Dubois Designs
Following discussions at the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show, the fabled team at Dubois Designs has entered a contract with an existing client for the construction of a 100m sloop.
“We are pleased to announce the design contract for a 100m sloop,” says Ed Dubois.
“This will demand a 30 month design programme with construction expected to commence mid 2013 with completion 2016. Further information will be available late 2012.”
She is expected to exist as one the most spectacular private yachts. Her main mast will tower 125 meters above the water. The yacht is designed as an explorer vessel. Much of her volume is dedicated to storage (stowage) space for tenders and equipment. This sailboat holds a maximum draft of 12.8m. She has accommodations for 20 crew in single cabins. There is a unique hard top over the flybridge.
No shipyard has yet to be chosen for the construction, but Josep Juanpere Miret in onboard as the interior designer.
Ed Dubois was recently in the news for establishing a cancer fund for children. Yachts designed by Dubois and his team have swept numerous superyacht awards in the past year.

It’s been said the goal of interior design is to produce a harmonious whole. This unit involves the architecture, function, and visual aspects of the interior that are unified. They are also pleasing to mind and body, and they are appropriate to the activities to be pursued there. Envision the World Superyacht Awards 2011’s runaway sweep of every major sailing yacht category.
Ed Dubois and his team of designers at Dubois Naval Architects, Ltd. historical award-winning night. Winners of the coveted Neptune Trophy in five categories, including Sailing Yacht of the Year, as a result.
Sailboat KOKOMO, Best Sailing Yacht over 40 meters at the 20th annual International Superyacht Society Design Awards in Fort Lauderdale, FL, is no stranger to awards. Above all, the accolades just keep accumulating.

Some of the newest and largest yachts for hire win awards. They starred at the sixth annual World Superyacht Awards. This was in London, May 7, 2011.
Sixteen new yachts were honored. Nine are available for hire. These are in popular vacation destinations around the world. The 50 meter EXUMA was co-winner of the prestigious,”Motor Yacht of the Year,” with yacht, Eclipse.
The Neptune awards are considered the “Oscars of the yacht industry.” A beautiful evening ceremony took place at London’s historic Guildhall. The distinguished guests attend the glittering gala . For instance, over 500 yacht owners and naval architects. Also included were designers, their families, and friends. With this in mind, it was an amazing event.
Silver Neptune trophies went to owners of sail and motor yachts delivered in 2010. For instance, Kokomo (sailboat) and Sycara V (motoryacht).
Jana Sheeder, President of SailAway and 1-800 Yacht Charters beamed as the final award was announced.
“We are so proud to represent for charter nine of the winning yachts,” said Sheeder. “This is a great testament to the talents and keen eye of our charter department. Loro Piana Sailing Regatta
Twenty-one yachts have registered, including some of the largest luxury sailing charter vessels for one of the most popular yachting events in the Mediterranean.
The Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta is scheduled for June 4-9, 2012, in Porto Cervo, Sardinia.
First launched in 2008 and hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, this signature event opens the annual superyacht calendar and Mediterranean yacht charter season. An assortment of modern, classic, performance and cruising vessels will be on hand to watch or participate in five days of exhilarating sailing.

Smartphone app, PositionIt
Researchers at the University of Missouri develop a smartphone app that determines location, speed, and direction of distant objects.
The PositionIt app combines a smartphone’s GPS, compass, and imaging capabilities to calculate the exact location of distant objects and track their speed and direction.
Practical uses might include a single off-the-shelf device to replace various pieces of equipment carried by soldiers on the battlefield, or even by golfers to judge the distance to the green when playing golf.
Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters, sees both fun and practical applications in her industry.
“We envision crews using this app to track other vessels during Mediterranean yacht charter regattas, like the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta,” says Sheeder.
“Can you imagine children on crewed catamaran charters in the Caribbean using the app to track a pod of dolphins or whales in the distance? The advantage of a smartphone is that it provides so many tools in a single, affordable package.”
The researchers say the PositionIt app can calculate the exact location of distant objects, both when the size of the object is known and when it isn’t. Additionally, the software can also track the direction and calculate the speed of a moving target, like a luxury sailing charter vessel underway, from a short video captured on the smartphone.
A prototype version of the targeting and tracking software is currently undergoing testing. Advances in smartphone hardware are also expected to improve the accuracy of the new app. Improvements in GPS accuracy, battery life, and camera resolution will allow the app to make even more accurate observations.
The next LORO PIANA SUPERYACHT REGATTA is scheduled for June 4-8, 2013 in Porto Cervo, Sardinia. First launched in 2008, this regatta kicks off the Mediterranean cruising season and attracts an ever-increasing fleet of sailing yachts. For instance, 34 meter sail yacht ANNAGINE and the 57 meter Royal Huisman yacht TWIZZLE.
