusiasm for life. M0reover, the opportunities for self-growth and exploration. These things that only time aboard a yacht can bring.  The owner reflected on a recent visit he made to New York’s Central Park. “When I saw the statue of Columbus it reminded me of how much joy this explorer felt when he first saw land. Today is my moment of joy as something I have long dreamt about has come to light. I’m incredibly happy and sincerely grateful to Feadship and all the other team members who made this happen.”

SHEEDER COMMENTS

Sheeder is thrilled with the wellness yacht charter potential of the yacht.

“The mix of spa-like amenities is amazing. From her Jacuzzi sun deck, to the massage room.  To the ocean-level beach club.  Where else can you exercise in a gym with panoramic views of the sea?  After which, rest and reflect in a minimalist interior with textures and colors? All of these designs to invoke feelings of tranquility and wellness?”

“In a sea of cookie-cutter designed boats, this is a transcendent yacht that will quickly set a new standard in the charter market.”

HOW TO RENT A YACHT

In conclusion, rates for a St Martin yacht charter in winter start at $600,000 per week.  Rates for summer, 2017 Monaco yacht charters start at €600,000 per week.  Charter superyacht JOY through 1-800 Yacht Charters at https://www.1800yachtcharters.com/book-now-contact-us/

Food For Naut: Caterer Finds Niche In Caribbean Yacht Charter Market

Posted on

WHERE DO YACHT CHEFS FIND INGREDIENTS?

You are the chef onboard a St. Barts yacht charter vessel, and your guests have asked you to create a lavish meal at sea with hard-to-find ingredients.  Where do you turn?

The answer is a specialty food supplier such as The Grateful Palate.

SOUTH FLORIDA CATERER

Since 2009, the South Florida-based caterer has offered provisions to discerning customers in the nautical industry.  From their 10,000 square foot distribution center in the Fort Lauderdale area, the provisioning company has always sourced and shipped food items, toiletries, and other premium goods to chefs and crew on mostly Caribbean and Bahamas yacht charter vessels.  They have also serviced private yachts as well.

Photograph of a beautiful entree on a plate, served in front of a water glass and wine glasses. An elegant dining table. Wine and water glasses are blurred in background of photo that is a yellow hueCUSTOM ORDERS ARE IMPORTANT

The company has always specialized in working with clients seeking custom orders of the highest-quality products.  Expectations have always been high, as charter chefs need items delivered fresh and on time to specific destinations.

CATERER IS NO MORE

But, sadly, The Grateful Palate is no more…..until the Fall of 2014, when they reopen in a larger facility so that they can continue servicing their discriminating clientele!
According to owner Meghan Leckey, being able to meet customers’ demands and deliver the goods resulted in a strong repeat clientele and the company’s continued growth. She said, that it was “…a growing business that [has] picked up substantially over the years.”

PASSOVER CELEBRATION

For Passover this year, Leckey’s company supplied a 200-foot Virgin Islands yacht charter vessel in St. Thomas with kosher meats, sodas, dry goods, and ceremonial supplies for the religious holiday. It also sent specialty kosher caviar flown in from Paris.
Leckey feels she understands the needs of the owners and crews of the world’s largest yachts
“The secrets of our success are, first of all, really understanding the amazing level of quality demanded by the wealthiest yacht owners in the world and, secondly, anticipating everything the crew will need for the trip,” said Leckey. “There is no other industry in the world that demands this level of attention to quality, from Beluga caviar to toilet paper (as the luxury yacht charter industry), and few other companies in the world that can meet those expectations.”

RELIANCE ON CUSTOMER REFERRALS

The company, as does 1-800 Yacht Charters, relies on customer referrals to spread the word. “We thrive on good remarks, and repeat business is key in this specialized industry,” Leckey said.

President of 1-800 Yacht Charters, Jana Sheeder, could not agree more.
WE LOVE REFERRALS!

Formula One Miami Grand Prix Yachting?

Posted on

UPDATE 10/16/19 –

Are you ready for the “Good News/Bad News” update?

GOOD NEWS:  Formula 1 announced an agreement in principle to hold a race in Miami, starting in 2021.

BAD NEWS:   Undoubtedly, the idea a Miami Grand Prix yacht charter seems lost, as the race will be held inland. Specifically, far from the ocean.

ORIGINAL IDEA

We were initially excited to see race organizers focusing on a circuit in downtown Miami, along Biscayne Bay.  This course allows superyachts to dock or anchor close to the course, similar to the layout of the Monaco Grand Prix.  Yacht charter clients and their guests watch the cars scream by from the comfort of their yacht’s sun deck.

There was considerable local opposition to holding a grand prix in downtown Miami.  Residents and local business owners voiced concerns about interruptions to business caused by the construction of the race track.

CHANGE OF LOCATION

Organizers then shifted their attention to building a road course on the grounds of Hard Rock Stadium – home to the NFL’s Miami Dolphins.  The stadium is miles inland from the ocean – in the community of Miami Springs.

This week, Formula 1 announced an agreement has been reached with real estate mogul and Dolphins owner Stephen Ross to establish a race in Miami, with the inaugural event in 2021.:

“We are thrilled to announce that Formula One and Hard Rock Stadium have reached an agreement in principle to host the first-ever Formula One Miami Grand Prix at Hard Rock Stadium,”

Computer drawing of bleachers at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. There are computer-generated people in the stands, and there are multiple colorful racecars zipping along a track on the left side of the screen and below the bleachers.

F1 Miami Grand Prix

AGREEMENT SUBJECT TO APPROVAL

The agreement is subject to approval by Miami-Dade County.

In their statement, F1’s Sean Bratches and Tom Garfinkel, the chief executive of Hard Rock Stadium, outlined the financial benefits the race will bring to Miami.

“With an estimate annual impact of more than $400m and 35,000 room nights, the F1 Miami Grand Prix will be an economic juggernaut for South Florida each year.”

TWITTER UPDATE BY F1

Garfinkel added to the announcement with a comment on Twitter.

“The world’s greatest racing @f1 has never been to S. Florida. Imagine people coming to this region from around the World in May. Multiple passing zones and world-class clubs and amenities.  Barcelona, Monaco…  Miami…  make it happen.”

The agreement specifically calls for Ross to fund construction of the estimated $40 million custom track and cover all race-related expenses.

WHAT ABOUT THE YACHTS?

Watching the race from the deck of a yacht charter vessel is now out of the question.  In spite of the location change, we are hopeful clients will still consider a Miami Grand Prix yacht charter – as a “Destination Event.”

DESTINATION YACHT CHARTER IDEA

The yachts can serve as platforms for corporate hospitality!  Helicopters and private transportation in use to shuttle clients and guests to Hard Rock Stadium for the race.

The original post below………..

F1 RACING COMES TO MIAMI?

Formula 1 is here.  Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines.  Captains, prepare to cast off!

Formula One is scouting Miami, Florida as a site for a Grand Prix race.  F1, or FIA Formula One World Championship, is the foremost auto racing league.  Envision Miami. First, dozens of superyachts lining the course.  Second, thousands of thrilled spectators on yachts to watch see the action.

Four race cars on a winding street beside the ocean. Lalique and Black Label banners behind the cars as they whiz by.

BACKGROUND

Per the Miami Herald, F1 execs met with Miami mayor and government officials in November.  They discussed racing logistics for an annual event along Biscayne Bay, through downtown Miami.

Events Director for city of Miami, Vicente Betancourt, says the goal is to add Miami to the Formula 1 season in 2020. “It’s like the Super Bowl of auto racing,” said Betancourt. “Hopefully we can make it happen.”

WHO WILL ANNOUNCE THE RACE?

Will the amazing Michael Buffer possibly be the announcer for a Miami Grand Prix Formula One race?

WHO WILL DRIVE RACE CARS?

Wouldn’t you love to see professional race car drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Bottas, Vettel, Raikkonen, or Verstappen driving?  High-tech Mercedes, Ferraris, Alfa Romeos, and Maseratis on the Sunny downtown Miami streets?

SPONSORSHIPS

Equally important, what a wonderful boost for the South Florida economy.  A Grand Prix Formula One race could provide corporate sponsorships from such companies as Amazon.  (Jeff Bezos, graduated high school in Miami, in the same class as our company President, Jana Sheeder). Additional sponsors are lining up. For instance,

GROWING THE GLOBAL AUDIENCE

From April through November, the Formula One’s series is comprised of 20 races in cities around the world. Those cities include Singapore, Budapest, Sao Paulo, Dubai, and Monaco.   There are 15 road courses and five courses laid out on city streets.

Formula 1 has new ownership (Liberty Media) and looks to expand its U.S. presence.  F1 has a massive fan base across the globe; however, it lags behind other sports in the United States, like football, basketball, and NASCAR.  Soccer is as popular as F1 racing. The only United States Grand Prix race is in Austin, Texas right now. Chase Carey, Liberty Media’s CEO of the Formula 1 Group, says he wants another race in America.  An event in Miami, or possibly Las Vegas or New York, has been publicly discussed.

Carey wants to see F1 grab a foothold in “destination cities” like New York, Los Angeles, Miami, or Las Vegas.  As a result, this would create a week-long celebration capable of attracting people from all over the world.

WHY MIAMI?

Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters believes Miami is a natural fit for a F1 event.

“Of all the races held annually by F1, the two premier events are staged in Monaco and Abu Dhabi,” says Sheeder.  “Both locations have courses along the waterfront, and thousands of spectators enjoy the race and the festivities from the decks of dozens of luxury yachts.  The Miami Grand Prix would duplicate that unique setting, as the course would pass through downtown Miami, along our beautiful waterfront area – and we have many superyachts that already make South Florida their home port.”

According to AutoGuide.com, Formula One filed on November 1st for a new trademark on a race event in Miami (as well as Las Vegas and New York). The next day, Sean Bratches, Formula One’s director of commercial operations, came to Miami, with his track engineers, and met with Mayor Francis Suarez and checked  out the city streets near the downtown area, along the waterfront. Betancourt, who has been in communications with F1 since May said nothing was finalized. “We’ve got to see if it works and what it would cost them to actually bring it out. I think the ball is pretty much in their court.”

MIAMI BACKGROUND

Sheeder points out the idea of a major road race and spectator yachts is not new for the city. In the 1980’s, the Miami Grand Prix was a major annual event (but not affiliated with the F1 series).

“Private luxury yacht charter vessels would line up, stern-to the seawall in the area that is now the Bayside Marketplace, and spectators would watch the race from the deck of their superyachts. In the evening, many of the yachts would host private parties for the charterers, as well as the owners, drivers, and corporate sponsors of the racing teams.”

MOVE OVER, MONACO!

Sheeder is optimistic a new F1 week-long race event will become a marquee attraction for South Florida.

“Assuming the financing and logistics make sense for Formula One, a corporate hospitality Miami Grand Prix  yacht charter could easily rival the excitement of a Monaco Grand Prix yacht charter or an Abu Dhabi yacht charter.  Yes, Monaco has the edge thanks to many decades of exposure, but Miami could make a big splash.  We have the best weather, and the largest inventory of luxury yacht charter vessels anywhere in the world.  Throw in the sexy appeal of nearby South Beach with world-famous hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, and celebrities, and Miami is a world-class big-event town.”

Where else can you go to an upscale event, wearing little more than sandals and a bathing suit, where the best “seat” in the house is in an on deck Jacuzzi on a private luxury yacht???

Welcome to Miami! Bienvenidos a Miami!
