Playing host to the many celebrities and VIP’s who make their way to the South of France for this special film industry event are some of the world’s newest and largest yachts. Here, where privacy from tourists and onlookers is hard to come by, luxurious superyachts offer discreet accommodations and a secure venue for parties and business meetings.
The Festival was organized as a non-profit organization, managed by a Board of Directors and was to become "state-approved" as in 1972.It has taken place every year – with the exception of 1948 and 1950 – first in the month of September, then in May as of 1952. After years of "Grand Prix,"the award given to the best film director, the Palme d’Or was created in 1955.
The "Palme" has become the enduring symbol of the event, and is presented in a case of pure blue Morocco leather, lined with white suede.
The festival takes place from May 11 to 22. Many in attendance will remain in town to attend the Formula 1 auto racing event along the fabled streets of Monte Carlo, May 26 – 29.
