3 Yacht Charter Must See Destinations | Luxury yacht charter

Posted on

Our friends at Trip Advisor recently sent us an email with some stunning images of 20 awe-inspiring places you must see.  The locations were selected by their members.

Several of the spots were accessible by yacht or could easily be accessed by land during a luxury yacht charter vacation.

From the locations submitted by the members, we’ve selected our favorite three for you to see:

1.  PULPIT ROCK – Ryfylke, Norway.
The Pulpit Rock (“Preikestolen” in Norwegian) soars 604 meters over the Lysefjord. This flat mountain plateau, was most likely carved and formed from melting ice over 10,000 years ago.

Fjord yacht charters in the summertime remain a popular choice, especially among European customers from neighboring Soviet countries.
The Schooner sail yacht MONTIGNE  often offers Norway yacht charter vacations in the summertime. Built by Aegean Yachts, the 2009 super yacht MONTIGNE is a 57 meter (187 foot) three-masted staysail schooner with accommodations for 12 guests.

Her yacht charter rates start at $140,000 per week, plus expenses.

2.  PLITVICE LAKES – Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia.
Founded in 1949, Plitvice is the largest national park in Croatia, drawing more than 1,200,000 visitors annually.  Situated in the mountainous area of central Croatia, the national park connects the Croatian inland with the Adriatic coastal region – a highly popular yachting destination.
The interest in Croatia yacht charters continues to grow each summer, as clients look for alternatives to the crowded anchorages and overpriced marinas in France and Italy.Aerial photograph of mountains, green trees, turquoise water, and waterfalls flowing from the lakes
Motor yacht AIR, Benetti yacht charter vessel MINE GAMES, and James Bond inspired boat, DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER, have all spent time recently cruising the calm waters of the Adriatic yacht charter coastline.
3.  SANTORINI – Cyclades, Greece.
If you’ve ever seen a photograph of blinding-white buildings with blue roofs, juxtaposed against a backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea, chances are you saw a photo of Santorini.  The views of the sea from the terraces of the ancient towns along the cliffs are mesmerizing.
Arguably the most famous island in Greece, Santorini is easily reachable by yacht – just 120 miles southeast from Greece’s mainland.

Popular Greek yacht charter vessels include motor yacht LADY BRITT  and super yacht EXCELLENCE V.

Air Wars – Will Seaplanes Replace Helicopters on Superyachts?

Posted on

Amphibious seaplane - Icon A5 - will seaplanes replace helicopters on charteryachts?

Back in June, we took a look at the new Mercedes Benz-style helicopter, the EC145, and its potential use as an air tender on mega yacht charter vessels.

Several readers contacted us to say the air tender of the future might be a plane and not a helicopter.  We found the concept too intriguing not to investigate further.

As we stated in June, “In the rarified air of multimillion dollar superyachts and gigayachts, helipads on luxury mega yacht charter vessels like motor yacht AIR and motor yacht MOONLIGHT II  commonplace…”

Helicopter on superyacht - will this be replaced by a amphibious seaplane?

That being said, there are four compelling reasons why seaplanes might give helicopters a run for their money: acquisition cost, maintenance cost, payload, and range.

Simply put – it is often more affordable to acquire and maintain a seaplane when compared to a helicopter; and while we found payload comparisons vary depending upon the type of airship, the seaplanes far exceed the range of the typical helicopters.

Seaplanes, including a new amphibian model, could be taking the place of onboard helicopters on charter megayachts

What might further tip the scales in the favor of seaplanes is the new generation of planes known as
Special Light Sport Aircraft.

Light sport aircraft are relatively new to general aviation. In 2004, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) created a new category for sport aircraft.

In general, sports aircraft are cheaper to build than most helicopters.   With fewer training hours required, it is also easier and less expensive for people to get a sport pilot license as compared to a traditional pilot’s license.

As a tender to a luxury yacht charter vessel, the most interesting new sports plane is the Icon A5, slated for full production later this year.  The A5 is a 2-seat composite amphibian. Weighing just 1000 pounds, the plane features folding wings, allowing the aircraft to be stored onboard a yacht in a space no larger than 28 by 9 feet.

With a price of just $135,000, the Icon A5 could prove to be the low cost air tender of the future.
