Anyone who has booked a Benetti yacht charter or a Feadship yacht charter vacation knows that charter agents heavily promote trip cancellation insurance. For mega yacht charter agents, trip cancellation insurance is a substantial profit point. Commissions of 20% of the insurance cost for selling this product for a Feadship yacht charter or a Benetti yacht charter are common.
Charter brokers often offer this coverage to their Caribbean yacht charter customers who fear trip delays due to summer tropical weather disturbances. Mediterranean yacht charter customers also hear the pitch to purchase this coverage, as concerns for lost baggage are common with long, international flights.
Putting aside the fact that someone “profits” from the sale of these policies, a luxury yacht charter customer should give serious consideration to this coverage option. Whether you rent a private yacht, a megayacht, or a superyacht, for a Caribbean yacht charter or elsewhere, or whether you plan crewed catamaran charters or sail boat charters – the facts remain the same: you are spending a lot of money and you may wish to protect your investment!
There are hundreds of circumstances that could cause you to cancel your trip, return home early, or force you to seek emergency medical treatment while traveling. What if you booked a MIPIM yacht or a Monaco Grand Prix yacht for the yearly event in Cannes and Monte Carlo, and suddenly you could not attend?
To demonstrate the importance of purchasing travel insurance, and emergency travel services, here are 10 common examples of what could go wrong.
7. BANKRUPTCY OF TOUR OPERATOR — Your luxury sailing charter tour operator goes bankrupt. Who will pay for your non-refundable expenses? Who will help get you to your destination?

It’s been said a Caribbean yacht charter vacation is a great way to kick the blues. Now, a popular sailing charter yacht wants to help you sing the blues!
Book sail yacht MAKAYABELLA during the Bequia Mount Gay Music Festival (January 26th – 29th, 2012) and the yacht’s crew, John and Sue, will provide the guests with complimentary tickets to both the Friday and Saturday night performances.
Outstanding performances by local, regional and international artists has made this music festival one of the “must see” fixtures on the Caribbean season’s calendar. The event kicks off with Dana Gillespie and her London Blues Band’s performance on Friday night and lasts for four days. The festival has received rave reviews since its inception and precedes the 14-day Mustique Blues Festival.
The main venue and stage is located at De Reef, right on the beach in Lower Bay, Bequia, with the big performances on Friday and Saturday night – followed by lazy Sunday afternoon “limin’” music to close out the weekend.
The cozy sailboat MAKAYABELLA can accommodate 6 guests in 4 cabins. The Master cabin has a double bed, shower and toilet. 2 Guest cabins have a twin bed, shower and toilet. A Guest cabin has a double bed, shower and toilet. All cabins are ensuite. On warm evenings, the yacht offers air conditioning in the saloon.
John and Sue have taken guests to this event for the last few years and they report everyone has a great time. “We feel it’s a great event,” says John, “and very much worth promoting as a focal point of a charter here in the Grenadines.”
If you’re a music lover and looking for a unique charter experience, plan a yachting holiday onboard sail yacht MAKAYABELLA around the festival’s dates, and John and Sue will throw in the tickets – free of charge.

The excitement of Formula 1 racing comes to Abu Dhabi this month, and the best seat in the house is undoubtedly onboard the private luxury yacht MOGAMBO.
Now moored at Yas Marina, directly adjacent to the race course, the 74m Nobiskrug yacht MOGAMBO is available for an Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Yacht Charter. Her weekly rental rate is $650,000, plus running expenses. A 5-night minimum reservation is required, spanning the actual race dates of November 25-27.
Built in 2012, super yacht MOGAMBO looks better than ever, having undergone a partial refit. She’s been fully repainted, and he now has a 7th cabin for added flexibility for charter guests and/or occasional workers. The sundeck Jacuzzi has been significantly enlarged, and the gym has been redesigned.
The yacht’s key features include:
The 2016 FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX is the Middle East’s biggest international sporting event and the only twilight race on the F1® calendar. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is just one of two Formula 1 circuit races that directly encompass a marina where guests can enjoy the action from the deck of a superyacht. The other is Monaco. Grand Prix yacht charter vacations in Monaco are famous for their celebrity parties and many racing sponsors hire yachts to serve as private, secure viewing platforms. Much of the course in the Abu Dhabi race hugs the Yas Marina Circuit and viewing the action from a yacht is unobstructed by bleachers or buildings.
The post-race fireworks extravaganza is truly amazing as well!!!
Catch all the action from the deck of your own private yacht charter vessel, from 1-800 Yacht Charters. Text GRAND PRIX YACHT CHARTER to 305-720-7245 for more information. See you on the Circuit!

Planning on walking the red carpet at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, or sitting front row at the 2016 Monaco Grand Prix? If you are, the owner of one of the world’s largest yachts for hire has put forth an enticing offer for participating and spectating at these fabled Côte d’Azur special events.
The 72 meter super yacht AXIOMA has announced a 15% discount for any static, special event yacht charter booked by the end of 2015. That equates to a savings of €73,500 off the winter weekly rate of €490,000.
When it comes to corporate hospitality, a Cannes Film Festival yacht charter is the ideal venue for both social gatherings, and conducting business. Being docked within feet of the entrance to the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, the primary building where films are screened and studio execs meet with prospective buyers. Many attendees choose yachts to hold private business meetings in a more intimate setting. In the evenings, the yachts are often the site of sponsored product-placement cocktail parties.
Just a few miles down the road, the principality of Monaco holds the annual Formula 1 race through the streets of Monte Carlo, and along the quay (docks) of the Port Hercules marina. A spectacular venue for watching one of the world’s most famous auto races, guests onboard yachts are just feet away from the action on the course.
Built in 2013 by Dunya Yachts, with interior design by Albert Pino, the 236ft motor yacht AXIOMA offers charter guests enormous volume for hosting corporate events. The yacht boast six decks and more than 30,000 square meters of space. Amenities include a private outdoor cinema and lounge area, infinity swimming pool, and helipad. In 2014, the yacht received a World Superyacht Award for design excellence.

While there are numerous awards for megayacht designers and builders of the largest luxury yacht charter vessels, the crews of these floating works were often overlooked – until now.
A new competition has been organized by yacht management company, Krystal Yachts, and the search is on for the world’s best yacht crewmembers.
Supercrew 2012 is designed to allow superyacht captains to recognize outstanding members in their employ. Presented quarterly, and based on the exclusive nominations of captains, the award goes to the individual that best demonstrates the qualities of ability, attitude and going the extra mile.
Each quarter a panel of judges will determine the winner. The winner will receive an engraved iPad and be included on the guest lists of all future Krystal Yachts events.
The competition is open to professional crew members who work on any luxury yacht.
Nominations for Supercrew 2012 open in January, 2012.
Come experience the service of a highly-trained, professional crew on your own yachting holiday. Contact the 1-800 Yacht Charters specialists at https://www.1800yachtcharters.com/book-now-contact-us/ for further vacation details.
Wow, this news couldn’t come at a better time…
After navigating the congested roads and waterways of Miami Beach the past 4 days at the 2018 Miami Yacht Show, we’re thrilled to announce the show will relocate to the mainland – near downtown Miami, for the 2019 installment of the annual event!
Pending state and federal permits, the show will relocate to the Resorts World property (formerly the headquarters of the Miami Herald newspaper), just north of downtown Miami next to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts and the Sea Isle Marina.
The show is managed and co-owned by Informa and IYBA, the International Yacht Brokers Association (our company President, Jana Sheeder is a member of IYBA). The event runs concurrently with the Miami International Boat Show, which is owned and operated by the National Marine Manufacturers Association.
This year, as in years past, our biggest challenge in inspecting the luxury yacht charter vessels participating in the show is the lack of timely access. Some yachts are docked along the Indian Creek waterway, in front of the iconic Eden Roc and Fontainebleau hotels. Scenic? Yes. Accessible? Hardly… There’s only one road running north to south (Collins Avenue) and it can easily take 1 hour to traverse the mile-long row of yachts docked along Collins Avenue.
Further adding to the time constraints, the largest yachts (like 213 foot Codecasa superyacht Double Down, and 180 foot Heesen yacht Quite Essential) can’t fit at Indian Creek, so they are moored at the Island Gardens marina on Watson Island – about 5 miles away. Traffic congestion and a woeful lack of parking near the show locations exacerbates the access problems.
At 1-800 Yacht Charters, President Jana Sheeder and her team mitigates these problems by moving between the locations by boat. It helps – but still involves a loss of time traveling between locations, as low bridges force us to cruise a long circuit between Collins Avenue and Watson Island. Yes, it’s faster than traveling by car, but still far from ideal…
Other transportation options:
-Shuttle buses, but their schedules are irregular
-Bicycles for rent, but not ideal when with clients
-Skateboards, but those were used by crewmembers to zip back and forth between nearby hotels (too far to skateboard between marinas)
-Uber and Lyft – a good option, but inconvenient when only going a block or so
^ Resorts World LLC Miami Yacht Show location ^
The new site on the mainland offers ease of access, ample parking, and Miami’s rapid transit Metrorail and Metromover trains. This is prime waterfront property – located between the Venetian and MacArthur Causeways. Whereas the Collins Avenue location had minimal space for on-land exhibits, the new location will include exhibition space for compatible luxury products such as:
Most importantly for our team, water taxi transportation will connect the primary show site to Islands Gardens superyacht marina on Watson Island, where some of the largest charter yachts in the world will be berthed. Even cruising at 5 knots in a watertaxi should take no more than 5 minutes to shuttle between these two locations.
The new yacht show venue also has the added benefit of proximity to the Miami International Boat Show (MIBS) at the Miami Marine Stadium on Virginia Key (Key Biscayne).
[Side note – did we mention dozens of great international-fare restaurants located in downtown Miami?]
We’re extremely excited about the future of the Miami Yacht Show. With better parking, greater access to the charter yachts, luxury product vendors and restaurants, the 2019 show is an event not to be missed!

May 8 marked the conclusion of the 21st Annual Genoa mega yacht charter yacht show. The industry-only event that draws the top luxury charter brokers and charter journalists from around the world. Held at Marina Molo Vecchio, the Genoa boat show showcased 65 mega yacht Mediterranean yacht charter vessels, although it attracted 100 fewer brokers than last year, most likely due to the economy.
The number of megayacht and superyacht vessels that are actually in the show is based on the number that can fit at the available dockage. As is the case each year, several mega yacht owners were disappointed, as a few superyachts were left on the waiting list.
Organized by the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association (MYBA), many yachting-related vendors set up booths along the docks and represented diverse products, from yacht insurance to hotel and tourism destinations. The most common yachts desired for Mediterranean yachting vacations are motoryachts, in contrast with the private sailing yachts that dominate the Caribbean yacht charter marketplace. Supporting this distinction, the majority of yachts in the Genoa show were motoryachts, with the largest being the 70+ meter superyacht models, Boadicea and Haida G.
There were also a number of new yachts with new crew at the show, which bodes well for an industry aching to expand beyond the economic downturn. New private luxury charter yachts include LEO FUN, BIG CITY, PAOLYRE, SALU, SLIPSTREAM, and many more.
While the 2008 season was sluggish due to the global economic meltdown, many brokers in attendance cite an uptick in the number of inquiries for a summertime charter. Indeed, brokers, owners, and crew are all optimistic for a rebound in luxury mega yacht charter vacations this summer.
The buzz on the docks this year seemed to be the increased interest by both yacht owners and charter customers to explore more areas outside of the standard cote d’azur yacht charter locale. As potential charter customers inquire about Croatia yacht charter vacations and Greece yacht charter outings, the word begins to filter back to the yacht owners via the charter brokers. As more clients express interest in a region, more owners are then willing to relocate their megayachts to non-traditional destinations such as Turkey, Greece, and Croatia, for a portion, if not the entire summer charter season.
To learn more, contact 1-800-YACHTCHARTERS. Prime high season dates remain available on many of the newest yachts and largest yachts in the world’s best destinations.
