One of the first yachts to commit to the London games is the 75 meter motor yacht LEANDER. The massive superyacht will be available from the evening of the 27th July.

Yacht Leander accommodates twelve guests. She has ten luxurious staterooms, including two master suites on the main deck. At 62 meters (203ft) in length, the massive sail yacht ATHOS enters her second Greek yacht charter season as the largest sailing vessel for hire in the Greek islands.
Designed by Andre Hoek and built by Holland Jachtbouw, yacht ATHOS is registered as the world’s largest privately-owned schooner and the most  technologically sophisticated classic sail yacht on the seas.
Accommodations are available for 10 guests in 3 doubles staterooms, plus 2 twins (convertible)  cabins.  A captain and crew compliment of 8 are on hand to attend to the guests as well as the safe operation of the superyacht.

The yacht’s 11-meter beam (the width of the vessel) creates an unprecedented amount of volume. The interior includes a luxurious owners’ suite, with private cockpit and deckhouse.  The main deckhouse offers a formal dining area as well as an entertainment lounge.

Unique points of interest:

  • A centerboard keel allowing her to access shallow waters that other vessels of her size cannot contemplate
  • Amazing deck space and luxurious accommodation impressing any guests invited on board
  • Large assortment of watertoys are available, including an inflatable flying boat

Charter rates begin at  180,000 EUROS per week, plus running expenses.

Currently in position for London Olympics yacht charters, the vessel returns to Greek waters in early August, 2012.

London Olympics photograph. Picture shows olympic rings over the top of the photo, with London Bridge in the background. The harbor is full of boats, both large and small.

SailAway is pleased to announce additional superyacht dockage in London.  They are available at ExCel London for the London Olympics.  These are in addition to those at The Marina at the London Docklands,  ExCel is one of the 2012 Olympic Games venues.  These berths are beside the ExCel Centre at London’s Royal Docks. Charter guests there have a convenient base for the duration of the Olympic Games.

We were thrilled in February to announce the availability of dockage at The Docklands,”  says Jana Sheeder, President of SailAway Yacht Charter Consultants, as well as 1-800 Yacht Charters.  “Now we can offer additional accommodations, specifically to largest yachts, at the Royal Docks.  We understand the adjacent ExCel Centre will host a variety of Olympic events. Those events include Boxing, Wrestling, Fencing, Taekwondo, and Table Tennis.

London Olympics Dockage Setup

Infrastructure is in place to provide an on-site berth manager.  The setup also includes restricted public access, a dedicated parking lot for automobiles, and concierge services.

Sheeder expects heavy demand for these prime berths. She encourages yacht owners to reserve their berths right away.

In addition to Her Majesty’s Jubilee Flotilla in June, I can’t imagine a more exciting time to bring a superyacht to London!”

London Olympics Yacht Charters – 1 Year 2 Go

Photograph of the China Olympics Stadium - Birds Nest - with fireworks shooting off from within the stadium

The Olympics.  The pomp.  The circumstance.  A graduation of sorts.  Once again, we are glued to our televisions.  Fifteen thousands (15,000) talented Chinese performers on the field of the “Bird’s Nest.”  China kicked off the Opening Ceremony for the 2008 Olympic games.  Amazing.

Here we are again.  One year before the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic games

Meanwhile, the notion of renting a yacht for the London games is considered.  In other words, marina reservations are well under way.  Additional berths have been added to accommodate the expected visitors arriving by superyacht.

“We are very excited to see such levels of interest from yachts so far,” says Mark Upton, Director of MGMT. “We were always confident yachts would book for the Olympics but expected this to happen later in the year once the summer charter season ended. We have made a huge effort to keep the industry informed of our concierge services and also the fact that the popular tickets, hospitality, and services will sell out very quickly. It seems our efforts are paying off and the bookings are being made early to ensure visiting yachts receive the full benefit of all the services available.”

“One thing is certain.” says Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters and SailAway Yacht Charter Consultants.

“For the month of August, 2012, London will be the luxury mega yacht charter capital of the world.  Based on the early inquiries we have received, we estimate at least 30 superyachts will be in London and on the Thames for the Olympics next summer.”

London Olympics Yacht Charters 2012

Photograph of london 2012 olympics logoLONDON OLYMPICS

It is estimated that London’s roughly 120,000 hotel rooms are nowhere near enough.  This problem exists for the 2012 Olympic Games.  A lack of rooms means many visitors will be forced to stay in the English countryside.

Savvy travelers, however, can choose an option that will put them within walking distance of the main stadium.  For instance, they select a private yacht.

The Marina at the London Docklands plays host to dozens of the newest and largest motoryachts in the world during the Olympics.  The facility is two miles from Olympic Park and other venues for the games.

The Docklands accommodates boats from small bareboats to British navy ships and international cruise ships. Megayachts visit the marina, thus, dockmaster and his team are prepared to handle large vessels.

Gareth Stephens is the dock manager for British Waterways.  The agency oversees England’s waterways.  He reports multiple berths are ready for the weeks immediately preceding the summer 2012 Olympics. According to Stephens,
“The Docklands can house yachts up to 170 meters (558 feet) with a 23-meter beam and eight-meter draft (75 feet and 26 feet, respectively).”

The number of available slips will ultimately depend on the sizes of vessels that make reservations for the games. Says Stephens,

“We are looking to accommodate a mix of cruise vessels and superyachts.”

Minimum dockage reservation period is 21 days.  London Olympics run from July 27 to August 12.  The required minimum booking period is July 24 to August 14. Stays starting before and/or ending after the minimum period are available.

Charges for a slip or quayside space depend on the length of a yacht. Daily rates are £1,000 (approx $1,547) for yachts under 25 meters (82 feet) to £11,000 (est $17,000) for vessels in the 125-150 meter (410- to 492-foot) range.

London Docklands offers full marina services and facilities. For instance, water, sewage, fuel bunkering, and garbage disposal. It also has riverboat and “Tube” connections.  The marina is then highly convenient for Olympic events and all major London attractions.

Queen’s Jubilee Flotilla to Set Sail in June 2012

Posted on

Queens Jubilee Flotilla photo. London harbor. Yachts and sailboats and colorful atmosphere under the London Bridge.

Prior to the London Olympics in 2012, another special event exists.  A once-in-a-lifetime yachting spectacle in London wants you to participate. Truly a bucket list adventure

The Queen of England leads a flotilla of boats and yachts.  They present the Thames Diamond Jubilee Royal River Pageant on Sunday June 3rd 2012 to celebrate her 60 years on the throne.

For example, over 1,000 boats and yachts of all sizes are expected to participate.

It is touted as one of the largest flotillas assembled on the Thames.  Approximately 30,000 people waving flags and cheering Her Majesty the Queen attend.  In addition, rowed boats, working boats, and pleasure vessels join luxury mega yacht charter vessels on the river.

Participation including

  • Beautifully dressed vessels – streamers, Union Jacks, fireworks
  • Crews and passengers in uniforms and fancy outfits
  • The armed forces
  • Fire Department
  • Police Department
  • Rescues
  • Historic boats
  • Wooden launches
  • Old steam vessels

Taking place just 6 week prior to the opening ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics, the yachting spectacle will be enhanced with music barges, boats spouting water cannons, and pyrotechnic barges launching daytime fireworks. There will also be specially-constructed elements like a floating belfry – its chiming bells answered by those from riverbank churches.

Thames piers, riverside roads and bridges will be closed to traffic.  At the same time, 40 to 50 giant screens will be erected along the flotilla route.  The public can also enjoy the pageant from multiple vantage points to the left and to the right of the river. The flotilla concludes at Battersea Park.  The conclusion includes music and artist-led Jubilee-themed entertainment.

The Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant celebrates Her Majesty’s sixty years of service to the British Commonwealth by bringing the Thames to life.  Pageants on the Thames date back to 1453. The River to include superyacht vessels and boats, clanging bells, and tooting horns will recall its royal heritage and its heyday as a working, bustling river.

Participate in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Royal River Pageant this year.  In addition, secure a yacht and berth for the London Olympic games!  Your choice…  Contact our destination specialists HERE right now to reserve a yacht.

Special Rate | Watch Ocean Race On Sailboat

Posted on

Photograph of sailboats in a race. There is a dinghy with 2 people in it driving alongside the fast sailboats. The sails of the boats are full.

Alicante, Spain is the starting point for the 2011-2012 Volvo Ocean Race, and luxury sailing charter vessel PHILANDER wants you to be part of the action.

The 40 meter yacht is offering a special charter rate to watch the opening ceremonies and the start of Leg 1 of the world’s most famous round-the-globe sailing race.

The 39,000 mile (72,000k), nine-month odyssey pits man against nature in an ultimate test of courage and stamina across treacherous open seas. During the race, crews will experience life at the extreme: no fresh food is permitted on board, so they will live off freeze-dried meals.  Temperature will vary from -5 to +40 degrees Celsius, and the sailors will only take one change of clothes. The crew will trust their lives to the boat and the skipper to survive hunger, sleep deprivation, and whatever nature hurls their way.

In stark contrast, the opening festivities rival the atmosphere of the Cannes Film Festival and offer a chance to meet the crews, see the yachts, and celebrate the sport of sailing.  From October 14 to November 5, a jam-packed three-week period will offer an in-port race, a legends regatta, a pro-am race, and the start of Leg 1.

Aerial photograph of sailboat named Philanderer, underway. Her sails are full. She is sailing toward the lower left side of the photo. She has a dark hull, light deck, and white cabin and structure. Her sails are white.

Sail yacht Philanderer is a 40 meter (131′) yacht with guest accommodations for 10 and deck space for 18 for cocktail parties and social events.  Her professional crew of 7 will attend to every need during the charter in Alicante.

For the event, the yacht is offering a rate of  €35,000 for 5 days minimum between October 29th and November 5th. The rate includes the yacht, crew, and use of onboard recreational amenities, such as the ship’s gym and sauna.  Of course, guests will also enjoy the best seats in the house for watching the racing action up close!  All expenses (meals, bar, etc) are extra.

2012 is the year of special yachting events in Europe – from film festivals,  to Grand Prix Formula One auto races, to the summer Olympic games.

Don’t forget  – advance reservations for London Olympics Yacht Charters should be made by January, 2012.
