Miami Superyacht Charter Marina Rebrands

Posted on

Photograph of marina full of large yachts. There are tall buildings in the background. The sky is bright blue with puffy clouds.

ISLAND GARDENS MARINA NEWS

Miami’s premier superyacht marina, Island Gardens Deep Harbour, is under new management. The “upgrade” in management, in our opinion, is long overdue.

WHAT IS THE NEW NAME?

The new name for the Miami Superyacht Marina is Yacht Haven Grande Miami at Island Gardens.  The marina opened in 2016 and is the annual home of the SuperYacht Miami Show each February.

ABOUT IGY MARINAS

Island Global Yachting (also known as IGY Marinas) will operate the rebranded Miami marina.  This destination offers 50 superyacht berths – for yachts up to a maximum length of 550ft.  In-slip fueling is available. High-power electrical service is also available.

LOCATION OF SUPERYACHT MARINA

The marina is located on Watson Island.  The island is ideally located between Miami Beach to the east and downtown Miami to the westIndeed, the views of the Miami skyline are postcard-perfect.  The proximity to trendy area hotspots is unbeatable. This deep-water marina is always our first choice for our Miami yacht charter clients.  Nevertheless, the marina was less than ideal for the yacht crews as they awaited the arrival of our charter guests.  Specifically, the marina lacked a captain and crew lounge.  Furthermore, customs and immigration assistance was sketchy at best.

MARINA AMENITIES

IGY has resolved these issues.  There is now a crew lounge, as well as a conference room.  Additionally, concierge services are available including valet and laundry/dry cleaning.  On-site dining is also available.   In fact, the newly re-opened dock-side café, aptly named, “The Deck” is described by Forbes as “Miami’s Hottest New Restaurant.”

MARINA SERVICES

We’re excited to take advantage of the new services and amenities.  Apprehension gives way to anticipation, as we await the upcoming Superyacht Miami show (February 2021).  We are unsure as to whether the show will go on or be well-attended in 2021.  In specific, Covid, the pandemic, the Coronavirus changed the landscape of events.  What’s exciting about the show? As an example, in the past, we transported prospective clients to the show via yacht tenders.  The car parking lot was poorly maintained.  We found it simpler, cleaner, more in tune with the theme, AND more fun to arrive via boat.  Arrival by car is once again an option, with IGY concierge services in place.

SUPERYACHTS IN ATTENDANCE

Many of the Miami superyacht charter vessels we represent attend this yacht show.  In fact, February weather is ideal for our company President Jana Sheeder to shoot yacht inspection videos of our favorite superyachts [such as Benetti yacht 11.11 and Lurssen yacht Martha Ann.]

We’re excited to welcome IGY Marinas to Miami.  Moreover, we look forward to commencing more Miami superyacht charter vacations from this rebranded location.

CONSUMER TRAVEL DEMAND

There is growing consumer demand to rent a private yacht in a unique destination.  This prompts another superyacht owner to relocate for the upcoming winter season.

SILVER ANGEL TO SHERAKHAN

Her return trip will be in January and February 2013.  She has two confirmed charters on the books.  The superyacht will remain in Antarctica during March 2013.  Specifically, if there is additional charter interest.  There is another option.  In specific, the owner is considering is a relocation to Chile, Patagonia, or the Brazilian Amazon.  She plans to accommodate requests for charters through April.

SUMMER TRAVEL FOR 26 GUESTS

In May, the megayacht will travel to the Mediterranean for the summer 2013 charter season.

New Benetti Veloce 140 Yacht DREW Available For Bahamas Yacht Charter

Posted on

Every once in a while, we find a hidden “gem” at a boat show that we can’t wait to share with our clients.  Motor yacht DREW is that type of yacht.

Benetti Veloce 140 DREW side profile

Launched in 2016, she is just the second hull in the new Benetti Veloce 140 series.  She made her charter debut at the 29th edition of  Yachts Miami Beach, the show that highlights private luxury yacht charter megayachts, and runs concurrently with the Miami Boat Show, now named Miami Yacht Show.  Yacht manager, Stacy Moss of Northrop and Johnson invited our company President, Jana Sheeder, onboard for a private viewing and an opportunity to meet the crew. After our inspection, Stacy was kind enough to put together an overview for our readers:

THE YACHT

Benetti’s 140-foot (42.6m) luxury motor yacht DREW was launched in 2016. This sexy, chic yacht is ideal for charter thanks to her impressively voluminous and stylish interior, her exceptional on-deck spaces and her fully stocked toy box with a variety of exciting water sports, tenders and more.

Five staterooms cater to up to 10 guests on board (yacht) DREW. The main-deck 900-square-foot master is located forward and offers a walk-around king-size bed, an 80-inch flat screen, massive windows that provide astonishing views and an en-suite his-and-hers master math with a large European rain shower. The four additional guest staterooms are located on the lower deck. All offer queen-size beds and en-suite bathrooms, among other amenities.

The main salon is a perfect place to entertain. A variety of seating options, a game table and a flat screen TV all are on offer. Just aft, an alfresco dining table for 10 is the perfect spot for breakfast. This space leads to the beach club, which houses all the yacht’s water toys and is a great place to relax, catch some rays or pop in the water.

Motor yacht DREW’s skylounge is equipped with a full bar, day head, incredible views from massive windows and a large wrap-around couch situated in front of an 80-inch flat screen, and dive into a movie. The skylounge aft offers alfresco dining for 10 and incredible views. DREW’s sundeck is divided into two sections, forward and aft. The aft deck has four large chaise lounges, two large removable umbrellas; forward is a large bar with seating for five, a dining table for 10 and a flat screen TV. The Portuguese deck, an extension of the sundeck, is outfitted with U-shaped settee seating for 10, a table,  four large sun pads and a Jacuzzi.

SPECIFICATIONS

Length: 43m/ 140 ft

Beam: 8m/ 27.10 ft

Draft: 2.43m/ 8 ft

Year: 2016

Guests: 10

Cabins: 5

Crew: 8

THE BAHAMAS

The owner of the yacht has decided the Bahamas is the perfect destination for his new yacht, and we couldn’t agree more.  Our biggest challenge when arranging a Bahamas yacht charter for a client is the difficulty to find a yacht that can accommodate a large family or multiple couples in the shallow waters of the Bahamas. You see, much of the Bahamian islands reside in shallow, sandy waters.  Large megayachts that can accommodate 8 to 10 passengers usually have deep drafts  meaning they sit deeply in the water – too deep to navigate in shallow coves.   Even though Drew has accommodations for 10 guests, she is only 140ft in overall length, and her draft is just 8 feet.  Hence, this Benetti Veloce 140 is the perfect platform for a superyacht experience in the Bahamas!

Small Details Can Make Or Break Your Yacht Charter

Posted on

THE MAGIC OF YACHT SHOWS

I love yacht shows, but probably for a different reason than most yacht charter brokers.  Sure, it’s a chance to see the newest yachts as they enter the market.  It is also a special opportunity to sample gourmet treats prepared by Michelin-star yacht chefs.  My associates refer to me as a wannabe gastronome.

For me, the real intrigue of attending a yacht show or yacht open house is the chance to watch our company President, Jana Sheeder, as she boards a yacht, inspects the vessel, and meets the crew.

Photograph of 4 people, smiling at the camera. They are standing in the main salon of a superyacht. The three people on the left of the photo are wearing black t-shirts and name badges on lanyards. The person on the right side of the photo is wearing a white blouse and gold name badge.

IN HER OWN WORDS

So what sets Jana apart from other charter brokers?  What is it that allows 1-800 Yacht Charters to innovate beyond the basic rental of yachts and to deliver what we call, The Superyacht Experience™ to our clients?

I’ll let Jana explain our point of difference.

“Attention to detail and focus on perfection are at the core of our business philosophy.  Aristotle is credited with the saying, ‘The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.’   We truly believe in the famous philosopher’s message.  It is easy to fall into the trap of analyzing a yacht’s onboard amenities.   Others see features, above benefits. Certainly, items like an ondeck hot tub, an outdoor cinema area, and Hamman spa draw your attention to a yacht, but it’s the small things, some tangible, some more of a feeling, that can make or break the onboard superyacht experience for a client.”

WHAT DOES SHE MEAN?

Here is an example of Jana’s point.   Recently aboard a yacht new to the market, 2016 Benetti motor yacht DREW.   During Yachts Miami Beach (February, 2017), at our city’s premier luxury yacht charter and sales show.  Other guests focused on the yacht’s layout and her unique design components. For instance, the covered seating area and hot tub, positioned on the forward Portuguese deck.  It is different, because it is not on the sundeck-  where most yachts locate their on deck Jacuzzi.  What was Jana looking at?  The soap and lotion dispensers in a cabin’s ensuite bath…

Photograph of a tray of bath products on a yacht. The products are all made by Molton Brown. The tray is beige, and the vanity is light colored marble.

“They provide Jo Malone soap and lotion to the guests,” Jana called out to me.  Later, she would explain the importance of providing quality skincare products to the charter guests.

“An article about the British Royal Wedding claimed Kate Middleton used Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin to scent Westminster Abbey on her wedding day.  I researched the brand and was impressed by the unique, original scents.  It may seem strange to the casual observer, but the brand and quality of the soaps and lotions provided to the charter guests can be integral to the overall superyacht experience – especially for the female guests.  The fragrances provided by the yacht should be subtle, so as not to clash with any perfumes or colognes worn by the guests.  Additionally, the lotions need to have a nourishing texture since the charter guests are exposed to sun, salty water, and outside air much of the time during the cruise.”

As we moved from yacht to yacht, Jana would make notes and take photos of many items and features of the vessel, including the toiletry products displayed in the bathrooms.   She would make a star of approval on her list next to brands like Molton Brown, Byredo, and Aesop Resurrection Aromatique.

THE LITTLE THINGS

Here are other small and seemingly inconsequential items we critique during our yacht inspections.

First, floral arrangements.  Not so much the fact that flowers are displayed, but rather when they are displayed.  We always inquire from the crew if fresh flowers are put out on the morning of the last day of the charter.  This one simple act can have a positive impact on the charter guests, as they feel their last day on board is as fresh and inviting as their first day.

Second, bed sheets and thread count.  Affluent travelers appreciate an experience that mirrors their lifestyle.  The quality of linens, including bed sheets, towels in the ensuites, cloth napkins on the dinner table, etc. must reflect both the yacht’s upscale aesthetic and that of the charterer guests.

LASTLY

Third, personal hygiene.  Many of our charter clients enjoy lifestyles that includes the services of personal attendants. For instance, chefs, maids, butlers, and personal assistants.   These supernumeraries are well-dressed and well-groomed.  Their demeanor and appearance is a reflection of their employers.   When client are onboard, the yacht’s crew assumes some of these roles, especially in terms of waitstaff.  Jana will often discretely look at the fingernails of the deckhands and the stewardesses.  This is to see if their nails are neatly trimmed and manicured.  We also take note of the crew’s uniforms.  Are they new?  Clean?  Ironed and pressed?

Photograph of Jana Sheeder on the dock at a superyacht show. She is looking toward the left side of the photograph. There is a large white yacht behind her.

THE WHOLE VERSUS THE SUM

Many luxury yacht charter vessels have similar layouts and amenities.  Taking a holistic approach to small details has helped Jana and her team focus on continually striving for perfection.  Jana Sheeder realizes attention to details can mean the difference between a good vacation and a truly memorable superyacht experience.

ALL ABOUT ULYSSES

The black hull and cool beige superstructure of 183 foot Benetti superyacht is striking.  Her size imposes, but she is inviting in layout and amenities.  Indeed, her exterior is modern and unique in design.  Her Stefano Natucci interior is majestic.  The yacht features classical decorations. The Top Five Boat Names For 2017

Posted on

a page of names of boats written in fun fonts and colors

THE STORY

I saw an article last week about the top baby names for 2017. The story read.  “…if you’re searching for a baby name in 2017, you’ve got a big, exciting decision to make.”  Additionally, it continues, “whether you’re after something that’s trendy or traditional, it can be challenging to wade through the thousands of possible names for your future baby.

I thought to myself, “What about boat names?”  Proud new owners of private luxury yacht charter vessels are in mind!   Undoubtedly, they experience similar excitement in deciding what to name his or her new floating darlings.

Yes!  the Boat Owners Association of the United States (BoatUS), recently released something. It is their annual list of the Top Five Boat Names for 2017.  Important to note, they actually list the top ten, but who cares about any top list after the first few winners. (winking emoji)

Unquestionably, each yacht name reveals a little bit about the personality of the yacht’s owner.  So, from trendy to traditional, here is this year’s Top Five list of names.

THE LIST

  1. SERENITY – if ever a name captured the essence if a private yacht charter vacation, this is it.  Calm…quietude…ahhh…

Note – there are soooo many luxury yacht charter vessels with this name, we can barely keep them straight!  Four of them are currently listed on our site, including the popular Greek yacht charter catamaran SERENITY,  and we have NINE yachts with this name in our charter database!

  1. SEAS THE DAY – cute play on words for the famous Latin phrase, “Carpe diem.”

  1. ANDIAMO – this perennial favorite name means, “Let’s Go” in Italian.

  1. IRISH WAKE – I think we all know stories about the joy and celebration the Irish are said to have after the death of a beloved friend or family member.  Need to focus on the idea of a wake and a possibly Irish owner.  Still, this one creeps me out a little bit for a boat’s name…
    1. FREEDOM – bold, powerful, and patriotic.  Common charter vessel name, including the 120 foot Virgin Island yacht charter motor yacht FREEDOM, and the massive 23 foot Benetti yacht charter vessel that shares the same name (ex motor yacht REVERIE)

Do you have a favorite boat name, perhaps for your own boat, or a luxury yacht charter vessel you saw at sea?  Share that name with us, and if there’s a short story about the name, we would love to hear it!  Email us your cute boat name at info@1800yachtcharters.com!

Unique Name/Look Helps Benetti Yacht 11-11 [Video] Stand Out

Posted on

GO AHEAD AND ASK…

Hardly a week goes by that someone doesn’t ask us one of two common questions about charter yacht 11-11:

What does the name mean?

or…

Why is the bow flat?

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

As to the first question, the name has a dual meaning.  Primarily, motor yacht 11-11 is named for the birthday of the yacht owner’s daughter.  The secondary meaning relates to numerology, where some believe that events linked to the time 11:11 appear more often than can be explained by chance or coincidence.  With some New Age philosophers assigning mystical powers to the numbers, seeing 11:11 pop up on a clock has morphed into a whimsical moment to simply, “make a wish.”

BOW DOWN!

Explaining the reason for the yacht’s unique bow is quite pedestrian and far less ethereal.  It is simply a matter of physics.  Measuring 63-meters,  Benetti yacht 11-11 is part of the Italian manufacturer’s  custom line of superyachts.  The distinctive plumb bow, also referred to as an axe bow, was added for hydrodynamic efficiency.  In laymen’s terms,  the vertical bow avoids upward push from waves when the yacht is underway.  By keeping the bow down, this result is a surprisingly stable ride, as compared to yachts with traditional, angled bows…

The award-wining yacht (she took home top honors at the 2016 World Superyacht Awards as Best Displacement motor yacht of 500 GT to 1,299 GT) with the cute name and unique look, accommodates up to 12 private luxury yacht charter guests.  Her layout boasts not one, but two owner suites – a full beam cabin on the main deck, as well as a second on the upper deck.
