For many people, Presidents’ Day in the United States goes pretty much unnoticed. Many view it as a day off from work. Others see it as a day for “President’s Day Sales!”
Have you ever stopped to think about this important day of recognition? And in addition, just what it means?
WHAT IS PRESIDENTS DAY?
Each year, President’s Day is celebrated on the third Monday in February. Established in 1885, its creation is in recognition of the first President of the United State of America. Specifically, George Washington. Presidents’ Day is now properly and popularly viewed. It is the day to celebrate all U.S. Presidents.
GOOGLE SEARCH
A quick scan of the internet shows that some people feel disdain about our Presidents. In specific, both past and present. I did a Google search under the keywords, “Is Presidents’ Day Important?” Some chains in forums and chat rooms were a litany of vitriol and cynicism.
WHY IS THE DAY SIGNIFICANT?
I think many of us miss the point of why this day should be significant. For me, it is less a celebration of the actual people who became US Presidents. It is more the recognition of a basic freedom we hold as Americans. Noteably, the right to freely choose and elect our leaders.
RESPECT FOR LEADERSHIP
Whether you like or dislike a particular President’s actions and policies, we as free citizens publicly and openly choose our Presidents (and all of our elected officials). This is a sacred right we hold as Americans – one that brave men and women in our armed forces are willing to lay down their lives to protect.
WHAT TO DO ON PRESIDENTS DAY?
This Presidents’ Day, I’ll probably do what I usually do – attend the final day of the Miami Boat Show, inspecting private luxury yacht charter vessels to present to our clients for their 2016 vacations. I will, however, pause for a moment, and give a nod to our Presidents for their service to our country, and of course, I’ll be wearing my American Flag pin over my heart as a reminder…
More importantly, I’ll reflect on the more than 200 years of opportunities that we as United States citizens have gathered openly, and without fear, to freely cast our ballots and elect a President to lead our nation. We are so fortunate to live in these great United States.
If you owned a 228 foot luxury yacht charter vessel, would you paint it deep blue or polar white?
If you owned the massive motor yacht SHERAKHAN, the answer is — BOTH!
ALL ABOUT SHERAKHAN
Originally built in 1965, the current owner bought the commercial vessel in 2005 and undertook a massive refit – basically gutting the entire ship from bow to stern and rebuilt her into a yacht charter vessel with accommodations for 26 guests (most yachts are limited to 12 or fewer). The full rebuild featured all new plumbingelectrical systems, air conditioning, and generators. It also included a beautiful new paint job – a deep blue hull, with a white superstructure.
WHAT IS THE LATEST NEWS?
Fast forward to 2017, and the owner decided it was time for another refit. All new decks were installed, along with new soft fabrics throughout the guests areas and cabins, and a complete overhaul of all major equipment in the engine room.
As he did in 2005, the owner completely repainted the superyacht charter vessel – this time a clean, crisp white, with subtle grey accents.
CAN I CHARTER THIS YACHT?
The expedition style yacht is available in the Caribbean and will remain there through April. In the summer, the yacht will relocate to the Mediterranean (e.g. Monaco yacht charter or Grand Prix formula 1 races, etc.) for the summer.
WE WANT YOUR THOUGHTS
So what do you think? Do you think she looks better in blue or in white?
The Palumbo superyacht facility hosts one of the most famous, and certainly the largest yacht charter vessel in the world. The 133 meter yacht SERENE visits. She stuns — her exterior design and engineering by Espen Oeino and interior styling by Reymond Langton Design.
She experienced extensive renovations in the past two years. The Palumbo refit and repair yard offers a 160 meter graving dock. In addition, a covered 140 meter dock, and more than 400 meters of quay for alongside repairs. Visiting yacht crews can enjoy various on-site amenities. For instance, an on-site gym and game room. The Malta airport is also just a short drive away. It offers direct flights to most major cities in Europe.
SEASON DRAWS TO CLOSE
As the charter season draws to a close, the Palumbo yard is seeing an increase in activity, with Fincantieri yacht SERENE just one of several superyachts to have confirmed bookings at the refit and service center.

Every time I lay eyes on Lürssen yacht DILBAR, one word always comes to mind – Wow!
There’s just no other way to put it – she’s a biggie.
WHERE IS SHE MOORED?
Currently moored in her home berth in Antibes along the French Riviera, the 156 meter superyacht cuts a stunning, massive silhouette at night, backlit by her massive array of underwater blue LED lights.
HOW BIG IS SHE?
So just how big is big? Well, in terms of length, she’s not the largest – that title currently belongs to another Lurssen, the 180 meter motor yacht AZZAM. Where DILBAR takes the cake is in terms of her volume. In layman’s terms – she’s a brick house, a la Kim Kardashian (sans the incessant, annoying selfies)!
In terms of gross tonnage, she’s enormous – 15,917 GT, with dimensions measuring 156 meters in length, a stocky 23 meter beam and drawing an incredible 6 meters below the waterline.
WHAT MAKES HER STAND OUT?
Of course, you need all that volume to fit her recordbreaking features, including a 180 cubic meter swimming pool, believed to be the largest on any yacht (certainly larger than on any private luxury yacht charter vessels)…and a 30,000 KW electric diesel power plant, claimed to be the most powerful ever fitted to a superyacht.
Here’s a cool fact – the combined length of the cabling on board stretches 1,100 kilometres, over an impressive 3,800 square meter guest spaces! How would you like to be the cable guy who gets called when the cable TV is on the fritz??? Yikes!
