Back in 2009, when motor yacht SEALYON was first launched (her name at the time was yacht CANDYSCAPE II), we remember saying, “This yacht has, ‘it’“ – that exceptional fusion of glamour, design, and quality. As it turned out, we were not alone in our praise of the Espen Øino-designed superyacht, built by Italy’s Viareggio Super Yachts. Right out of the gate, the yacht scored a 2010 World Superyacht Award as the Best Displacement Motor Yacht, 500GT-1,299GT.
Interior Design As Sweet As Candy
That recognition was followed up in 2011 with a win at the International Yacht Awards in the category of “Power Yachts over 60 metres” for her outstanding interior design by Candy & Candy of London. One judge referred to the interior as, “An eclectic collection of detailed decoration using veneers, fabrics, leathers, metals and stones to create a truly unique floating wonder.”
Every Picture Tells A Story
Fast-forward to 2018, and the 202ft super yacht SEALYON, ex Candyscape II is still as impressive as the day she was first launched. T. Debuse, who oversees the yacht charter management for the vessel’s owner says, “(charter yacht) SEALYON is undoubtedly a yacht that has fulfilled its mission statement with the highest build quality and superbly comfortable, beautifully decorated and detailed interior.” DeBuse also thinks the yacht’s new video captures the splendor of the yacht. “They say a picture paints a 1000 words – the video of Sealyon paints a picture indeed!”

Everyone knows that picking house paint colors isn’t just difficult, it’s terrifying! Pick colors that are blah, and your house will seem featureless and flat. But if the colors you pick are too bold, they might overwhelm the architecture…and upset your neighbors.
The best colors will highlight the most beautiful features of your home. Skillful use of color can even disguise design flaws, boosting the, “curb appeal” and market value of your home.
Finding that magic color combination also holds true for luxury mega yacht charter vessels.
The first thing a potential client sees when preparing to rent a private yacht is the exterior. The “dock appeal” must catch the attention of the prospect and pique his curiosity to see the interior as well.
Traditionally, yachts were painted simply – clean, bright white. With modern technology, new paints and colors that resist fading and the harsh marine environment have been developed. Now, the only limit to the exterior color scheme of a yacht is the owner’s imagination.
Here’s a sampling of unique paint schemes and colors on some of the newest and largest yachts around the world:
QUITE ESSENTIAL – With a striking color scheme of Oyster White and Merlot Red, developed by the owner in close collaboration with Dobroserdov Design, Heesen motor yacht Quite Essential will certainly not pass unnoticed in the Mediterranean yacht charter fleet. It is said the red color was inspired by the owner’s love for Merlot wine!
SLIPSTREAM – celebrity owner, former American Idol judge, and X-Factor creator Simon Cowell, is known for wearing simple, dark colored T-shirts against pale blue jeans. The classic deep blue hull and gun-blue superstructure of Cowell’s yacht Slipstream sets the scene for a truly nautical and contemporary super yacht.
BLACK and WHITE – the distinctive black and white theme onboard motor yacht BLACK AND WHITE is based on the ancient yin yang symbol, a Chinese sign for the mixing of complementary opposites. Launched in 2010, this magnificent Sunseeker 34 yacht mixes not only color, but also high-end amenities and comfort with performance and power.
MISTER JINGLES – the global debt crisis has focused great attention on the value of gold. The color gold draws nearly as much attention, especially on a yacht painted stem to stern in this shiny, metallic palette. Designed and built by Italy’s Fashion Yachts, motor yacht Mister Jingles debuted as a luxury yacht charter vessel in 2009. The metallic performance yacht boasts a 35 knot cruising speed – perfect for quickly getting from one famous port to another.
AURELIA – recently, we profiled yachts named after race horses by their loving owners. It seems another type of race fan – Formula 1 cars – is just as proud to display his passion on a yacht. The 37-Meter Heesen motor yacht Aurelia boast an unusual color scheme from Dobroserdov Design, inspired by the owner’s passion for racing cars. Zoom Zoom Zoom!

We’ve all seen the images – a silhouette of a sailing yacht, lying at anchor near a secluded beach, the sun setting in the background; or the massive superyachts docked side-by-side in a marina along the Côte d’Azur. It’s not hard to imagine you and your family inserted in those yachting images, enjoying la belle vie.
Is it realistic to think you can afford a holiday at sea on a private yacht?
To answer that question, let’s start with understanding exactly what a yacht charter is all about…
If you’ve ever stayed at a resort, you’ve already experienced the premise of a yachting vacation on a crewed yacht. From accommodations, to meals, activities and amenities, everything you and your family need are available in one location. The biggest difference – your location “moves” when you charter a yacht!
Take for example a Virgin Islands yacht charter vessel. While other travelers stay ashore and see the same view from their hotel window, each day you can wake up and experience a new location, as your yacht cruises from island to island. Forget a virtual online slideshow – this is the real deal!
While onboard, you’ll be pampered by a crew of trained professionals – from a captain to navigate, to a host/hostess to serve you, and a chef to prepare your meals. The actual number of crew depends on the size of yacht you charter and the level of service you request.
Just like the resort, the yacht offers accommodations, areas to relax and socialize, and a wide variety of recreational toys to enjoy – like snorkel gear, kayaks, and paddleboards. The larger yachts offer a wider variety of toys and amenities, including waverunners, cinema rooms, exercise equipment – even ondeck Jacuzzi spas.
There is one more distinguishing difference when compared to a resort – it’s completely private – only you and your family and friends and your crew are onboard – no one else!
Again, the comparison to seaside resorts best illustrates the locations available for enjoying a yachting holiday – if it’s on the ocean, chances are there are yachts in the area available for hire!
Here’s a partial list of the most popular destinations for chartering a crewed yacht:
If you guessed that we would once again go back and look at a resort for the answer – you’re right!
The price options for enjoying a crewed yacht directly compare to the prices of staying at a resort. Basic resorts in popular destinations can be very affordable for a family vacation, and so too can be the cost of a private yacht charter. Conversely, ultra exclusive resorts in posh settings charge premium rates – as do the most luxurious private yachts.
To put this into realistic perspective, here’s a sample of yachts and their prices:
The owners of charter yachts rely on a network of professional yacht charter brokers to serve as the go-between for owners and anyone interested in securing a yacht for hire. 1-800 Yacht Charters has been delivering The Superyacht Experience to their clients for over 30 years, has been recognized by Forbes as “Best Private Cruise,” and maintains a database of more than 500 crewed charter yachts around the world.
ONLY 1-800 Yacht Charters offers an industry first, Best Price Guarantee and makes a donation to your preferred charity, in your name, when you make your reservation. We also promote reusable water bottles and eco-tote bags for your use after you return home so that you can help to protect the oceans and the environment.

Word recently came in that one of the largest private luxury yacht charter vessels in the market was just sold.
The 85 meter (279 foot) spectacular Lurssen motor yacht SOLANDGE has been sold. The deal closed on March 22, and the new owner has already taken delivery. The buyer was represented by Moran Yacht and Ship, and terms of the sale have not been released. She was listed for sale by Moran at an asking price of €155,000,000 (yes, boys and girls, that IS 6 zeros!)
The massive yacht was scheduled to participate in the Palm Beach International Boat Show, March 23 -26, 2017. Needless to say, the new owner saw no need to put the yacht on display, instead choosing to enjoy his new watertoy.
Launched in 2013, Solandge Lurssen motor yacht features the sleek exterior styling of naval architect Espen Øino, with a rich, rather eclectic interior design by Aileen Rodriguez.
“She is an amazing luxury yacht charter vessel,” says Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters. “Imagine a floating resort with a gym, spa, saunas, and cinema. There’s even a DJ booth on the party deck, and a 5.5 meter swimming pool on the aft. Best of all, this floating spa is private – only you and your family and friends are onboard!”
Yachtsmen and -women the world over want to know — will we be waving goodbye to Lurssen yacht Solandge…or will she remain in the charter fleet??? Is it Adios – or just Hasta luego? Is it Tchau – or just Ate mais, beijo? Is it Ciao — or Addio?
Often, a new owner will remove the yacht from the private yacht charter marketplace, so he and his family and friends can enjoy her for extended cruising.
“For now, she remains listed for hire, but that could change,” says Sheeder. “Of course, for the benefit of our clients, we certainly hope she remains in the marketplace. Only a handful of the world’s largest yachts are available for hire, and motoryacht Solandge stands at or near the top of that elite list.”
Solandge accommodates 12 guests in a 7 elegant stateroom configuration. Her weekly rate is published at €1,000,000 plus running expenses. Her current schedule has her available for hire in the Caribbean through Spring, then in the Mediterranean for the summer.

GO AHEAD AND ASK…
Hardly a week goes by that someone doesn’t ask us one of two common questions about charter yacht 11-11:
What does the name mean?
Why is the bow flat?
WHAT’S IN A NAME?
As to the first question, the name has a dual meaning. Primarily, motor yacht 11-11 is named for the birthday of the yacht owner’s daughter. The secondary meaning relates to numerology, where some believe that events linked to the time 11:11 appear more often than can be explained by chance or coincidence. With some New Age philosophers assigning mystical powers to the numbers, seeing 11:11 pop up on a clock has morphed into a whimsical moment to simply, “make a wish.”
Explaining the reason for the yacht’s unique bow is quite pedestrian and far less ethereal. It is simply a matter of physics. Measuring 63-meters, Benetti yacht 11-11 is part of the Italian manufacturer’s custom line of superyachts. The distinctive plumb bow, also referred to as an axe bow, was added for hydrodynamic efficiency. In laymen’s terms, the vertical bow avoids upward push from waves when the yacht is underway. By keeping the bow down, this result is a surprisingly stable ride, as compared to yachts with traditional, angled bows…
The award-wining yacht (she took home top honors at the 2016 World Superyacht Awards as Best Displacement motor yacht of 500 GT to 1,299 GT) with the cute name and unique look, accommodates up to 12 private luxury yacht charter guests. Her layout boasts not one, but two owner suites – a full beam cabin on the main deck, as well as a second on the upper deck.

“Hey, 1-800 Yacht Charters. I saw ‘Serene’ while i (sic) was on vacation in France last summer. Beautiful yacht! Can you tell me who owns her?”
Bob C. Atlanta, GA
Thanks for asking, Bob. There’s an old saying, “I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you!” LOL
All kidding aside, one of the alluring benefits of luxury yacht charters is the element of privacy. We carefully guard the identity of our charter clients and their guests – both for reasons of safety and discretion.
The same discipline applies to the owners of the yachts we offer for charter, as most prefer to remain anonymous.
That being said, certain details were recently released to the public, so now we CAN share that information with you:
In an article on October 15th, 2016, the New York Times ran a story entitled, “Rise of Saudi Prince Shatters Decades of Royal Tradition.” The story disclosed last year, Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s deputy crown prince, “…saw a yacht he couldn’t resist.”
That yacht is the 440 foot motor yacht SERENE…
The article reads, “While vacationing in the south of France, Prince bin Salman spotted a 440-foot yacht floating off the coast. He dispatched an aide to buy the ship, the Serene, which was owned by Yuri Shefler, a Russian vodka tycoon. The deal was done within hours, at a price of approximately 500 million euros (roughly $550 million today), according to an associate of Mr. Shefler and a Saudi close to the royal family. The Russian moved off the yacht the same day.”
Built in 2011, Fincantieri yacht SERENE is the largest yacht ever launched in Italy and features more than 4,000 square meters of interior space spread across seven decks, plus two helipads and a hangar. At the time of her launch, she was the 9th largest yacht in the world and the largest yacht available for charter.
Each year, the newest yachts get bigger and bigger. As of mid-2016, the yacht had “dropped” to #13 on the list world’s largest yachts.
So there you have it, Bob – now you know the names of BOTH the former and current owner of superyacht SERENE!
