In February we added the brand new 33 meter catamaran yacht QUARANTA to our website, in anticipation of her launch and christening.
We are proud to report motor yacht QUARANTA, the largest carbon hybrid composite power catamaran in the world, was successfully launched in February.
At 3.30am, the Turkish-built superyacht was pulled from her Tuzla shipyard shed on to the public road by a huge trailer. From there, she was towed 3 kilometers to the RMK shipyard for launching.
The following day, on Sunday morning at 10:45am, the yacht was officially christened and launched.
The vessel features a flexible layout. Six double cabins offer room for 12 guests, and be converted into three VIP suites, six twins, doubles, or any combination thereof. All guest cabins are located on the main deck and fitted with large windows.
Interior and exterior styling was provided by UK’s Lila Lou Studios, with Incat Crowther serving as the naval architects.
With four decks and a nine (9) meter beam, the catamaran provides nearly 50 per cent more space than a comparable 30 meter monohull.

LYANA is now named SWAN. (Click to access her profile and to book this gorgeous Benetti!)
Entering her third season in the Mediterranean, motor yacht SWAN looks as fresh and inviting as the day she launched.
The Benetti yacht charter vessel is the epitome of elegance. Someone effectively blended contemporary style with classic touches.
Sixty meter SWAN and her crew are now seasoned veterans. They are ready to deliver a highly satisfying summer charter. This yacht is capable of cruising at 14 knots. She shares Western Mediterranean. Her itinerary includes destinations such as the Amalfi Coast, Corsica, Sardinia, Monaco, St Tropez and the Côte d’Azur.
Let’s take a closer look at M/Y SWAN. Interior by Paris-based Pierre-Yves Rochon design. It offers classic shapes, set in a color scheme of beige and crème for furnishing and upholstery. Everything is framed by dark lacquered wood for cabinets and joinery. Uniquely, a collection of fine artwork by Botero, Dali, and others spreads throughout the interior.
One charter guest described this area as, “Tasteful, with an overall calm and hospitable feel.”
A central spiral staircase connects all interior decks. Adjacent to this central area is the owner’s office which serves as the entrypoint to the master suite. Lavishly spacious, this room has the look and feel of a fully-equipped spa. The massive bathroom features a rainforest shower area with hydro-therapy jets. The stateroom itself is bathed in natural light via a circular central skylight, and a semicircular array of windows that turn this room into a luxurious private observation lounge with panoramic views beyond the yacht’s bow.
Motor yacht SWAN can accommodate up to twelve guests, with additional staterooms found on the upper and lower decks. Located on the lower deck, two doubles and two twins can be found, all adjacent to the central staircase. Each cabin has sumptuous ensuite bathrooms.
On the upper deck, a VIP suite doubles as both an extra stateroom as well as a massage and wellness area. A licensed masseuse is onboard and at the guests’ disposal.
The aft section of the upper deck features an open-air saloon where a bar, games table, and multiple seating arrangements can be found. Although this may be true, the large space allows for both intimate dinner parties as well as elegant cocktail parties.
Charter rates from €320,000 per week.

To the delight of Lurssen yacht charter fans everywhere, the owner of motor yacht MARTHA ANN has agreed to position the 70 meter superyacht in the Adriatic as of 1 June 2013. At this writing, the yacht will return to the Western Mediterranean for a booking in mid-July.
Rarely do the world’s largest yachts venture from the standard and uber-popular Western Med cruising grounds such as the Amalfi Coast and the south of France.
Lürssen yacht MARTHA ANN is maintained to a high standard inside and out. Many recent upgrades include the purchase of 2 new SeaDoo GTX 260’s and the addition of a 44 foot / 13.41 meter Nautica towed tender.
According to Jana Sheeder, President of 1-800 Yacht Charters and SailAway Yacht Charter Consultants, she is a special superyacht.
“With her massive beam of nearly 13 meters, she boasts extraordinary volumes for a yacht of this length. With 7 wet bars and a beautiful glass elevator that services all 5 decks, this is the ideal entertainment yacht for a Mediterranean yacht charter in the summer or a Caribbean yacht charter in St. Barts to celebrate New Year’s Eve.“
Motoryacht MARTHA ANN offers accommodations for 12 guests in 7 staterooms. Her weekly rate is Euro €600,000 per week, plus running expenses. “Spanish IVA (VAT) remains at 21% – nearly double the typical fees found in other EU countries,” states Jana Sheeder, President of SailAway Yacht Charters and 1-800 Yacht Charters. Sheeder adds, “A myriad of permits and registration requirements makes it difficult for charter vessels to commit to cruising in Spain.Without Spanish registration, these yachts cannot begin and end a charter within Spanish waters. So the combination of administrative burdens and high IVA keeps most charter yachts out of Spain.”
Sheeder explains, “The tax has not been eliminated. The Ministry was careful to use the words, ‘Ceased to be applied.’ While we expect the Spanish Parliament to vote in favor of the Ministry’s position on the matriculation tax, there is no guarantee that a future administration won’t vote to reinstate it.”

Earlier this month, we blogged about the 70-meter motor yacht SHERAKHAN, an expedition yacht charter vessel making her way to the Antarctic.
We received an update today from Sioned Williams, one of the yacht owner’s assistants:
“Heading ever further south, with temperatures dropping and the number of icebergs sighted increasing daily, SHERAKHAN arrived in Grytviken yesterday. Having been cleared in by customs, and all on board received the South Georgia stamp in their passports, the guests and crew visited the local museum in Grytviken where they met all the locals – all 20 of them!”
While in South Georgia, the charter guests and crew were treated to what Williams described as, “…having witnessed the awesome sight of a colony of around half a million King Penguins and thousands of fur seals on the beach.”
Next stop on the itinerary – the superyacht is now cruising towards St. Andrew’s Bay, making way towards the Antarctic Sounds.
Motor yacht Sherakhan offers accommodations for up to 26 passengers in thirteen staterooms. She is available from March 1, in Ushuaia or the Falklands. Panama yacht charter and Costa Rica yacht charter vacations are also available beginning in late March, as the vessel heads north to the Caribbean.
While many yacht owners are content to offer their yachts for hire in the tried-and-true winter cruising ground of the Caribbean, Jan Verkerk is always looking for new destinations in the hopes of enticing potential charter customers to explore land and sea far from the beaten path.
This year, Jan has committed his 70 meter expedition-style yacht, M/Y SHERAKHAN to Antarctica.
Earlier this week, we received an email from the yacht’s manager: “Motor yacht SHERAKHAN has just crossed the equator on her way to Antarctica! (She) will arrive in the Falkland Islands on the 6th of February to start her Antarctica adventure.”
One of the largest yachts available for rent, the 70 meter SHERAKHAN offers accommodations for up to 26 passengers in thirteen staterooms.
If Antarctica is too remote, Jan is open to accepting trips along the east or west coast of South America, or Panama, or even head back to the ever-popular islands of St Barts and St Martin to accept a traditional Caribbean yacht charter booking.
Her rates begin at €350,000 EUROS per week, plus expenses.

It’s hard to beat the outright indulgence of a Virgin Islands crewed yacht charter – every detail is managed by a trained crew, from operating the yacht, to preparing your customized meals, to keeping the vessel tidy and shipshape.
But what about those times you feel the need to escape – to be alone with loved ones – a chance to trade polite intrusiveness with no-frills quality family time?
Families who routinely enjoy luxury yacht charter vacations with a full-crew compliment can now opt to go boating in total privacy, onboard a bareboat yacht charter.
The concept is simple – just as you would rent a car to drive yourself, with some basic training, you can rent a bareboat and take the helm yourself!
A, “bareboat” is just as the name sounds – a boat with just the bare essentials onboard. It comes to you with no food, no beverages, and most noticeably, no crew. You do your own cooking and cleaning, and you operate and sail the yacht, yourself.
Fleets of bareboats can be found in nearly every location you would expect to find a fully-crewed yacht charter vessel. Virgin Islands bareboat vacations are perhaps the most common, with hundreds of boats available for rent in both St. Thomas, USVI, and Tortola, BVI.
Other top-rated destinations include Bahamas bareboat vacations in the Abaco island chain, and Florida yacht charter holidays, primarily in the Florida Keys.
Both sail yachts and motor yachts can be rented, with room for 2 to 8 passengers. A small handful of bareboat catamaran yachts can even accommodate up to 10 passengers.
Companies such as 1-800-BAREBOAT, the Moorings, and Sunsail specialize in arranging self-skippered charters in destinations around the world; for example, Bahamas, Florida Keys, Greece, Corsica, Sardinia, France, Cote d’azur, Tortola, Tortolla, St. Thomas, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Tonga, Miami and South Florida.
Customers can choose from a global network of monohull sailboats with brands like Beneteau, Sun Odyssey, Dufour, or Jeanneau – and multihull catamarans with brands like Fountaine Pajot, Lagoon, and Sunreef.
Basic rental prices tend to be less much expensive than those of luxury crewed yacht charter vessels, but customers need to remember they are responsible to purchase and prepare their own meals. The cost to provision the yacht must be considered when comparing this bare bones charter option to the price of a crewed yacht.
Another important factor – the customer’s qualification to operate a boat.
Just as it takes skill and normally a license to operate a motor vehicle, similar rules apply to bareboats. While formal licenses are not usually necessary, a solid level of competency is necessary. The ability to read basic charts, navigate, and to set the anchor are the most important skills required to rent a bareboat.
Luckily, these skills can easily be mastered, either through formal boating courses, or simply by garnering casual boating experience with your own boat or the boat of a friend or neighbor.
Popular ideas for bareboat yacht charter vacations are anniversary celebrations, family reunions (with boats sailing in tandem), couples getaways, and snorkeling adventures.
So before you plan your next tropical odyssey, give some thought and compare bareboat vacations to crewed charters – one of them will surely be the right choice for you, your family, and friends!
Ready to become the master of your destiny, or at least your sailing journey? Taking the helm as the skipper of your own bareboat yacht charter is truly a rewarding experience for anyone who wants the challenge of guiding your own vessel in the world’s most exotic island destinations.
