Janet Winters is the author of The Barn Goddess Chronicles, a blog celebrating the equestrian lifestyle. Winters refers to the lifestyle as, “…a journey of adventure, discovery and community…We never know what any particular ride will be like.”
That spirit of adventure bonds the equestrian and yachting lifestyles together. Indeed, each time we “climb aboard” – whether it’s a steed or a luxury yacht – we have the chance to immerse ourselves in adventure. Moreover, it’s an opportunity to rejuvenate mind, body, and spirit.
THE DESTINATION
It’s hard to imagine a luxury yacht charter destination that beckons to equestrian travelers more than the Mediterranean. The Eastern “Med” includes Greece and the Aegean Sea. The Western Med covers the French Riviera and Italy’s western coast, as well as the islands of Corsica and Sardinia. The scenery is breathtaking. In fact, everywhere you turn, you see hills and mountains that look down on uncrowded beaches and turquoise-green waters.
Remember the classic film, The Black Stallion? (Oh, who could forget!!??) The young, shipwrecked boy and his newfound equine friend are inseparable. It is a magnificent friendship. They spend much of the first part of the film exploring an uninhabited beach and frolicking in the sea.
Those mesmerizing scenes take place on the beautiful island of Sardinia.
Just look at the color of the water!!!!
GO, GO, GO – FEI MONACO
Are you familiar with the places to see and the things to do during a yacht charter in the Med? Please don’t worry if your answer is “no.” Our team will create a bespoke itinerary for you. It will be based on the activities you enjoy.
For example, we created a Equestrian-Friendly yacht charter itinerary that kicks off in Monaco at the annual FEI Monte Carlo, Port Hercules Standard Show (June 25-25).
Day 1: Monaco
The FEI show jumping arena is set up right in front of the marina! Your superyacht will serve as your floating hotel while you attend the event.
Try to envision the sequence of your day.
First, you wake up and enjoy an open-air breakfast, on deck. Everywhere you look you see beautiful yachts, docked side by side. Second, you take the short walk to the FEI arena for an exciting day of world-class show jumping. When you need a break, your crew is standing by – ready to serve you a freshly-prepared lunch. No one but you and your family and friends are onboard. Third, when the jumping is over for the day, you and your guests return to your luxury yacht. After all, it’s time for an impromptu and oh-so-casual cocktail hour!
Without a doubt, it’s hard to imagine a more convenient vacation arrangement for watching the FEI show… This is the Equestrian Lifestyle at its best…
Now, its time to explore Monaco and then set off for adventure. Let’s look at the rest of your 7-night itinerary:
Day 2: Monaco
Monaco is the second smallest state in Europe. The only city, Monte-Carlo, is synonymous with all things luxury – casinos, resorts, superyachts, exclusive parties, and exotic cars. You and your family and guests can enjoy activities such as:
-Helicopter rides over the city
-A test drive in a F1 race car
-Lunch at Le Vistamar, at Hotel Hermitage*
-Dancing the night away at the exclusive nightclub, Jimmy’z.
*Additionally, other beautiful lunch options include Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Au Grand Inquisteur
Finally, the dining experience at 3-Michelin star restaurant, Louis XV is not to be missed. This fine establishment features the unique food interpretation of international renowned executive-chef Alain Ducasse.
Day 3: Pampelonne Beach, St.Tropez
Pampelonne Beach is the sandy locale that fuels St Tropez’s fame. Over 20,000 people a day visit this beach in the peak of the summer (July/August). Even so, you’ll never feel overwhelmed as your private superyacht is at anchor, just a few yards from the beach. You decide how much interaction, if any, you want with the local community and tourists. The top beach clubs/restaurants worthy of a visit are Nikki Beach, Bagatelle, Cap 21, Les Murenes, and Le Club 55.
WHAT AWAITS YOU…
Day 4: ????
Are you wondering, “What’s in store for day four?” Just what is on the horizon for the rest of the week?
Adventure awaits, and it all starts with a click of your computer mouse.

HOW TO BOOK YOUR EQUESTRIAN YACHT CHARTER
In conclusion, we paraphrase fellow blogger Janet Winters. “Let your equestrian lifestyle lead you to the warm waters of the Mediterranean. Here, a journey of adventure and discovery awaits.” Indeed it does – onboard your own private charter. Enjoy The Superyacht Experience™ by 1-800 Yacht Charters
As leaders in arranging Mediterranean yacht charter vacations, along with private yacht holidays throughout Greece and the Caribbean, we recognized an opportunity, and an obligation, to grow our business for the greater social good.
CHARTER A YACHT – CHANGE THE WORLD
Realizing you can rent a yacht from a number of qualified charter brokers around the world, we came up with a simple reason to book your yacht with us: “Charter a Yacht and Change the World.”
Wow – what a year 2015 turned out to be!
HEAVILY EMBRACED
We are so proud of and honored by our clients – both repeat charterers and new customers. They embraced our commitment to sustainability and generosity.
With enthusiasm, they chose our reusable water bottles in lieu of disposable plastic bottles (to help reduce plastic pollution in our oceans). When we told them a portion of their charter cost would be donated to charity in their name, and that we wanted their input in selecting the charity, they were quick to direct multiple donations to their favorite causes.
MANY CHARITIES BENEFITED
Thanks to our clients, among MANY other things, we were able to
PROTECT REEFS. Install multiple mooring buoys in Biscayne Bay. This is the hub of the Florida yacht charter marketplace. The buoys protect coral reefs from damage from boat anchors. Additionally, they educate the public about the plight of coral reefs and historical underwater wrecks.
BUY MEDICAL EQUIPMENT. Purchase a medical autoclave to sterilize surgical instruments for an international group that provides low-cost spay and neutering services for dogs, cats, rabbits, and other animals, enabling the medical team to alter many more pets and rescued animals each day.
SPAY AND NEUTER. Pay for multiple spay/neuter surgeries for stray animals
DO ANIMAL RESCUE. Pay for the rescue, transport, and housing of multiple animals (saving lives)
PAMPER WOUNDED VETERANS. Defray the cost of multiple private luxury Virgin Islands yacht charter vacations. These occur on a 155 foot superyacht. They support veteran wounded soldiers and their spouses.
SUPPORT POLLINATORS. Repopulate bees, butterflies, and pollinators near natural hammocks and waterways
EDUCATE YOUTH. Support classrooms who are teaching youth to protect the oceans and to use sustainable goods
Looking back, 2015 was a fantastic year. The above items and so many others are just so exciting for us. Helping others is our passion.
WHAT LIES AHEAD
We enter 2016 with a number of new yachts and new destinations to offer our clients. We have the brand new expedition yacht LEGEND, available for experiencing Greenland and Norway’s Fjords; and the world’s largest sailing yacht for charter made of wood, the yacht LAMIMA, available in the exotic islands of Thailand and Burma.
WE ARE ENERGIZED
Our team is energized to share these yachts and destinations with our clients. Each charter vacation gives our clients a chance to reconnect with family and friends. Additionally, to embrace diverse cultures. Finally, to rejuvenate mind, body, and spirit.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH US
Together, we will make a difference. The Superyacht Experience™ by 1-800 Yacht Charters awaits you. When you choose to live a generous life, you start to change…and so does the world around you!!!
Happy New Year,
Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters, cleaning plastic and debris from coastline near her home in South Florida

Are you ready for the “Good News/Bad News” update?
GOOD NEWS: Formula 1 announced an agreement in principle to hold a race in Miami, starting in 2021.
BAD NEWS: Undoubtedly, the idea a Miami Grand Prix yacht charter seems lost, as the race will be held inland. Specifically, far from the ocean.
ORIGINAL IDEA
We were initially excited to see race organizers focusing on a circuit in downtown Miami, along Biscayne Bay. This course allows superyachts to dock or anchor close to the course, similar to the layout of the Monaco Grand Prix. Yacht charter clients and their guests watch the cars scream by from the comfort of their yacht’s sun deck.
There was considerable local opposition to holding a grand prix in downtown Miami. Residents and local business owners voiced concerns about interruptions to business caused by the construction of the race track.
CHANGE OF LOCATION
Organizers then shifted their attention to building a road course on the grounds of Hard Rock Stadium – home to the NFL’s Miami Dolphins. The stadium is miles inland from the ocean – in the community of Miami Springs.
This week, Formula 1 announced an agreement has been reached with real estate mogul and Dolphins owner Stephen Ross to establish a race in Miami, with the inaugural event in 2021.:
“We are thrilled to announce that Formula One and Hard Rock Stadium have reached an agreement in principle to host the first-ever Formula One Miami Grand Prix at Hard Rock Stadium,”
F1 Miami Grand Prix
AGREEMENT SUBJECT TO APPROVAL
The agreement is subject to approval by Miami-Dade County.
In their statement, F1’s Sean Bratches and Tom Garfinkel, the chief executive of Hard Rock Stadium, outlined the financial benefits the race will bring to Miami.
“With an estimate annual impact of more than $400m and 35,000 room nights, the F1 Miami Grand Prix will be an economic juggernaut for South Florida each year.”
TWITTER UPDATE BY F1
Garfinkel added to the announcement with a comment on Twitter.
“The world’s greatest racing @f1 has never been to S. Florida. Imagine people coming to this region from around the World in May. Multiple passing zones and world-class clubs and amenities. Barcelona, Monaco… Miami… make it happen.”
The agreement specifically calls for Ross to fund construction of the estimated $40 million custom track and cover all race-related expenses.
WHAT ABOUT THE YACHTS?
Watching the race from the deck of a yacht charter vessel is now out of the question. In spite of the location change, we are hopeful clients will still consider a Miami Grand Prix yacht charter – as a “Destination Event.”
DESTINATION YACHT CHARTER IDEA
The yachts can serve as platforms for corporate hospitality! Helicopters and private transportation in use to shuttle clients and guests to Hard Rock Stadium for the race.
The original post below………..
F1 RACING COMES TO MIAMI?
Formula 1 is here. Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines. Captains, prepare to cast off!
Formula One is scouting Miami, Florida as a site for a Grand Prix race. F1, or FIA Formula One World Championship, is the foremost auto racing league. Envision Miami. First, dozens of superyachts lining the course. Second, thousands of thrilled spectators on yachts to watch see the action.
BACKGROUND
Per the Miami Herald, F1 execs met with Miami mayor and government officials in November. They discussed racing logistics for an annual event along Biscayne Bay, through downtown Miami.
Events Director for city of Miami, Vicente Betancourt, says the goal is to add Miami to the Formula 1 season in 2020. “It’s like the Super Bowl of auto racing,” said Betancourt. “Hopefully we can make it happen.”
WHO WILL ANNOUNCE THE RACE?
Will the amazing Michael Buffer possibly be the announcer for a Miami Grand Prix Formula One race?
WHO WILL DRIVE RACE CARS?
Wouldn’t you love to see professional race car drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Bottas, Vettel, Raikkonen, or Verstappen driving? High-tech Mercedes, Ferraris, Alfa Romeos, and Maseratis on the Sunny downtown Miami streets?
SPONSORSHIPS
Equally important, what a wonderful boost for the South Florida economy. A Grand Prix Formula One race could provide corporate sponsorships from such companies as Amazon. (Jeff Bezos, graduated high school in Miami, in the same class as our company President, Jana Sheeder). Additional sponsors are lining up. For instance,
From April through November, the Formula One’s series is comprised of 20 races in cities around the world. Those cities include Singapore, Budapest, Sao Paulo, Dubai, and Monaco. There are 15 road courses and five courses laid out on city streets.
Formula 1 has new ownership (Liberty Media) and looks to expand its U.S. presence. F1 has a massive fan base across the globe; however, it lags behind other sports in the United States, like football, basketball, and NASCAR. Soccer is as popular as F1 racing. The only United States Grand Prix race is in Austin, Texas right now. Chase Carey, Liberty Media’s CEO of the Formula 1 Group, says he wants another race in America. An event in Miami, or possibly Las Vegas or New York, has been publicly discussed.
Carey wants to see F1 grab a foothold in “destination cities” like New York, Los Angeles, Miami, or Las Vegas. As a result, this would create a week-long celebration capable of attracting people from all over the world.
“Of all the races held annually by F1, the two premier events are staged in Monaco and Abu Dhabi,” says Sheeder. “Both locations have courses along the waterfront, and thousands of spectators enjoy the race and the festivities from the decks of dozens of luxury yachts. The Miami Grand Prix would duplicate that unique setting, as the course would pass through downtown Miami, along our beautiful waterfront area – and we have many superyachts that already make South Florida their home port.”
According to AutoGuide.com, Formula One filed on November 1st for a new trademark on a race event in Miami (as well as Las Vegas and New York). The next day, Sean Bratches, Formula One’s director of commercial operations, came to Miami, with his track engineers, and met with Mayor Francis Suarez and checked out the city streets near the downtown area, along the waterfront. Betancourt, who has been in communications with F1 since May said nothing was finalized. “We’ve got to see if it works and what it would cost them to actually bring it out. I think the ball is pretty much in their court.”
MIAMI BACKGROUND
Sheeder points out the idea of a major road race and spectator yachts is not new for the city. In the 1980’s, the Miami Grand Prix was a major annual event (but not affiliated with the F1 series).
“Private luxury yacht charter vessels would line up, stern-to the seawall in the area that is now the Bayside Marketplace, and spectators would watch the race from the deck of their superyachts. In the evening, many of the yachts would host private parties for the charterers, as well as the owners, drivers, and corporate sponsors of the racing teams.”
MOVE OVER, MONACO!
Sheeder is optimistic a new F1 week-long race event will become a marquee attraction for South Florida.
“Assuming the financing and logistics make sense for Formula One, a corporate hospitality Miami Grand Prix yacht charter could easily rival the excitement of a Monaco Grand Prix yacht charter or an Abu Dhabi yacht charter. Yes, Monaco has the edge thanks to many decades of exposure, but Miami could make a big splash. We have the best weather, and the largest inventory of luxury yacht charter vessels anywhere in the world. Throw in the sexy appeal of nearby South Beach with world-famous hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, and celebrities, and Miami is a world-class big-event town.”
Where else can you go to an upscale event, wearing little more than sandals and a bathing suit, where the best “seat” in the house is in an on deck Jacuzzi on a private luxury yacht???
Welcome to Miami! Bienvenidos a Miami!
THAT’S A WRAP
In conclusion, attending a Grand Prix event on a yacht is the ultimate in corporate hospitality. Come experience the excitement and glamour of Formula 1 racing in 2018.
There are over 25 annual shows for superyacht vessels around the world. One show is the biggest and best. It is the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS).
EXHIBITORS AT THE BOAT SHOW
The list of exhibitors at the boat show is typically VIP’s of the superyacht industry. Trinity, Feadship, Lurssen, and Benetti yacht charter enthusiasts are in awe at the sheer number of yachts gathered in one location.
“We can take our clients on a tour of several equal-sized yachts and let them compare deck space, cabin size, and onboard amenities.”
“Some of our most popular mega yacht charter vessels are here, for example, ANJILIS and BIG CITY (both along the Face Dock between slips 9A-D) and MARAYA (docked at Bahia Mar in slip A1).”
The 2009 showcase of luxury sail and motoryachts takes place October 29th through November 2nd.
Fort Lauderdale will once again play host to the biggest boat show in the world – the 52nd annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show on October 27-31, 2011.
While exhibits range from yacht builders and designers to exotic cars, the real stars of the show are the megayachts. Some of thenewest yachts for hire will be available for viewing and in some cases, personal inspection (by prior-arranged appointment).
Luxury sailing charter vessels and motoryachts will cover over 3 million square feet of space in six locations.
Show dates and operating hours for October 27-31, 2011 are as follows:
Prime Time Preview:
Thurs. Oct 27, 10am – 7pm
General Admission: Fri. Oct 28, 10am – 7pm Sat. Oct 29, 10am – 7pm Sun. Oct 30, 10am – 7pm Mon. Oct 31, 10am – 5pm

Our Team navigated congested roads and waterways of Miami Beach for the past 4 days at the 2018 Miami Yacht Show. We are now thrilled to announce the Miami show will relocate to the mainland! It heads near downtown Miami, for the 2019 installment of the annual event!
WHY NOT IMMEDIATE?
As expected, the move depends upon state and federal permits. Once approved, the show relocates to the Resorts World property (formerly the headquarters of the Miami Herald newspaper). The location is just north of downtown Miami. It is next to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts and the Sea Isle Marina.
WHO MANAGES THE SUPERYACHT SHOW?
The show is managed and co-owned by Informa and IYBA, the International Yacht Brokers Association (our company President, Jana Sheeder is a member of IYBA). The event runs concurrently with the Miami International Boat Show, which is owned and operated by the National Marine Manufacturers Association.
THE CHALLENGE
This year, as in years past, our biggest challenge in inspecting the luxury yacht charter vessels participating in the show is the lack of timely access. Some yachts are docked along the Indian Creek waterway, in front of the iconic Eden Roc and Fontainebleau hotels. Scenic? Yes. Accessible? Hardly… there’s only one road running north to south (Collins Avenue) and it can easily take 1 hour to traverse the mile-long row of yachts docked along Collins Avenue.
LARGE YACHTS ON DISPLAY
Further adding to the time constraints, the largest yachts (like 213 foot Codecasa superyacht Double Down, and 180 foot Heesen yacht Quite Essential) can’t fit at Indian Creek, so they are moored at the Island Gardens marina on Watson Island – about 5 miles away. Traffic congestion and a woeful lack of parking near the show locations exacerbates the access problems.
JANA SHEEDER, PRESIDENT of 1-800 YACHT CHARTERS
At 1-800 Yacht Charters, President Jana Sheeder and her team mitigates these problems by moving between the locations by boat. It helps – but still involves a loss of time traveling between locations, as low bridges force us to cruise a long circuit between Collins Avenue and Watson Island. Yes, it’s faster than traveling by car, but still far from ideal…
TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS
Other transportation options:
-Shuttle buses, but their schedules are irregular
-Bicycles for rent, but not ideal when with clients
-Skateboards, but those were used by crewmembers to zip back and forth between nearby hotels (too far to skateboard between marinas)
-Uber and Lyft – a good option, but inconvenient when only going a block or so
^ Resorts World LLC Miami Yacht Show location ^
HOW TO GET AROUND
The new site on the mainland offers ease of access, ample parking, and Miami’s rapid transit Metrorail and Metromover trains. This is prime waterfront property – located between the Venetian and MacArthur Causeways. Whereas the Collins Avenue location had minimal space for on-land exhibits, the new location will include exhibition space for compatible luxury products such as:
Exotic cars and vehicles like Bentley – Bugatti – Rolls Royce – Maserati – Tesla
Private aircraft like Gulfstream – Bombardier Global -Dassault Falcon – Embraer Lineage
Helicopters like Sikorsky Executive – Bell – Leonardo
Fashions like Gucci – Louboutin – Chanel – Hermes – Balenciaga – Louis Vuitton – Prada
Sun products like Shiseido – L’Occitane au Bresil – Equitance
Art by artists like Britto – Chihuly – Xavier Veilhan
FAVORITE MODE OF TRANSPORTATION FOR OUR TEAM
Most importantly for our team, water taxi transportation will connect the primary show site to Islands Gardens superyacht marina on Watson Island, where some of the largest charter yachts in the world will be berthed. Even cruising at 5 knots in a watertaxi should take no more than 5 minutes to shuttle between these two locations.
MIAMI INTERNATONAL BOAT SHOW
The new yacht show venue also has the added benefit of proximity to the Miami International Boat Show (MIBS) at the Miami Marine Stadium on Virginia Key (Key Biscayne).
ACTIVITIES DURING AT THE MIAMI YACHT SHOW
There are so many fun things to do during your visit to the Show. For instance,
Here are more ideas for activities for you. For example,
Wynwood Walls – Just 10 minutes from Downtown Miami. Art galleries. Walls of artistic graffiti. Artwalks. Photography studios
Multiple brewing companies – Sample craft beers and visit breweries throughout downtown Miami area
Foodie Culinary Tour – Take a culinary tour of the various restaurants throughout South Beach and the Miami Arts District.
Waterway Tour – Star Island celebrity homes tour by boat, Monument Island, Port of Miami cruiseships
JANA SHEEDER – IN CONCLUSION
We’re extremely excited about the future of the Miami Yacht Show. First, with better parking, second, greater access to the charter yachts, and third, luxury product vendors and restaurants, the 2019 show is an event not to be missed!
May 8 marks the conclusion of the 21st Annual Genoa mega yacht charter yacht show. The industry-only event draws the top luxury charter brokers and charter journalists from around the world.
AT WHICH MARINA IS THE SHOW?
It is held at Marina Molo Vecchio. The Genoa boat show showcases 65 mega yacht Mediterranean yacht charter vessels, although it attracted 100 fewer brokers than last year, most likely due to the economy.
SUPERYACHTS AT THE SHOW
The number of megayacht and superyacht vessels that are actually in the show bases on the number that can fit at the available dockage. Several mega yacht owners get disappointed, as a few superyachts are always left on the waiting list.
WHO ORGANIZES THE GENOA YACHT SHOW?
The show is organized by the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association (MYBA). Yachting-related vendors set up booths along the docks. They represent diverse products, from yacht insurance to hotel and tourism destinations. The most common yachts desired for Mediterranean yachting vacations are motoryachts. Private sailing yachts dominate the Caribbean yacht charter marketplace.
The majority of yachts in the Genoa show are motoryachts, with the largest being the 70+ meter superyacht models, Boadicea and Haida G this year.
SUPERYACHTS IN ATTENDANCE
New yachts with new crew attend the show. This benefits an industry aching to expand beyond the economic downturn. New private luxury charter yachts include LEO FUN, BIG CITY, PAOLYRE, SALU, SLIPSTREAM, and many more.
THE ECONOMIC MELTDOWN
The 2008 season was sluggish due to the global economic meltdown. Many brokers at the Genoa show cite an uptick in the number of inquiries for a summertime charter. Brokers, owners, and crew are all optimistic for a rebound in luxury mega yacht charter vacations this summer.
DOCK BUZZ
The buzz on the docks this year shows interest by both yacht owners and charter customers. Exploration of areas outside of the standard cote d’azur yacht charter locale is buzzing. Potential charter customers inquire about Croatia yacht charter vacations and Greece yacht charter outings. Yacht owners notice the buzz from charter brokers. As more clients express interest in a region, more owners are then willing to relocate their megayachts to non-traditional destinations. Some of these places include Turkey, Greece, and Croatia.
LUXURY TAX ABOLISHED The recent Mediterranean Yacht Charter show in Genoa, Italy, learned that the 3 year old Sardinia Luxury Tax is no more. ABOUT THE TAX The repeal of the Sardinia Luxury Tax is especially good news to charter enthusiasts. Anyone considering a yachting vacation in the Mediterranean is fortunate. The law […] read more
