Following discussions at the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show, the fabled team at Dubois Designs has entered a contract with an existing client for the construction of a 100m sloop.
BUILDER COMMENTS
“We are pleased to announce the design contract for a 100m sloop,” says Ed Dubois.
“This will demand a 30 month design programme with construction expected to commence mid 2013 with completion 2016. Further information will be available late 2012.”
She is expected to exist as one the most spectacular private yachts. Her main mast will tower 125 meters above the water. The yacht is designed as an explorer vessel. Much of her volume is dedicated to storage (stowage) space for tenders and equipment. This sailboat holds a maximum draft of 12.8m. She has accommodations for 20 crew in single cabins. There is a unique hard top over the flybridge.
INTERIOR DESIGNER
No shipyard has yet to be chosen for the construction, but Josep Juanpere Miret in onboard as the interior designer.
Ed Dubois was recently in the news for establishing a cancer fundfor children. Yachts designed by Dubois and his team have swept numerous superyacht awardsin the past year.
That is typically the first question a charter broker asks a prospective new customer when approached with an inquiry for a mega yacht charter vacation.
The answer is often a request for a motor yacht. Yachting aficionados routinely inquire by motoryacht brand. They ask specifically, for example, for a Benetti or Trinity yacht charter vessel.
The pendulum, however, seems to be swinging as more clients express interest in luxury sailing charter holidays.
“We are witnessing a shift in our sense of priorities when it comes to the world around us,” says Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters, an international yacht rental agency. “The focus on sustainable lifestyles goes beyond how we live at home. Many travelers feel compelled to seek out an eco-friendly vacation, and sailboats are the perfect alternative to fossil-fuel powered motoryachts.“
But what about luxury and comfort? For years, sailboats were considered small and cramped, with far fewer amenities than their power-driven counterparts. “That’s all in the past,” says Sheeder.
“Advances in technology have come a long way. Naval architects have found ways to add upscale amenities to sailboats without compromising the yacht’s performance capabilities.”
KOKOMO SAILING YACHT
Sail yacht KOKOMOis indicative of this direction. The 58 meter sailboat reflects new heights of excellence in terms of design, technology, engineering, performance, and quality.
FOUR REASONS TO CHOOSE A SAILBOAT

2. Sailing yachts are more environmentally-responsible (“green“) than motor yachts.
3. Sailboats offer greater fuel economy and less fuel consumption than motor yachts.
4. Sailboats can offer a more tranquil, relaxing experience than a cruise on a motor yacht.

It’s one thing to hear a charter broker tell you the sailboat you are considering for your St. Marten yacht charter is a great performance vessel with plenty of creature comforts. More reassuring are the critical comments of a seasoned sailor who has been onboard while the yacht is underway.
There’s no substitute for a hands-on review of a yacht’s performance under sail.
Recently, sailing journalist Toby Hodge had the opportunity to join the luxury sailing charter vessel Oyster 575 ON LIBERTY for a 220 nautical mile passage from Palma, Mallorca to Cartagena, Spain. Hodge’s review appeared between the covers of the February 2011 issue of Yachting World magazine.
ON LIBERTY is a new entry into the charter market. Her pure hull lines will ensure this yacht is a fast passage maker. Imagine planning a Virgin Islands yacht charter holiday on a blue water cruiser with exhilarating performance.
But hey – no need to take our word – read some of Toby Hodge’s comments:
“The 575 proved easy to handle…She’s another slippery yacht…with an easy motion that will be greatly appreciated at sea”
“Thanks to the twin wheels, the helmsman has unhindered views forward from both sides and I love what happens when you go through waves – nothing – she’s as well mannered as a royal butler.”
“Oyster has a winning recipe for internal layouts, thanks to the center cockpit which creates sumptuous aft cabins, large passageway or U-shaped galleys and spacious saloons set low down to maintain privacy, but enjoying plenty of daylight from the coach roof windows.”
RATE
ON LIBERTY is available this spring in the Caribbean at a weekly rate of $14,000 for 4 passengers, inclusive of food and non-alcoholic beverages. This summer, the yacht will be based in the Western Mediterranean and offered for a rate of €11000 per week, plus all expenses.
