“I’m looking forward to my first St. Martin yacht charter vacation, and my travel companions and I are having a Caribbean themed party to get super psyched about our trip. Any suggestions for traditional island cocktails to put us in the proper frame of mind?”
Angel A., Miami
Now that’s the spirit, Angel! What a fantastic idea to get pumped about your Caribbean escape.
We’re not too embarrassed to admit enjoying a libation or two (or three) during our own yachting excursions in the islands. Local specialties can be found throughout the Caribbean, but we’ve narrowed down the choices to our fav five (in no particular order).
As you sip these drinks, keep in mind you can heighten your experience by throwing on a pair of flip-flops, hiding behind a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses, and swaying to a little “Havana Daydreamin” with Jimmy Buffet.
Smooth sailing, Angel…
Mojito – Cuba yacht charter
Some things are quintessential Cuban – hand-made cigars, guayabera linen shirts, and minty Mojitos. The history of Cuba’s signature drink dates back to the 16th century, when Sir Francis Drake and his comrades drank a mixture of crushed mint leaves, lime and unrefined rum. Locals say Hemingway drank them at Le Bodeguita del Medio in Havana, and James Bond enjoyed one in 2002’s Die Another Day.
Painkiller – British Virgin Islands yacht charter
Made with Pusser’s Rum, The Painkiller cocktail originated at the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke island in the BVIs. The drink was once made with a secret rum recipe by Daphne Henderson, the owner of the Soggy Dollar. Charles Tobias, the founder of the Pusser’s rum distillery, persuaded Henderson to share her recipe. We’re glad she did, as Painkiller cocktails are now readily available throughout the Caribbean.
Ti Punch – Martinique yacht charter
More an aperitif than cocktail, this simple mix of white rum, cane sugar and lime is usually served straight and is popular in all of the French Caribbean islands – Martinique, Guadeloupe, and the French side of St. Martin. Easy to make, it’s usually served “to taste” – drinkers are presented with a glass of rum, a lime, and some syrup to make it up as they wish.
We know what you’re thinking – we promised five killer cocktails but only named three. You caught us!
Submit our contact form (here) requesting the other 2 great drinks, and we’ll send you the names AND the recipes to make all 5 of our favorite island-themed Caribbean yacht charter cocktails. Look forward to hearing from you and sharing some cocktails!

Informa’s British-based global exhibition division has acquired Yachting Promotions Inc. (d/b/a Show Management), the producers of three of the world’s largest in-water boat shows – the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Yachts Miami Beach, and the Palm Beach International Boat Show. Yachting Promotions Inc. is wholly owned by Active Interest Media, a magazine publishing company with co-headquarters in El Segundo, CA and Boulder, CO, USA
Informa paid $133 million to secure Yachting Promotions Inc. (YPI) from Active Interest Media.
Founded in 1976, Show Management has produced the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show at the Bahia Mar Yachting Center since inception. The company went on to become the producers of the Palm Beach International Boat Show and the Miami yacht and Brokerage Show, recently renamed Yachts Miami Beach, as well as the St. Petersburg Power and Sailboat Show and Suncoast Boat Show in Sarasota.
In 2006, Active Interest Media (AIM) purchased Show Management (formally renamed Yachting Promotions, Inc.).
According to a prepared statement by Andrew Clurman, AIM’s president and CEO, the sale of Show Management to Informa is part of the company’s long-term strategic plan to accelerate our growth:
“AIM will reinvest the proceeds from this sale to grow our digital video, online education, marketing services, and events in our other verticals.”
For its part, Informa’s acquisition of Show Management is in line with the company’s plans to expand its global exhibitions business in the U.S.A. Already the producers of the Monaco Yacht Show, the acquisition makes Informa Exhibitions the world’s leading yacht show organizer. It will be interesting to see the changes (if any) made to these yacht shows with the new purchase. Will the yacht shows now have red carpets, a la the Dubai International Yacht Show (DIBS)?
Our company president, Jana Sheeder, recently attended the 2017 edition of Yachts Miami Beach, where she and our 1-800 Yacht Charter team inspected several private luxury yacht charter vessels, including Lurssen motor yacht MARTHA ANN, James Bond yacht SKYFALL, and the brand new Benetti motor yacht 11.11. We asked Jana to comment on the acquisition of Show Management by Informa:
“Informa operates over 200 trade and consumer exhibitions around the world annually. With their global resources, I believe Informa is positioned to focus on the continued growth and success of the world’s finest boat shows. In terms of exposure of charter yachts to prospective clients, this should be a good opportunity for cross promotion; for example, we should be able to promote a winter/spring Florida yacht charter vacation to a client while a particular yacht is here in Miami at Yachts Miami Beach – then bring that client to Monte Carlo in September and host them on the same yacht during the Monaco Yacht Show. I’m excited by the chance to extend customer relationships across multi-show platforms and destinations.”

Anyone who reads our blog on a regular basis knows we love our gadgets. Let’s face it, going on a Virgin Islands yacht charter is loads of fun, but getting there can be tedious. Waiting for flights, standing at the luggage carrousel, taking long taxi rides, etc. can be long and boring. Having a cool new gadget on hand is a great way to kill some time – and have some fun.
The world’s largest trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances, the IFA just wrapped up in Berlin. Here are our three favorite new gadgets for 2012 from the show:
1. Samsung Galaxy Note
If you’ve been waiting for a smartphone with a big screen, this is your phone! The Samsung Galaxy Note offers a 5.3 inch display, the largest screen size available among smartphones. This means less scrolling and screen transitions. Imagine viewing web pages, news apps, and e-books with minimal scrolling or zooming – how cool is that? The device also utilizes “pen-input technology,” and comes with an S Pen that allows users to draw and send handwritten images and notes via text message, email, and instant messaging.
2. LG Smartscan Mouse
As luxury yacht charter brokers, we’re constantly scanning client documents – from bareboat charter contracts to food and beverage preference sheets. Scanning saves our clients’ time and allows us to share their information with yacht crews around the globe. The latest mouse from LG has a built-in scanner, which the company says will “open a new era for scanners.” Simply click the Smart Scan button on the left side of the mouse, then swipe it over the material to be scanned.
The scanned image can then be saved in a variety of file types, or dragged and dropped into a document or application. LG’s Optical Character Recognition technology converts scanned text into a Microsoft Word document that can then be edited as required. The 2-in-1 device can scan page sizes up to A3, which is larger than most conventional portable scanners.
3. Sony Cyber-shot DSC TX55 – The World’s Slimmest Digital Camera
Imagine going on a Croatia yacht charter and not having a camera with you. Who will believe you when you say you saw a whale swimming by an island with a Medieval castle? Most digital cameras are small, but bulky and heavy in your pocket. Not the Cybershot TX55. Just 12.2mm slim, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC TX55 is the world’s thinnest camera. It can capture 16.2 megapixel still images as well as full HD video.
The camera’s back panel has an 8.3cm/3.3 inch touch-screen for showing off photos and movie clips. It also features 3D shooting options. By pressing the shutter button once, the camera will grab a pair of frames in fast succession, estimating depth to create a 3D still image. This is a MUST for a bareboat yacht charter in the Caribbean or Mediterranean, also!

John Staluppi, the luxury yacht charter world’s archetypical yacht owner is at it again. Driven by imagination and pride, Staluppi has taken possession of his 16th megayacht.
Launched on Saturday 26th November 2011 at the state-of-the-art Benetti shipyard in Livorno, Italy the 60 meter Benetti FB253 is the boat’s official identification, but like so many of his earlier yachts, the vessel has been christened to honor another James Bond classic novel and film – motor yacht DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER.
Based on the shipyard’s famed naval architecture and engineering, the elegant external line of the new Benetti FB253 M/Y (Motoryacht) DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER is characterized by compact forms and dynamic slender lines. This balanced combination of traditional design elements and modern innovative stylistic solutions has become the benchmark of Benetti’s distinguishing mark throughout the world.
Long a fan of the James Bond 007 saga, Staluppi’s earlier creations included the aptly named motor yacht OCTOPUSSY, motoryacht MOONRAKER, motor yacht THUNDERBALL, M/Y THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, and the popular Bahama yacht charters mega yacht CASINO ROYALE, a fixture at the posh Atlantis Resort and Marina on Paradise Island.
Although M/Y CASINO ROYALE and his latest effort M/Y DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER were built for true luxury at sea, Staluppi’s earlier James Bond boat creations were built with a singular focus – SPEED. Setting records as some of the fastest superyachts in the world, it was the 43.5 meter motor yacht OCTOPUSSY which broke the 50-knot speed barrier 20 years ago and brought the name of New York-born John Staluppi to the attention of yacht aficionados.
With a background that is now well-known, the self-made millionaire left school when he was 16 and worked as a mechanic in Brooklyn before going on to develop one of the most successful car dealerships in North America — a business that enabled him to indulge his passion for racing fast boats, and then later for building megayachts.
While many charter yacht owners prefer to remain anonymous, Staluppi’s vision and passion bring fervor and excitement to a very conservative industry. After all, there aren’t many yachts aboard which guests are greeted by frosted-glass panels delicately etched with the silhouettes of Bond girls!
The customized, whimsical James Bond boat themes are a refreshing breath of fresh air in an industry of white, cookie-cutter production boats. Let’s hope Staluppi doesn’t run out of 007 movie titles, or his passion, any time soon.
Live the adventure – come explore an exotic destination on a James Bond boat.

Thanks to The Robb Report and writer, Viju Mathew for sharing this unique luxury yacht.
<< The beauty behind Sander Sinot’s 590-foot Symmetry yacht concept is its sophisticated sense of balance. The Netherlands–based founder of Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design named the bespoke behemoth after its symmetrical hull and stern, allowing for equal maneuverability in both directions. The design duality carries over into the lavish living spaces, where interior and exterior boundaries become exquisitely blurred.
The dedicated owner’s deck, for example, will feature a stateroom that can be opened up to flow onto its private outdoor lounge and infinity pool. And on the Beach Deck, a floating lounge with a seawater pool will be able to extend out across the ocean. In all, Symmetry will provide over 10,700 square feet of usable exterior deck space, including a glass-bottom pool on the Guest Deck and another 56-foot-long pool on the Hotel Deck.
Inside, the yacht’s six decks of indulgence house a spa, a garden, a gym, and a selection of dining and bar venues. For young ones, a theater and playroom provide distraction on the Lower Deck. Aquatic amenities will include two 33-foot tenders, a 46-foot day boat, and six personal watercraft.
Accommodations for up to 34 guests comprise four en suite VIP rooms—each with a personal lounge and balcony—and 12 cabins. Within the owner’s inner sanctum is a private spa, an office, a library, and a skylounge.
Environmentally balanced as well, the steel-hulled yacht will benefit from an electric Azipod propulsion system—making possible a top speed of 20 knots—controlled from twin navigation stations on the Wheelhouse Deck. Sinot introduced Symmetry at the Monaco Yacht Show last month and is ready to take the helm on its construction if a buyer—or Bond villain—commissions it. (sinot.com) >>
There will always be a Bond film that’s ready for her!
We hope that a buyer commissions this high-caliber, impressive yacht and enters her in the superyacht charter industry in the future.

The motoryacht is designed to cruise above 20 knots, with a top end of nearly 30 knots. The vessel can be operated using just the jet skis for a 100-horsepower emission-free cruise. At high speeds, the diesel engines will kick in as well as recharge the jet skis’ batteries.
Twelve passengers can move about comfortably on the deck, designed to feel like a lounge. A tinted glass panel above will shield passengers from the wind and sun.
Alas, don’t expect to see this vessel pop up anytime soon in the Mediterranean yacht charter market. Audi has not announced any plans to move the multi-hulled motoryacht beyond the concept phase. Still, innovative designs like this bode well for the future of the yachting industry and talented young designers like Stefanie Behringer.
Recently, we told our readers that Hollywood icon Steven Spielberg had put his spectacular Monaco yacht charter vessel up for sale. The Spielberg yacht SEVEN SEAS is scheduled to be replaced with an even larger vessel.
In a, “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” kind of way, we thought it would be fun to look at an interesting tie-in between Spielberg and the James Bond movie franchise. After all, it is obvious Spielberg loves yachts, and most of us are familiar with the correlation of James Bond and fast, luxurious yachts. In fact, there are several yachts named in honor of Bond films and currently available for private yacht charter – yachts like OCTOPUSSY and CASINO ROYALE.
So, back to the tie-in between Spielberg and Bond:
Did you know that Steven Spielberg Was Twice Rejected to Direct a James Bond Film??!!!
Yep, it’s true.
Spielberg has made no secret of his affinity for the Bond film franchise, and his desire to direct a Bond movie.
It turns out that he had two opportunities to pitch longtime Bond producer Albert R. Broccoli. On both occasions, Broccoli said NO.
According to Broccoli’s daughter, Barbara (who took over the production reigns after her father’s death), a young, relatively unknown Spielberg made his first directorial pitch to her father early in his career. Broccoli was impressed by the young director’s passion, but felt he lack the experience to helm a major title like Bond.
Barbara said her father told Spielberg, “Kid, ya gotta get some more films under your belt.”
After Spielberg released one of his best-reviewed films, ‘Schindler’s List,’ he sent a letter to Broccoli asking again if he could direct a Bond movie. Barbara says her father once again turned down Spielberg, this time saying, “Now I can’t afford you!”
It’s safe to say things turned out ok for Mr. Spielberg. He’s directed over a dozen blockbuster films, and when not in use by Academy Award-winning director and his family, his yacht SEVEN SEAS is available for hire in the Mediterranean at a price of $1.2 million per week…

It was always fun to watch the famous space cartoon, The Jetsons, and imagine what it would be like in the future — transporting in rapidly moving little flying vehicles, getting ready in the morning by hopping on a conveyor belt and being automatically coiffed and dressed, and racing around wearing rocket-powered backpacks.
If you think about it, some of those wild cartoonish theories are seemingly becoming realities!
Flying cars DO now exist, although they are not yet mass produced.
Conveyor belts DO now exist, although they have not been perfected to prepare us in the mornings.
…and jetpacks DO now exist, although they were first seen in James Bond 007 movies as gadgets…and they now appear on Mediterranean yacht charter superyachts as the latest and greatest watersports toy!
The future I dreamed of as a child is finally here!
Excuse me, but I have to go feed my dog, Astro…
