Yacht Awards for Charter Boats

THE EVENT

Presenting the winners of the 2011 ShowBoats Design Yacht Awards.  Held at Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, mega yacht charter vessels beat private yachts for awards in design excellence. This is the second year in a row for such charteryacht success.

 

EVENT ATTENDANCE

Superyacht owners and creative talents attended the event.  They watched the luxury charter sailboat TWIZZLE, win.  Her category was Recreational Area for Guest Use and Interior Design categories.  Justin Redman of the design team at
Redman Whiteley Dixon accepted the Neptune award for TWIZZLE.

Private yachts are award winners, also.  The 312 foot Blohm & Voss motor yacht PALLADIUM was the evening’s biggest winner. Designers Mick Leach and Mark Smith took home 4 Neptune Awards for her.  She won Tender Design, Bespoke Furniture Item, Exterior Design & Styling and Interior Design.

Yacht Design Awards – Charter Vessel Nominations

SHOWBOATS DESIGN AWARDS

The final nominees for the 2011 ShowBoats Design Awards are announced.  A group of charter vessels lead the way.  

59 finalists culled from a record 250 nominations. In specific, for the second annual competition.  It is sponsored by Boat International Media.   At stake is a coveted  “Golden Neptune” trophy.  It presents at a gala awards evening.  The evening occurs in Palm Beach, Florida, on October 25, 2011.
The list of nominees are excellent charterboats.  They are some of the newest yachts available for hire.

BIG WINNER

Dubois Naval Architects is in the spotlight again.  They run away with a number of honors at the recent World Superyacht Awards. Their yachts are early favorites to win again.   For instance, KOKOMO (finalist – naval architecture; interior layout; interior design).  In addition, TWIZZLE (finalist – naval architecture; exterior design and styling; interior design; recreational area for guest use).

FINALIST DETERMINATION

The finalists will be scrutinized by an independent panel of judges. This includes superyacht owners and renowned designers from outside the yachting industry.
 
The award gala will take place at Mar a Lago Club, Donald Trump’s exclusive private club in Palm Beach.  It is held on the final day of the Superyacht Design Symposium.  The ceremony concludes two days of design-focused events in Florida.  These are prior to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS).

Yacht Designer Launches Child Cancer Fund

People associate the name, Ed Dubois with luxury mega yacht charter vessels. This month, Dubois, one of the world’s leading yacht designers, launched his greatest project to date. He created a cancer fund for children.

The Dubois Child Cancer Fund (DCCF) is created in conjunction with the charity, Sparks.  European sports superstars created Sparks to fund medical research into childhood diseases.

We first profiled Dubois in May when a handful of the designers yachts swept the World Superyacht Awards.   Some of the world’s largest yachts, specifically luxury sailing charter vessels like TWIZZLEKOKOMO, and  RED DRAGON.  These yachts trace their pedigree to the studio of Dubois Naval Architects Ltd.

DCCF GOAL

The aim of the DCCF is to increase the survival rate for infants and young children with neuroblastoma.  Researchers are optimistic this goal can be reached. They cite as proof the survival rate for childhood leukemia. It has increased over the last twenty years from 10% to 90%.  Specifically due to increased funding.  For Ed and his wife, Honor, the mission to find a cure for childhood cancer hits home. 
Most people who organize charitable donations have a good reason to do so,” explains Ed Dubois.  “In our case, our second daughter, Minna, was diagnosed with the rare form of childhood cancer – neuroblastoma – in July 2005. Her chances of survival, statistically, were about 40%.

Six years after her initial diagnosis, doctors report Minna is doing well, as her chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments have been effective.

SPARKS

All funds raised go directly to Sparks. They will fund specific projects in the area of childhood cancer research. This was agreed upon by Ed and Honor Dubois.
