Earlier this month, we blogged about the 70-meter motor yacht SHERAKHAN, an expedition yacht charter vessel making her way to the Antarctic.
We received an update today from Sioned Williams, one of the yacht owner’s assistants:
“Heading ever further south, with temperatures dropping and the number of icebergs sighted increasing daily, SHERAKHAN arrived in Grytviken yesterday. Having been cleared in by customs, and all on board received the South Georgia stamp in their passports, the guests and crew visited the local museum in Grytviken where they met all the locals – all 20 of them!”
While in South Georgia, the charter guests and crew were treated to what Williams described as, “…having witnessed the awesome sight of a colony of around half a million King Penguins and thousands of fur seals on the beach.”
Next stop on the itinerary – the superyacht is now cruising towards St. Andrew’s Bay, making way towards the Antarctic Sounds.
Motor yacht Sherakhan offers accommodations for up to 26 passengers in thirteen staterooms. She is available from March 1, in Ushuaia or the Falklands. Panama yacht charter and Costa Rica yacht charter vacations are also available beginning in late March, as the vessel heads north to the Caribbean.

While many yacht owners are content to offer their yachts for hire in the tried-and-true winter cruising ground of the Caribbean, Jan Verkerk is always looking for new destinations in the hopes of enticing potential charter customers to explore land and sea far from the beaten path.
This year, Jan has committed his 70 meter expedition-style yacht, M/Y SHERAKHAN to Antarctica.
Earlier this week, we received an email from the yacht’s manager: “Motor yacht SHERAKHAN has just crossed the equator on her way to Antarctica! (She) will arrive in the Falkland Islands on the 6th of February to start her Antarctica adventure.”
One of the largest yachts available for rent, the 70 meter SHERAKHAN offers accommodations for up to 26 passengers in thirteen staterooms.
If Antarctica is too remote, Jan is open to accepting trips along the east or west coast of South America, or Panama, or even head back to the ever-popular islands of St Barts and St Martin to accept a traditional Caribbean yacht charter booking.
Her rates begin at €350,000 EUROS per week, plus expenses.

From gymnasiums, helicopters and onboard Kaleidescape movie theaters, today’s modern superyacht has every affluent amenity imaginable. Yet the most requested amenity by prospective charter customers remains one of the oldest, time-tested features: the on-deck hot tub.
Is there a better way to unwind each night during a yachting vacation than enjoying a warm soak under the stars?
The benefits of hot tub hydrotherapy are well-documented – warm water therapy can promote relaxation, stress reduction and pain relief. It’s also a fun way to spend quality time with your travel companions – sipping wine and planning your next day’s adventures.
In the early years of the charter industry, most ondeck tubs were portable tubs – the same as those found in many homes. Today’s ondeck megayacht hydrotherapy tubs are permanent, built-in amenities, designed by naval architects and molded into the yacht’s superstructure.
Today we take a look at five of the best hydrotherapy tubs on five equally spectacular charter yachts:
The 228-foot motor yacht SHERAKHAN has one of the largest sundeck hot tubs aboard any charter yacht. The tub features an opaque bottom, allowing natural light to filter into the two-story dining room directly below.
Benetti yacht charter enthusiasts like to brag about the hot tub onboard the 196ft motor yacht ST. EKATERINA (formerly motor yacht XANADU). The large tub is within easy viewing distance of a two-way cinema screen. Charter guests can enjoy a film while soaking in the tub, and then not miss a single scene while moving over to the sundeck wet bar for a refreshing cocktail.
The 205-foot Icon motor yacht BATON ROUGE features an oversized sundeck hot tub that doubles as an endless pool with swimming jets for anyone wanting more than the regular water pressure. Overhead, cool-water jets shower guests in a light, refreshing mist.
Another Benetti motor yacht, the 196ft yacht ANDREAS L has a hot tub with submerged bar stools, for guests who prefer to enjoy their refreshments sitting upright as opposed to the common hot tub lounging position.
Leave it to the Italians to redefine the modern style of the ondeck hot tub. The owner of the 70 meter (230 ft) Rossi Navi motor yacht HIGH POWER III (ex-Numptia) turned to Design Studio Spadolini, of Florence to create a modern hot tub masterpiece. The floor-level tub and endless-style pool is the centerpiece on the yacht’s sun deck, and features colored mood lighting, an infinity glass edge on one side, and two powerful waterfall-style showers dropping volumes of water into the pool.

If you owned the massive motor yacht SHERAKHAN the answer is: BOTH!
Originally built in 1965, the current owner bought the commercial vessel in 2005 and undertook a massive refit – basically gutting the entire ship from bow to stern and rebuilt her into a yacht charter vessel with accommodations for 26 guests (most yachts are limited to 12 or fewer). The full rebuild featured all new plumbing, electrical systems, air conditioning, and generators.
It also included a beautiful new paint job – a deep blue hull, with a white superstructure…
Fast forward to 2017, and the owner decided it was time for another refit. All new decks were installed, along with new soft fabrics throughout the guests areas and cabins, and a complete overhaul of all major equipment in the engine room.
As he did in 2005, the owner completely repainted the superyacht charter vessel – this time a clean, crisp white, with subtle grey accents..
The expedition style yacht is available in the Caribbean and will remain there through April. In the summer, the yacht will relocate to the Mediterranean (e.g. Monaco yacht charter or Grand Prix formula 1 races, etc.) for the summer of 2018.
