46-meter Feadship Joins Growing Yacht Charter Fleet in the Maldives

MOTORYACHT JANA

After this weekend’s 2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Feadship motor yacht JANA will hoist her anchor and reposition for the winter season in the Maldives. 

 

AVAILABLE FOR CHRISTMAS CHARTER

Expected to arrive in mid December, the classic 46-meter Feadship yacht charter vessel is currently available for a Christmas reservation. 

 

YACHT CHARTER – DESTINATION MALDIVES

Motoryacht JANA will remain in the Maldives through mid April and joins a growing list of yachts for hire in this Indian Ocean paradise. 

 

OTHER YACHTS FOR CHARTER IN MALDIVES

There are other megayachts committed to the winter season in the Maldives.  For instance,l the 64 meter Benetti motoryacht SILVER ANGEL and sail yacht PERLA DEL MARE.  Additionally, the 60 meter motor yacht ARKLEY and the 150 foot motoryacht MOECCA.

 

JANA AT FORMULA 1 RACE

Serving as a privately-chartered spectator yacht at this year’s Formula 1 race in Abu Dhabi, Feadship yacht JANA will complete one more charter in Abu Dhabi in November before embarking for the Indian Ocean.

THE MALDIVES

The Maldives offer visitors the chance to enjoy crystal clear water and sugar white, sandy beaches.   The Republic of Maldives is located in the Indian Ocean.  It is an island nation. In specific, formed by a double-wrapped chain of twenty-six (26) atolls. The winter water temperature is amazingly warm. Specifically, about 31 degrees celsius (87 degrees fahrenheit).  Opportunities for snorkeling and watersports are endless. There are hundreds of reefs. In addition, many in the shallow waters of enclosed lagoons.

Luxury Lurssen Yacht Headed for Charter

For years, the name Lürssen has been synonymous with some of the most luxurious, and certainly the largest yachts available for charter.  Mammoth-sized vessels such as the 70-meter motor yacht MARTHA ANN and the 60-meter motor yacht HUNTRESS (x-SOLEMATES) are testaments to the 130 yr old German shipbuilder’s dedication to craftsmanship and timeless elegance.

The latest launch by the acclaimed builder is no exception.  Lurssen motor yacht ACE has the distinction of being the first superyacht to splash down in 2012.  She measures 87 meters and left the company’s shipyard in Rendsburg on January 9th. The superyacht by Andrew Winch Design is magnificent.  Her exterior is both unique and instantly recognizable.

This is the unanswered, million-dollar question.  Will motor yacht ACE enter the luxury yacht charter market in 2012?

New Tax on Luxury Charteryachts in Italy

ITALIAN TAX

A new Italian yacht tax will assess a fee for each day a yacht is in service in Italian waters.

Signed into law on December 22, 2011, the new tax will go into effect on May 1, 2012.

 

DECREE STATES

The new tax as outlined in the decree is as follows:

  • 5 Euro per day for vessels from 10.01 to 12 meters
  • 8 Euro per day for vessels from 12.01 to 14 meters
  • 10 Euro per day for vessels from 14.01 to 17 meters
  • 30 Euro per day for vessels from 17.01 to 24 meters
  • 90 Euro per day for vessels from 24.01 to 34 meters
  • 207 Euro per day for vessels from 34.01 to 44 meters
  • 372 Euro per day for vessels from 44.01 to 54 meters
  • 521 Euro per day for vessels from 54.1 to 64 meters
  • 703 Euro per day for vessels over 64 meters   

 

EXCEPTIONS

The new law lists several exceptions.

First, vessels in dry dock or hauled out of the water – exempt from the daily fee

Second, for vessels older than 5, 10 or 15 years, the tax reduces by 15%, 30% and 45%, respectively

Third, all fees for sailing yachts – reduced by 50%

EXAMPLE

Thus, if you reserve the 60 meter Lursen yacht charter motor yacht ARKLEY for a week, you will incur a fee of € 3,647.  Conversely, if you select a sail yacht for your holiday, such as 57 meter Royal Huisman’s sailing yacht TWIZZLE, you’ll pay  € 1,824.

 

COMPANY PRESIDENT COMMENTS

Yacht charter maven Jana Sheeder believes a review of the new law is needed before it goes into effect.

“We fully support the efforts of the Italian government to bolster their sagging economy,” says Sheeder.  “What we have not seen, however, is a detailed analysis of the economic impact that the new tax will have on the Mediterranean yacht charter industry, and the impact on ancillary industries which support yachting such as marinas, fuel brokers, repair specialists, provisioning companies, and travel and tourism offices.”

Superyacht save: Crew of Yacht Ice Rescue 9

According to local reports in Mexico, the crew of the 90 meter Lürssen motor yacht, ICE, assisted in a rescue operation off the coast of Cozumel in mid-February.Apparently a local dive boat was enroute with divers on board to a dive site in Playa Del Carmen known for attracting bull sharks.  After taking on water in rough seas, the vessel sank, leaving all hands in the water, adrift for approximately 4 hours.

Superyacht ICE picked up the dive boat’s distress signal, calculated to where the divers would have drifted, and located all 8 divers and the boat’s operator alive in the water. 
Built by Lürssen in Germany in 2005, the 90 meter motor yacht ICE (launched as motor yacht AIR) offers accommodations for 14 guests, and features a crew compliment of 27.   While not currently available for hire, many other yachts by the fabled German builder are in service as Lürssen yacht charter vessels, including 2009, 60 meter motor yacht ARKLEY and 2010, 60 meter motor yacht SOLEMATES.

A quick look at the top ten world’s largest yachts puts to bed any doubt which shipyard can lay claim to the most superyachts on the seas. 

LURSSEN STANDS OUT

Of the ten largest yachts in service today, Germany’s Lürssen Yachts has built 5 of them, including 3 of the top 5.
With the recent launch of the world’s largest yacht, motor yacht AZZAM, Lürssen also lays claim to the top spot.  Lürssen Yachts launched the 180 meter yacht AZZAM in early 2013, wrestling the top spot away from the Roman Abramovich owned motor yacht ECLIPSE, a 162.50 meter Blohm & Voss GmbH vessel launched in 2010.
